An Invasion of a "STRANGER" Kind.... NEW THREAD IS UP!! Go Thee NOW!

:lmao::lmao: Good one! I hope I don't have to come home and write up a really snarky review because it's become JIKO, the Bad Service Place.

I would be horrified! :scared1: But I would probably still go because I love the filet THAT much. I would just ignore the rude server and hope he doesn't spit in my food. ;) Last time we went, our server was incredibly nice and accommodating, just like you would expect at WDW! :thumbsup2

I'm excited to try both, mainly because both of them get me to the AKL/V area!!! I can't wait to see them! With Sanaa in the mix, I'm sure I'll get my fill!

It really is a cool hotel! DS loved being able to go outside after the meal and see giraffes!

Hopefully, in the last 25 years, I've matured a bit and my higher thinking skills have developed. I'm going to go back to school when I get back at some point, and shoot for nursing. THis time, when the mole and Avagadro's number comes a knocking at my intellectual door, I'll have the sense to get myself to a tutoring center. ;)

Good for you! :thumbsup2 I don't even know what those terms are you referred to, so I will assume they are chemistry related :teacher: My little sister is a nurse, and I know her schooling was hard, but definitely worth it! :goodvibes

I also hope you had about 4 liters of Lemony Hollandaise sauce to smother everything in. Potatoes. Need. Sauce. ;):lmao:

Mmmm, my DH makes an AMAZING home-made hollandaise sauce. He uses eggs, butter, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, white pepper, and hot sauce. Sooo good, I would eat almost anything smothered in that stuff!

Maroo just skyped me all frantic like!!!! Could it possibly be true???????

I'm about peeing my britches, you know!!!

I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm guessing there is a chance of a MNSSHP during your trip :scratchin

I totally agree with M:S:The Puking Place! I did that once and NEVER again! :lmao:

Hi Shann! :wave2:

I've never been to Jiko. We're planning on Boma next trip, but I wonder if Jiko would be better? Hmmmmmm.....

If I had to pick for you, I would say BOMA first to see if you even like this kind of food. I really loooooved BOMA, it had sooo many things to try, with all the different salads to try and soups I was really happy. There's also different kinds of hummus :cloud9: and with all of that and the grilled seafood and chicken I ate I couldn't have been happier!!! :yay: There are plenty of meats if you want them, but you'll find you probably won't want much of them since there are so many other things to try. :goodvibes

Also, if you're not adept at languages, Spanish isn't any better. It's the other class I ever withdrew from at college because I was failing it! I stuck with my favorite dead language~ Latin! (I might not be able to talk to anybody, but I can read all the old inscriptions.)

I'm right there with you Shann, I was failing Spanish too. A minimum of three hours a day homework didn't work so well with me, especially when I had 12 other credit hours, this class was like a class and half credit wise and it was like studying for two classes on top of four other classes. :sad2: I was not the most confident student to begin with, I grew up being told I would be lucky to make it through high school, let alone make it to college, and if I did happen to make it into college the only thing I would walk out of there with would be an Mrs. degree. Way to pump up your kid, right?!? I only wish I had the choice of taking latin, I think I would have done well, I love learning the origin of words.

Camille, I'm pretty sure Judy just puts some olive oil and maybe a little salt on them and I grill them in the grill basket. At least I hope it's olive oil -- they look kinda slimy when they get to me.

Sorry, I'm around....just been busy. (Shhh, I'm supposed to be working now, but no meetings until later.)

 It's good to hear a man willing to help out with the cooking. :thumbsup2 I wonder if a little lemon juice would be good with it?

Speaking of kitchen gadgets, anyone on here know of a really good apple slicer, you know the one's that are segregated into all the slices and cores it all at the same time? My daughter eats a lot of apples and likes to use this to cut up her apples. I don't like her to use a knife just yet and need a new apple slicer since the one I have has pretty much lost it's sharpness, I need to find a new one. The one I saw at Crate and Barrel seemed a little to dangerous and very tall, I wouldn't be able to put it into a drawer to store it. Why do they make things you can't store easily? :confused3

Oh, and on the asparagus...a few years ago I got the idea to use a peeler to peel the hard thick skin towards the bottom of the stalk so as not to waste so much of the asparagus because it was too "tough". Judy thought I was nuts until she saw somebody on the Food Network doing it....now she does it too. <taking bow> Thank you.

Way to go Glennbo!!! :thumbsup2

Hi Liesa - I was up so late the night before on here that I crashed early as well last night!

Can you believe - I have never been to a rope drop!! Not a morning person - but I guess I will have to put it on my to do list.

I have to say I never even knew there was such a thing until we were there bright and early one morning and saw it! It would be worth getting up early enough to catch it, even if it's just one time. :goodvibes

I hate to do this to you Liesa, but I can't keep my eyes open much longer. I think I better hit the hay.

Love ya girl! My love to all y'all! Nite!

I'm sure it will be more than wonderful, but I have read of some pretty bad service at almost every Disney restaurant now and again...

