A postman friend of mine was killed by a hit and run driver last saturday while delivering mail. Simos was an excellent worker and a fine human being.
Today at Simos' wake, the mailmen came. Two by two, the line went on and on and on. I made a few observations.
They were skinny, tall, fat, black, old, young, men, women, scruffy, groomed, white, hispanic, pretty, handsome, plain, oriental. They were all of us. They were the normalist looking collection of people I ever saw. They were so so sad. They whimpered, were teary eyed, cried, bawled, shivered, shoke with emotion, some collapsed. I know they loved Simos, and having the wake on 9/11 was an emotion that just added to the moment. I talked with mailmen from all over the state and the country.
I gotta give it to them. Rain Shine Sleet Snow Cut backs and Long hours. They are there. They'll stop and chat and your regular knows all about you and your neighbors. They are concerned. We take them forgranted, but they are our pony express boys and girls.
Lets Give It Up For Our Postal Service Workers!!!

:( A hit in run! That is so sad. I hope the catch the person that killed your friend.
