We are contemplating another trip to DL and were wondering if anyone had any info about the Anaheim Plaza hotel. I am wondering:

-How far is the walk to the maingate (we will have 2 kids with us)
-What are the family suites like?
-Are there fridges/microwaves?
-Is it clean?
-Parking?
-Any other general impressions?

Thanks so much guys!!!!

I've stayed there a few times so I will answer your questions as best I can.

-How far is the walk to the maingate (we will have 2 kids with us)

The front desk says it's an 8 minute walk.

-What are the family suites like?

Don't know

-Are there fridges/microwaves?

Fridges, yes. Microwaves, no.

-Is it clean?

Yes.

-Parking?

I think it's $4 a day. Unlike most other hotels in the area, you can park there until 4:00pm on departure day. This can be nice if you only have a half day at the park.

-Any other general impressions?

You can't beat the price given the proximity to the parks. Most other hotels within real walking distance are roughly $30+ more per night. I think that it tries to pass itself as a whole lot nicer than it really is, but as a place to sleep while I can't be in Disneyland, it works quite well.

I've stayed there lots of times; I can help! :hippie:

The walk, from room to turnstiles, takes about 10 minutes; however, I've not done the walk with kids, so I can't advise on that. It's a nice walk, not too far, and not scary/isolated at night.

I've not stayed in a family suite, but the regular rooms with 2 beds are really big...about 1 1/2 to 2 times as big as a standard hotel room in the DLR area. So, there's plenty of room to spread out; in a standard room, I've stayed in a party of 4, and it didn't feel cramped. Another bonus is that most of the rooms have either a large balcony (big enough for a couple of adults to sit out on) or an enclosed "yard" (would be great for kids to play in...they could be outside, but you could still keep an eye on them!).

There are small refrigerators & microwaves in the rooms.

I've never had an issue with cleanliness in all the times I've stayed there. It is an older hotel (built in the 50s), but it's been well maintained & looks better than many of the hotels in the area that aren't as old. The bathrooms have been immaculately clean every time I've stayed there, which is important...no mold or roaches. The sheets and linens aren't the best, but they've always been clean, in my experience.

Parking is PLENTIFUL...even when the hotel is pretty much full in the summer, there's not a problem with parking. It was also free as of last summer.

The grounds are very nice, with mature landscaping (ie: sooooo many huge, beautiful palm trees!) that's well maintained. The pool is fabulous...it's HUGE (half-Olympic size, IIRC) and, more importantly...heated. There's also a hot tub.

Any other questions, ask away!

I agree with Spacemermaid, except when we stayed there in October there WAS a parking charge. I think it was $4 per day.

Also stayed there last October, and agree with Spacemermaid. And also agree with pixiewings, we also got charged a $4 per day parking charge.

Older motel, but the grounds were nice and it was clean. HUGE rooms for the price, but we only stayed in a regular room, not the family suite.

HTH! :thumbsup2

We've stayed there 4 times and have been satisfied with what we get for the money. It's an older establishment but in better-than-average shape for its age. In our experience, the quality of the room varies depending on which section of the hotel you're placed in. The walking distance will also vary because it's a big property so some rooms add an extra 2-3 minutes to your walk if they're farther from the street corner. The 8-10 mins people have given is a good estimate.

I think the family suite is just 2 standard rooms adjacent to each other with a door unlocked between them, but I could be wrong. I seem to recall a family suite being the same price as 2 regular rooms. I guess the advantage of booking a family suite would be that it guarantees your rooms to be next to each other.

Last time we stayed they said we could leave our car in the parking lot till midnight on the day we checked out which was a big advantage for us because we stayed almost all day that day. The staff have always been really friendly in our stays. One time we got a room without a working A/C so that was a bit of a discomfort but they moved us the next day when another room came available.

We stayed last Oct too!!

-How far is the walk to the maingate (we will have 2 kids with us)

about 10 minutes with a 2yo and 5yo (a little more dead weight at night when they were both sleeping in the sit and stand stroller, but still not that far). Close enough some of our party went back for various reasons at least once each day (changing clothes, naps, drop off stuff we bought throughout the day, etc)

-What are the family suites like?

They are 2 adjoining rooms that they open a door between with 2 beds in each room and then they offer a rolling bed for an additional fee (I think around 11-12 bucks). The picture on their reservation page is accurate for the layout.

*Our family suite did not have balconies, but apparently the bathroom configuration is nicer than the balcony rooms (at least according to my mom and sister that came on the trip last minute and stayed in a single room in another bldg). They have a nice long counter and sink that has a door separating that area from the toitlet/tub.

-Are there fridges/microwaves?

Yes, and our water bottles were frozen solid each morning :)

-Is it clean?

Yes, older feeling than the HOJO, but still clean and the maid staff were very friendly and would say hi to the kids when we would walk by in the mornings on our way to the park, etc...

-Parking?

It was 4 dollars a vehicle we had one for each side of the Family Suite (not sure if they allow more than 1 per room). The parking close to the bldgs was a little hard to come by late at night, but no problem finding spots in the day. It was nice to be able to park their the morning of check in even though our room wasn't ready and to leave the car there until the afternoon on checkout day (I am pretty sure the parking pass indicates midnight like the above poster said).

-Any other general impressions?

It was a nice large outdoor pool. There was security walking around and also driving through the parking lots at night.

They have a small breakfast buffet spread, kids eat free with paying adult, but we will probably skip it in the future.

They have a gift shop in the lobby with just about anything you could need.

LOL there were a lot of there last October....LOL

Good to know; even though it's not free anymore, $4 is still a great bargain, compared to what some hotels nearby charge!

I've stayed there a few times. Some of the rooms do NOT have a balcony/patio but many do.

The two queen bed room we were in a couple years ago didn't have one.

The two queen bed room had a long counter with a sink OUTSIDE the bathroom. The tub and shower were in a separate room.

The king bed room we were in last time had a smaller counter and sink area and it was in the actual bathroom.

The king bed room had a balcony. The room also had a chair.

ALL rooms we've been in had a microwave and fridge.

Parking is $4 a day.

The walk to the gates took us about 10 minutes with no children.

I have a blog where I posted some photos. If you'd like to see it, just send me a PM.

We spent 2 nights at the AP last Sept. and it's a contender for 2 of our nights this July. It's a nice enough place if the price is right.

We have stayed there 3 times in the last 2 years. We really like the hotel. It is older, but very clean and comfotable. ask for a down stairs patio room cause the large patio with outdoor space comes in handy with cooped up kids in a motel room.

The walk is about 10-15 min walk depending on how fast you walk. It's not too bad. Close enough where you can take a break in the middle of the day and go back. I'm a heavyset lady with two toddlers, and I walk quite slow, and It's not too bad of a walk at all.

The parking is a charge, but you have NO time limit during your last day. So lets say you stay one night. You park the first day, the 2nd day when you check out, you can walk over to disneyland and leave the car untill midnight, or when ever the park closes. The hotel lobby told me this. They are not rigid about the exact time frame of parking.

The family suites, I've never stayed in but all they are is two adjoining rooms.

Make sure to book the room from their website, don't call in. The website price is even lower then the AAA price.

Their website gave me the same rate as orbitz did for our dates ($59 a night.) I haven't booked yet but I'll probably just use orbitz.

Thanks for the info guys. I think we r gonna do 2 rooms instead of the family suite. Any other hints etc with this hotel. Also anyone know if they have confirmed dates for the start of halloween?
