Anaheim to San Diego Amtrak question

Does anyone know how popular this route is? I'm trying to decide if I should buy business class seats for the 4 of us to have a reserved seat, or if we'll be okay with the unreserved seats. We're traveling in Early November and its me, 2 young children and my partially handicapped mother.

I have been asking people in my area the same question. I finally found someone who rode it in the summer. They said business class was not necessary. There was plenty of room on the train. You just move to the next car if there aren't enough seats. I forgot to ask them what time of day they rode it though.

We took Amtrak from San Diego to Anaheim at the beginning of October last year. If I hadn't booked business class we would have been standing the whole trip. I think it was well worth the extra few dollars to ensure that we had seats for the trip.

I ended up finding a cheaper car (minivan) rental picking up in DTD and dropping off in San Diego. The van is cheaper than the rental I had for a car picked up and dropped off in San Diego, before even counting the cost of the Amtrak tickets, so I'm saving over $100 this way.