It really is a cool hotel! DS loved being able to go outside after the meal and see giraffes!

THAT will be amazing!!! I can't wait!

Good for you! :thumbsup2 I don't even know what those terms are you referred to, so I will assume they are chemistry related :teacher: My little sister is a nurse, and I know her schooling was hard, but definitely worth it! :goodvibes

Haha!! Neither do I, I just hear my daughter who's takingit right now talk about those terms. :confused3 I really want to work in a surgical unit. Bek, my daughter wants to go the ER route. I hope she's up for immense amounts of stress in her life....

Mmmm, my DH makes an AMAZING home-made hollandaise sauce. He uses eggs, butter, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, white pepper, and hot sauce. Sooo good, I would eat almost anything smothered in that stuff!

Mmmm.... I could eat that on everything, too. Then I might look like the hippos on the Safari.

I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm guessing there is a chance of a MNSSHP during your trip :scratchin

Bingo!! Give that girl a prize!!

Good Morning, Good Night, Camille!!

I know the sleep need- go get some rest!!

I may have some very good news this week... ;)

Here is a little Jiko review from last year.

We walked back into AKL and headed to Jiko. We got to the counter and checked in..... well... not really. The CM couldn't find my ressie. He was checking all kinds of ways. He finally found it- It was for SUNDAY! I know I would have never made a ressie for Sunday considering I would be sitting in my house in CT 1200 miles away! He asked us to be seated and he would find us a table.

Now Jiko wasn't totally filled. There were empty table throughout the restaurant. We were seated and I almost felt a little out of place. There were a few kids in the restaurant.... but not many. Juliana is a very well behaved kid. She listens good and she knows what we expect of her. Sometimes I think our expectations may be high, even we forget that she is 2 (now 3). It is a good thing she is so well behaved because I don't know what we would have done if she wasn't.

We were looking over the menu and our waitress came over. Melody ordered a martini and I got a beer. We decided to get the Taste of Africa as an appetizer. There were 3-4 different types of bread and 3 different sauces to dip them in. It was good. We ordered our meals. I ordered the filet. It was placed on a bed of mac & cheese and had a red wine sauce. Melody had the pan-seared scallops. They came over butternut squash gratin with an apple slaw & apple vinaigrette. I'm not a huge fan of butternut squash but this might be close to the best food I've ever tasted in my life! I wished I didn't order filet and ordered this- although the filet was excellent as well. Juliana had the kids mac & cheese. We were debating whether to get dessert or not.. We decided not. We were all pretty full. This meal came to $130 with the tip.

Jiko has a different feel than all of the other restaurants we were at all week. We were glad we ate here and experienced it, but I don't think we will be rushing back here on our next trip.

Keep in mind that people were very dressy here. I don't think I'd go here with a toddler again if I had the choice. I'm sure you will have a great experience here. The taste of Africa was really good and Juliana was even eating the different kinds of flat bread.

You guys are posting faster than I can keep up this morning!!

I had to step away for a couple minutes- my kids insisted on breakfast... :lmao: Now, I'm done cooking cream of wheat, and am back for a spell...

I still think it's crazy you are getting up when I'm going to sleep and vice versa.

It IS strange sometimes. The East Coasters are the hardest ones to keep up with, they are always in bed before I can get on.

OK, thanks!! I will go there in a bit. :)

I saw that someone was up late last night.

Couldn't sleep? :confused3

It happens... I have a feeling you both put up updates while I was sleeping, and I'm terribly behind now, again. :confused3

Check this out-
Mel just bought tickets tonight to fly to Florida in 4 weeks. It is her godsons birthday and she is taking Juliana with her for the weekend. I only have 1 job that weekend but I can't get out of it.

I'm not sure I could be that close to Disney and not step foot in a park.... especially considering I have an AP that I won't be using again. :sad1: Maybe they will hit DTD or something like that. :confused3

REALLY!!!?? I would NEVER go to FL w/o going to Disney!!

:scared1::scared1::scared1: My 12 year old just got his first zit. Just thought you'd wanna know that!!! :scared1::scared1:

Too bad you can't go!! Maybe they'll cancel at the last minute!! :confused3 Imagine, you might get that solo trip afterall! ;)

Who me?! :rotfl: Yeah..I just couldn't get to sleep!

Yeah, you! ;)

I don't think poor Tate could handle such a thing.

It would be a tragic turn of affairs, for sure!!
I was actually thinking today, that he needs a new outfit and to make an appearance soon. PUtting my thinking cap on.............

now.

Sounds scrumptious. :crazy2:

I'm not a cream of wheat or grits kinda guy.

There is usually one you can count on... (most nights) :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::rotfl2:

They are outside or Orlando but only live 30 minutes from the park. If I went it would be torture... TORTURE I say!

