Anaheim Timeshares?

Some see the expiration as a positive. While a timeshare can be passed on, some see it as a white elephant if they really don't want it.

I'm wondering what happens if a timeshare is listed in someone's will, but nobody accepts it. Is it forced? The biggest issue is that it is an obligation as a part owner. I know there's unclaimed real property all the time because those named in a will don't want to be responsible for upkeep and property taxes.

Well barring any unforseen deaths our plan is to ask the kids if they want it, if they do then fine, we will sign it over to them with their understanding that they have to pay the fees attached. If they don't we will offer it to nieces and nephews and other family/friends, if no one wants it then we will donate it to a charity or sell it ourselves. At that point it won't be a big deal to us what it sells for. lol But yes, it can be considered a white elephant if no one wants it and I have no idea if it is forced or not.

Thanks for the clarity, that is different than I thought it worked. I do have a question about a case when you either want to sell it or give it away to someone of your choice, then what? For example, what if I want to sell the deed to my son for $1.00? or give it to him and have it transfered legally to his name? Disney can swoop in and buy it for $1.00 ? Do they have a way to transfer ownership at the owner's discretion?

I'm sure like any deed you can transfer ownership.

They still have right of first refusal on any transfer of ownership. However, if one is going to do it, they have been known to waive that right if it's clear that it's a gift and not just some transfer to some random person just to get out of paying the fees and taxes. For the most part nobody would really want to "sell for nothing" because the value of DVC memberships is generally more than traditional timeshares.

I'm not sure what happens if the membership is placed in someone's will.

We booked a 2 bedroom at Worldmark Resort for our group of six. I like it because it is close and provides plenty of space and privacy, a full kitchen and free parking. Not to mention the big heated pool and hot tubs.

We booked through 5starresortvacations.com just last week and we are paying approx $220 a night taxes included, which is comparable to some of the other places I've looked at.

Worldmark is a great location because it's so close to the Garden Walk, very easy to walk over there to grab a bite or watch a movie. :) It's about a block, maybe half a block closer then the Peacock. Good choice.

We stayed a week at the Worldmark Anaheim last Nov. I was not impressed with the room we had. Once we arrived everything looked clean and seemed fine. After a few days we started noticing rings in the toilet and in the bathtub - they obviously weren't clean. The tub is also very narrow and when you shower you hit the curtain. And, there really isn't space for soap and shampoo (it slides off the sides of the tub!). There were stains on the carpet, dust and gunk on doors and baseboards, and the oven was chipped and painted over. At the end of the week I was so glad to leave because it just felt grimy to me. Even though we didn't book a less-desirable location, they put us in a room right by the elevator. For 16,000 points and a newer resort I expected much better. We've had better experiences at the other locations we've stayed in.

Parking is free and it's on ART, route 8. We didn't mind the location and taking ART. It was nice to have the full kitchen and laundry.

We are currently at Worldmark Dolphins Cove. No complaints here. Infact we went over to the other one for a presentation on are glad we are here instead. Sure it's not new but everything is nice inside. We are in a 1 bedroom very spacious full bath and kitchen. Clean. Friendly staff. Lots of special daily extras too in rec room. Heated pool. Hot tub. Has everything we need no complaints. I love all the added charm of this complex.

I've heard similar complaints re. cleanliness, though I think it depends on the room you get and who was cleaning it because others have said it was clean. I hope we'll get a clean one!! I'll let you know.

Good to hear. We check in to a 3BR there on the 16th!

We were there a couple of weeks ago. We were pleasantly surprised too. We didn't do the presentation at the other place, but I have no interest in using that amount of credits to stay there. Not worth it when we can stay at a hotel for a decent price. I was shocked they had a continental breakfast one morning. Nothing fabulous, but we grabbed a bagel before heading to the parks. I'd definitely stay at Dolphins Cove again.

We own a week at Dolphin's Cove. We love it.
NO, it's not as fancy as some of the places, but it is spacious, secure, and very close to the parks. We stop at Target and stock up on real food and supplies and our week there is almost as comfortable as it is at home.

We have a two bedroom that has the master suite with a King bed, a second room with two twin size beds. The living room has a sofa-sleeper if we ever needed it. Full size fridge, dishwasher, stove-range, microwave, etc.

Keep your eyes on ebay, sometimes they pop up for almost nothing by brokers who are looking to get out of the annual fees for their clients.

If we go again I'm going to try to get in at Dolphin's Cove. I actually tried last time, but it was booked solid for our dates, so we went with the other one. I know DC is much harder to get into, probably WM has less units and they are less points! It's good to know it's a good resort and location. I'm okay with older, as long as things are clean!

I hope you get a clean one too! I would've complained while we were there, but I didn't want housekeeping in our room while we were at the parks (we left several expensive electronics in the room and there isn't a safe), and I didn't want to spend almost 3 hours packing everything up to move to a different room, so we dealt with it. I did complain in our survey though, so hopefully they are listening and improving. I wonder if we got the room they gave us because we tried to check in early and dh and the gal at the desk clashed. We were fine waiting and coming back, but she tried to check us in anyway and it threw dh off. Plus, she asked for our kids names and birth dates. We've never had anyone ask for that before, and we didn't give them that info - it's none of their business. They can know how many we have 18 and older, and how many under 18, but they don't need to know personal info on our kids. Maybe that's why we got the crappy room. :confused3

We are WM owners. We have stayed at Anaheim twice, 3B. It's always been nice and clean. Always been a great stay.

We just stayed at a WM in Seaside, Oregon and they also asked for everyone's names that would be in the unit. No birth date though. The birthdate thing bugs me. We pay expensive dues and it makes me feel like they're digging a little too much into our personal lives. I sure will be on notice when we go back to Anaheim in June. We will be in a 2B for the first time there.

I already hate their pushy sales people. Ugh.

Well, I'm glad ours was an exception and not the rule. I loved Seaside! We can't wait to go back! And the sales gal at Anaheim was the worst one we've dealt with so far - so pushy! Dh had to keep coming up with 'excuses' to get out of it. He did question the needing to know birth dates and their reasoning didn't even make sense (they did say it was optional information to share). Something about making sure they're our kids and not step-kids?? Seriously, people can bring whomever they want to the resort as long as they are within the occupancy limits.

Brian can you report back after your 3 bedroom stay? I'm really interested to hear how it was.

Hoping for an update...
Brian, how was your trip and your stay at the Worldmark Anaheim?

Thank you in advance :)

ETA: I just re-read part of the thread...you were staying at Dolphin's Cove? Can you update on how that was, please?
