Are their cabs outside of the Amtrak station in Anaheim? If we take a train down from the Bay Area in CA, the train pulls into Anaheim at 10:51PM so I am wondering if their are cabs, buses, shuttles that would take us to our hotel room?

You might have better luck getting of at the Fullerton station, which is the prior stop when heading south. The Fullerton station is adjacent to an OCTA Transportation Center where you could take the #43 bus southbound, but more importantly I'd say there's a better chance of having a cab waiting. The Anaheim station is off in one corner of the Angel Stadium parking lot and there's no OCTA bus service to the station at that time of night. Cabs do service the station, but that being the last of the night you might need to call for one.

A brand new shuttle service just started Oct. 1 between the Anaheim Amtrak Station, Disneyland and area hotels:

Disneyland Link Starts Oct 1, 2007
Getting to Disneyland on Southern California's expanding rail network will get much easier Oct. 1 with the start of regular shuttle service between the Anaheim Amtrak station, the Disneyland Resort and Anaheim Resort hotels.

The shuttles, which will cost $3 for adults and be free for children 10 and under until Jan. 8, 2008 ($1 after that), will meet all northbound and southbound Pacific Surfliner trains. The trains run ten times daily between Los Angeles and San Diego, with some trains continuing to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo via Oxnard and Ventura.

A schedule will be posted at www.rideart.org, according to the organizers.

Surfliner trains are about hourly in both directions. Metrolink trains - more of a communter service on weekdays that also runs on the weekend - also stops at the Anaheim Station. Northbound trains stop at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, which is also connected to the Red Line that goes to Hollywood and Universal Studios.

Hey, that's a great move, and about time. I'm hoping the ART drivers are instructed to wait for the train, and not leave at 10:51pm. I know the southbound Coast Starlight is notoriously late, and (I'm pretty sure) the last southbound Surfliner is required to wait for the Starlight, so can be pretty late sometimes.

Having missed that connection several times (the southbound Starlight just kinda gets there when it gets there), I know that the Surfliner doesn't wait for long.

And to answer the original question, I've always seen cabs at the Anaheim station. It's become a transportation hub for Orange County and the cabbies know where the fares are.

This is really great info to have. I'm taking the Amtrak from Oceanside up to Anaheim for my solo trip and I too was wondering about cabs and cab fare from the station to my hotel.
I checked out the ART routes & I didn't see Candy Cane Inn listed on any of them. Maybe I just didn't see it or maybe I'll just have to get off at another stop and walk to CCI. :confused3

So what happens then - does Amtrak bus you the rest of the way, or are you on your own?

how much would it cost to just take a taxi from the Anaheim train station to a hotel on Harbor Boulevard? Are the taxis readily available?

That's a 2-3 mile ride so wouldn't cost much, and Another Voice says taxis should be readily available. My question was about what happens to people who miss the Coast Starlight connection to the Pacific Surfliner at Union Station in LA. That's about 30 miles - an expensive taxi ride. I'm hoping Amtrak would bus the passengers from LA to their stations along the Surfliner route.

Amtrak has busses waiting that will drop everyone off at their ticketed stop. Not as comfortable as the train, but by then I'm just ready for anykind of transportation to get me home.

Each time we returned to Anaheim Amtrak there were cabs waiting, even when we got there to travel and trains were cancelled due to a gas leak there were lots of cabs waiting!

We paid between $8-10 + tip to radisson maingate on Harbor S.

If there are no cabs waiting call Yellow cab co. #1-800-535-2211 / 714-535-2211 / 949-515-0808 / 562-694-4733. Make sure you give your name when ordering so no-one can steal it!