:scared1::scared1::scared1: My 12 year old just got his first zit. Just thought you'd wanna know that!!! :scared1::scared1:
Thanks... Glad you didn't give a play by play of the first popping!:eek: :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I"m actually glad to hear this. I personally, am hoping for a few NICER places without a bunch kids being fussy- as they all are. I do NOT have a problem with that, my own kids can get "kiddy", but this trip is all about having a break from that. You know this all too well, by now.

I have my outfit picked out- will show you all later- I do hope it's dressy enough.

Now, on a totally different subject- almost. Mike bought a big bottle of gin because wanted to try a martini. I had one and it was GROSS!!! beyond gross. It was Ummmm... repulsive. ;)

Does anyone know of a good mix for gin for someone who likes their liquor a bit on the sweet and fruity side?? I was thinking OJ and gas water. ???

I did post an update today!!
I knew it!! I'll be on here until 6:00 tonight just getting caught up!! :scared1: Eventually, I'll make it over- if ya'll will stop posting here. :lmao::lmao::lmao: J/K... This IS party central. :rotfl2:

Sounds scrumptious. :crazy2:

Grits with sorghum... Mmmm!!!! :cloud9: Cram of wheat, NO! (no, that was not a typo)

There is usually one you can count on... (most nights) :thumbsup2 :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I have no idea what this was in reference to... Oh yeah, East Coasters... Yeah someone's almost always up somewhere. :woohoo:

They are outside or Orlando but only live 30 minutes from the park. If I went it would be torture... TORTURE I say!

NO, YOu need to go, JUST to get a short solo trip in. It'd have to be understood when you bought the ticket.

Thanks... Glad you didn't give a play by play of the first popping!:eek: :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

No. I won't let him do that. He's my "slower" kid. (Autism spectrum) And I"m not sure he'd figure that out on his own. So, I'll just guide him into good washing and a little Clearasil when the time is right.

It is party central and I'm actually here for the party this time!! :cool2:

It was never a REAL party until you showed up.

Did I mention I had a weird dream last night??

We were on a cruise for my 25th reunion (crap, I'm old!) and I was snubbed by the In-crowd (old high school insecurities rearing their ugly heads at 42! Sheesh!) ; and they wouldn't let me in the lounge. I ordered a Tangierine Dream from the ship's bartender, and we thought my daughter fell overboard, but ended up being in a friend's cabin spending the night. It was so bizarre!

I think you will love it here. :) Although, I will say there were kids around and being kids.

I'm sure it will be just fine. :thumbsup2

I'm not sure what other kinds of alcohol you have to mix with it.. gin is a hard liquor to add to drinks IMO.

You can try this- Long Island Iced Tea (only have one and wait. LOL)

1/2 oz triple sec
1/2 oz light rum
1/2 oz gin
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz tequila
1 oz sour mix
cola
lemon wedge for garnish
Preparation:

Pour the spirits and sour mix into a collins glass with ice.
Stir well or shake.
Top the glass off with cola.
Garnish with the lemon wedge.

Variations of the LIIT:

Long Beach Iced Tea – cranberry juice
Miami Iced Tea – cranberry juice, lemon-lime soda, peach schnapps for tequila
Electric Iced Tea – blue curacao and lemon lime soda
Hawaiian Iced Tea – pineapple juice
Raspberry Long Island Iced Tea – raspberry vodka and rum (possible with any infused spirits)
Texas Tea – add bourbon
Touchdown Tea – Gatorade for sour mix

Tom Collins (I wouldn't drink this.. but it is semi popular)

The Tom Collins refreshing gin sour that is an excellent sipper for hot summer days. There are a two common ways to make this drink. The one below uses simple syrup and lemon while the other replaces those two ingredients with the convenience of sour mix.
There are other many “Collins” drinks that vary because of the base liquor: ie. John Collins, Vodka Collins, Juan Collins, American Collins.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz gin
1 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz sugar syrup
club soda
maraschino cherry for garnish
lemon slice for garnish
Preparation:

Pour the gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup in a collins glass with ice cubes.
Stir thoroughly.
Top with club soda.
Garnish with the cherry and orange slice.

Gin and Juice

Ingredients
2 oz. gin
2 oz. grapefruit juice
3 oz. orange juice
ice
1 lime wedge.

These should get you started! :worship::worship: :lmao::lmao: :drinking1:drinking1

My only question is were you on DCL? :rotfl2:

Actually I have two.. In your dream you were discussing the fact that your daughter fell overboard and you were ordering a cocktail? AWESOME! :scared1: :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Ok, here's the deal...

Mike was supposed to be watching her, while I re-lived my glorious past with a bunch of schmucks who wouldn't even let me into the lounge for elites. Whatever. Didn't matter, I was also hitting on an old high school flame. :lmao: The stuff that our sub-consciouses hold is truly baffling sometimes. Freud would be proud.

TG, you study this nutty stuff. What percentage of americans dream about past relationships 25 years after the fact??

Well at least someone was watching her! Hypothetically speaking. ;)

I think dreams like this make you thankful once you wake up... speaking of dreams, I should go make some of my own now.
