...and a happy New Year! 12/30/2010

Patti - I would assume that it is warmer than Canada?

Definitely, and the sunshine is wonderful. Winds are high tonight. My daughter went out for a walk, and said it was a little scary outside. The winds will be bringing in the colder weather.

Here it is... watch our kids find out on Christmas morning!

That was fabulous! I love seeing the enthusiasm of litle kids! :thumbsup2

My kids are teenagers, and they've known about the cruise since May, but even they have been dancing around they house singing "Only 3 days, only 3 more days..." :woohoo:

I think there are going to be a lot of happy kids on the Wonder very soon!

I've been checking the forecast obsessively for here and Chicago, since they had been predicting a massive storm front midweek. Thankfully, now it is looking like temps will be around 32-34, so they are thinking it will likely just be rain, rather than snow/freezing rain (still saying prayers, but feeling a BIT better.)

However, I've also been looking at the FL 5-day forecast, and weatherchannel.com is saying 65 and partly sunny for our sailaway day on Thursday. Are you hearing something different? From where we are sitting in Iowa right now (wind chill of 4 and a drift waist-high in the driveway waiting for me to shovel out), 65 sounds YUMMY!

They are predicting a Storm to blow into the Desert Southwest on Thursday and there could be snow here on Friday or Saturday. While we don't see snow that often, will be glad to be on the cruise!

Niky - Hoping you don't have to deal with Travel issues.

Put in those terms, Florida is much warmer, and the cruise will be even warmer. I got confused for a second. I equated your 4F to 4C(or 40F) and thought, that is not too bad for IOWA.

Were we are staying in Florida will have a high of 52 today, but very windy and it has started to rain. Tuesday AM will be the chilliest around 35. As the week goes on the temperatures go up. We are monitoring the temperatures because the family we are with are in a soccer tournament starting Monday AM. I did not bring clothes to watch a soccer game in the 40's. They are from NC and are not accustomed to playing in the 30's. Well we are having fun otherwise. Eleven people in a 2 bedroom home - you gotta have fun, otherwise you would go crazy.

Thinking of you all and wishing safe travels. Guess Terri is on her way since she has not been on line.

Hi all, we made it to sunny FL just in time to bring in the cold front! We decided to drive down X-mas morning at 5AM so Merry belated X-mas to everyone! It is so cold down here we have jackets on and everything. I was hopeing to get to the port early so the kids could swim on the ship right away, but at 65 degrees it might be to cold for even the kids to get in. I'm at my Aunts house now but her internet is slow so if I don't get a chance to log on again I'll see you at the meet on the ship. Have safe travels everyone.

Yes, my kids are still somewhere up on the ceiling with excitement! My son, the one who was crying, still asks every few hours, "Are we REALLY going?" My daughter has planned out the entire 7 days of what she wants to do. DS18 hopefully has everything together. Almost finished packing. That's good since we leave tomorrow. :scared1:
I hope we bring some warm weather with us! We'll see what we can do! See y'all Thursday!!

Kathy,
Would you mind updating us in the 2nd thread for the FE please? We will now be in Cabin #6006. Once we found out DS18 was put in a deluxe oceanview, we decided to bump him down to our original inside #2603. :rolleyes1

Those of you with the older kids/young adults....is there a group for 18yr olds? I thought I remembered seeing something about a singles meet for that age group? He is worried about bothering us by tagging along with my husband and me. He won't of course!

We had a dry run last night after the kids were asleep. We put all our suitcases, etc. in the van and rearranged until we were sure everything would fit. I'm sure we looked odd throwing around empty suitcases at midnight!

We leave in exactly 141 hours for our long drive!!:banana::banana:
Can't wait!!

Just to let you know I am 20 and have been doing the college stuff for the past few years. They always have a meet and greet (very informal, no name games or anything) on the first night of the cruise either in Diversions or Outlook Cafe. It will be listed on the Navigator. Then on the sea days they usually have a lunch around 12:30 in Parrot Cay for everyone, and some other activities scheduled throughout the cruise. I have met a lot of people this way and had some really fun times.

I just got a text from one of my friends about an hour north of Orlando where I go to school. It sounds like they just got some snow. BRRRRRR. I can't wait for those warm Caribbean islands. :cool1:

Thanks Maniac!:lmao: I will reassure DS18 that he won't have to hang out with dear old parents! In fact, we probably won't see much of him!

Snow in Florida... Yikes. Tuesday Morning is suppose to be cold there! Not planning on Swimming in Florida, but wait until we get into the warmer waters.

Well we are Packed! :cool1: Let me just say that I spent the day yesterday packing. I was determined not to overpack, but I did. DH and DD might be short changed, but I will have it all :rotfl2: (Not really). DH layes out his own clothes. DD8 wanted her own suitcase will all her clothes, but I pack where each suitcase has a little of each. Plus I put all the "Formal" clothes in one, so that is lost we all in our other clothes.

We are finishing up a few things around the house and then heading up to Phoenix for the night before flying out tomorrow.

Paking a few things in for everyone in each suitcase is a wise thing to do. A few yers ago we were flying to LA for DCL cruise. Delta never put one bag on our flight, we got to LA, found the bag missing, they put it on the next flight which arrived in LA an hour after the cruise left. We got our bag two days later at the first port. We had underwear, socks, clothes, and most matched. Had no toiletries, but bought those on the ship. Alex

The weather channel web site has these temps:

Port Canaveral- Thurs. 69/56 sunny

St Martin- Sun. 81/71 partly cloudy

St Thomas- Mon. 77/70 partly cloudy

Castaway Cay Wed. 76/65 partly cloudy

Port Canaveral- Thur. 74/52 sunny

Both our airports for tomorrow's flights home are snowy, but no other flight options can get us all together. So we are hoping for the best so we can pack and turn around and fly to FL! :)

The weather channel web site has these temps:

Port Canaveral- Thurs. 69/56 sunny

St Thomas- Sun. 76/69 30% chance rain

St Martin- Mon. 81/72 Chance PM showers

Port Canaveral- Thur 74/52 sunny

I was noticing these temps on the weather sites too. I was actually hoping for a bit warmer (mid 80s would be heavenly). Iowa is supposed to get into the upper 40s in the next couple of days--practically a heatwave for this time of year!
Keeping my fingers crossed for no rain on the islands too! :)

Does anyone know if we have formal and semi-formal nights? In the past, was New Years Eve a formal night? Carolyn is getting clothes together and I could not answer these questions. Alex

Hi Alex,

We are on the 12/29 cruise on the Magic. They told us that New Years Eve is formal night for us. Hope this helps. See you on the Dream's Maiden Voyage.

Last year's 7 day Western NYE cruise had a formal night, semi formal night and NYE dress was not specific formal, but many people dressed formal. Hope that helps.

Uggggg, packing! I really thought we were being frugal in what were were packing, but we still ended up with 2 big suitcases that we'll have to pay to check, and one smaller rolling bag as a carry-on for each of us! 5 suitcases total! And I don't know what to take out to lighten the load, plus now I'm looking at the weather and all of our ports look cooler than I was expecting, so I'm wondering if I need to add more warm clothes? :confused3

From what I understand from the crew, the second night (New Year's Eve) will be formal night, and the second to last night (3rd day at sea) will be Captain's Gala menu and semi-formal night.
