We stayed at this hotel on July 23-27 and I thought I would let you guys know my thoughts. When I booked this hotel earlier this year price was a big deciding factor, it was around $30 cheaper than any other hotel within my walking distance on Harbor.

I also wrote a trip report on the other page, but here are my thoughts on the hotel.

By maps and pictures the walk was shorter than I expected. I walked from the bag check to the hotel one day in 6 minutes, and then walked very slowly one day passing nobody on purpose and it took me 12 minutes. Most the time I was just under 10 with both lights taken into account. No breakfast here, parking mattered as we were driving and this hotel was cheap at $4 per night when compared to others. Beds were HARD. Nobody in my family complained and I slept okay, but they were hard. Hot water in the shower was scalding to freezing in seconds depending on sink use, or just others in nearby rooms. Staff was nice, but didn't seem like they would do anything extra for me. I wanted to leave a surprise at the front desk for another group and they weren't very keen on the idea. Pool is GREAT and hot tub was nice. AC never really got the room down to the temp we wanted even though we left it on all week. We weren't hot, but we like it cold.

We had two queen bed room with a 10 by 10 fenced patio which was nice for sitting in the sun/drying pool stuff.

Middle of summer prices and we stayed 4 nights with parking and taxes paid $416 in total.

Good-Price, Pool, Patio
Bad-No breakfast, Hard Beds, Shower Temps, AC

Finally the pool and price are the only reasons to stay here and I'm not sure that is enough. I don't think I will be back, but I will miss the pool if we decide to stay elsewhere.

Very happy to see your review of the Anaheim Plaza. We have reservations for October.

But after seeing how hard the beds are, the problem with the shower temp, and the a/c, I'm not so sure. These happen to be three things that matter to us.

A couple questions: Was it quiet? Could you hear the people above you? Much noise from the parking lot?

Did you request a microwave? Did you get one?

I wonder of ALL their beds are so hard and if the water issue happens in all rooms.

Anyone else have the same problems?

(I see you're from Troutdale...Edgefield is one of my favorite places! Well, i actually love all Portland...lucky you!)

We have stayed there a lot it's the only hotel we will stay in. We never had those problems my mom llikes it like ice and it always cooled down fast for us the beds to us weren't that bad either.

thanks, pearl mirror. I'll call and talk to them before we head down there and ask them about the beds and other stuff. I'm not expecting perfection here for the great price, but a comfy bed and workable a/c is good, although I suppose iin october it shouldn't be too hot....but you never know.

We had a microwave and fridge in our room, so we didn't need to ask.

We stayed in room 110, pretty close to the parking lot and downstairs. We didn't have a noise issue with guests or cars.

As for the water I could barely stay in the shower without getting scalded, like I said. The faucets were on the wrong sides as well. It could be worse during busy times/when I was showering not sure. I did have the same complaint about the water in the 600 building from a family member on the trip.

Anything else?

Thanks for the report and review! :thumbsup2

I'll be staying there for a solo trip in October. Picked it mainly for the price and proximity and because I'm traveling by myself, most of the ammenities I could do without. Based on your review, sounds like the hotel will work well for me.

Did you get a chance to walk over to Gardenwalk shops and if so, how far of a walk was it? Also, did you happen to notice whether cabs were readily available at the hotel entrance?

I stayed in the 700 building in mid July. The water was mostly OK, I noticed that it got a little cold suddenly sometimes but not hot. I did a review of our stay on this thread--not sure how to link to it.

We walked to the Garden Walk--it was closer than DL, an easy walk. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory there.

We did not have hard beds and didn't notice the water problem. We did have a frig and microwave.

What we liked:
The price
The walkable distance. You cross the street at the motel and you are on Disney sidewalks (behind TOT). Plenty of parking which is nice after staying at BWPPI. The Gardenwalk is right behind the motel. Only problem is, you have to walk to the front of the motel and back down the sidewalk as there is no gate in the back of the motel to get to the Gardenwalk.
We also had the long sink in the bathroom. Loved all that counter space.
We did not hear any noise.
I would stay there again.

They do have a little gift shop that you can buy individual sized milk/juice, sodas. They do have a restraunt but we never ate there as we bring cereal, milk. On the way back or to the park, you pass Dennys, IHOP, pizza/ribs if you're hungry.

The room is a good price, location is great, and the rooms are clean. My kids use this place as their "crash pad" when they do Disneyland without me. My younger daughter does joke she isn't sure which is harder, the beds or the floor. But they prefer the prices there. They have never had the water or AC issues.

I stayed there a year ago. I had the same issues with the water in the shower as the OP--very extreme fluctuations.

The pluses:
*price (we paid $59)
*large room
*big balcony (we were on the second floor)
*mw and fridge
*easy access
*big pool (didn't use it though)
*kind of kitschy-cool with its old-fashioned landscaping etc

The minuses:
*very old and questionable carpeting and lino in our room
*not completely clean--old tattered carpet, dirt behind fridge and along wall edges. Beds, main floor, and bathroom fixtures were clean except sink drain, mentioned next
*a whole bunch of little gnats flew in and out of our sink drain and it had a mildew smell, though nothing visible was dirty
*water temp issues

I don't mean this to sound like our room was dirty and nasty, it was mainly just old and in need of updating. That, however, will likely raise the room cost.

We found the beds to be fine, but I'm not especially picky in that regard. We thought the hotel was worth $59 but wouldn't have wanted to pay more for it. At the time, BWPPI was $89 for comparison. My dd and I agreed we would rather spend extra money to stay somewhere nicer, but if your budget is tight, APH is a good option.

We did not ask to have anything done about our sink drain as we were only there for a very short time. I don't know how the management would have dealt with it because we didn't bother to see. I don't really hold it against them since for all I know they were unaware of the problem with the gnats and whatever was probably clogging the drain and attracting them.

Because we take several trips from Seattle throughout the year, we do out best to keep the hotel cost down, within reason. Its important that we are staying within walking distance, so we'll stick with our reservation and stay at the AP in October.

How many buildings does it have? We requested a ground floor so we don't have to lug all our stuff up the stairs. We'll be driving, and staying in socal at least two weeks, so we have a lot. I just hope a herd of elephants doesn't check into the room above us....lol.

I appreciate everyone's reviews! Its really helped out a lot.

If anyone else has anything to add, please do!

And oh, how about pictures? I looked on tripadvisor and there are some, but would love to see more. If there are some on DISboards, I haven't found them.

The Anaheim Plaza consists of a few different building, is this right? If so, are any better than the others?

Parking lot noise is negligible, as was noise from other guests. The most noise was from the guests rolling suitcases or the maid cart being pushed past your door.

Did you request a microwave? Did you get one?

Micro and fridge are included, or they have been in every room we've stayed in at the API.

I wonder of ALL their beds are so hard and if the water issue happens in all rooms.

We don't find the beds hard at all, and we like our beds softer. Maybe because we are so tired at the end of the night, but we sleep fine on these. The water temp happens to us every time we stay there. I always talk about it when we discuss this hotel. I don't know what the factors are but IME yes, it goes from perfect to freezing to scalding (or vice versa) in a matter of seconds. Probably my biggest complaint.

The GardenWalk is very close, we walked from the hotel to the GW many times and it takes about 5 minutes. No cabs at the front entrance, but most hotels don't have cabs hanging around. If you need one call the front desk about 30 min. before you need it and they will get you one.

Yes, there are multiple buildings, we've stayed in 2 & 4 mostly, see my comments above. :)

Thanks Pixiewings71 ... so there are at least 4 bldgs.

I'm going to call them before we go and have them explain the locations and stuff. Would like to be a little aways from the parking lot if possible.

We've stayed at AP several times. DH is picky about beds and didn't have any issues with the beds there. We've always had a bottom floor room and the big patio. We were supposed to have a microwave and didn't last time but they brought one right away when we asked. I've never found the front desk staff to be overly helpful unless directly asked.

The walk to the park is very doable as was Gardenwalk. I seem to remember having issues with the water temps too when we were there in March. I've not heard much from the neighbors except the showers and the maids cart outside.
