An Invasion of a "STRANGER" Kind.... NEW THREAD IS UP!! Go Thee NOW!

Hi Liesa, saw your post on my TR, but thought, I'd come here to play... :goodvibes

It's a fun playground to visit! No bullies, lots of swings (as in topics), and a few slides. (Don't even get me started on what our yard smells like after the pump truck finished playing here- there's sewage all over the front of our house, after they burst our pipe!) Sandboxes- I need to get us one of those!

Day here is good, just back form a wonderful lunch with my sister. I will really miss being able to see her so often! Maybe we will meet tomorrow night to cook some asparagus. Asparagus is a big thing here when it is in season. The season just started last week and goes until St John's day (June 24). So we have to make the most of it, especially since Katharina's DH doesn't like it. Here in Germany we nearly only have the white asparagus, not the green stuff. I love it with Hollandaise!! :cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

I LOVE asparagus, as long as it is cooked al dente!! If it's cooked too long and is mushy, then it icky! Hollandaise only makes it 10 times better! :cloud9: My MIL was big into asparagus too, and always had it on our Easter table.

Otherwise, things here are still crazy regarding volcanic ashes... Our chancellor spent the whole weekend travelling back from the US. Her plane landed in Lisbon in Portugal, then went on to Rome from where she got transported by car to Bozen in Northern Italy and then on with helicopter to Berlin. The journalists and other people who were on the plane with her were sent by bus from Rome back to Germany and this bus then had an accident (a tire burst), luckily no one was injured. What a nightmare for so many people who are stuck somewhere and can't get home. I just read that the British government is considering to send an airplane carrier to Spain to collect the Brits stranded there. :scared1:

It is NUTZ over there!! I just logged on and saw that about the Carriers going over to help out. Crazy!!! I am really starting to get nervous!! I hope that things stops belching by August! :scared1:

Can helicopters fly in it, but jets not?? I really have no idea how all that works- but am so glad everyone was safe on the bus, and that your chancellor got back fine too!! Besides being inconvenient, it's becoming very dangerous!

Why isn't there a smily on a swing???

EEK! :scared: It doesn't get any better, does it? :sad2:

Of course, it shouldn't be too soft! Another great way to eat it is as a salad: cook it and then while still warm marinade it in a vinaigrette with vinegar, oil and vegetable buillion. Then served at room temperature with chives sprinkled on top. :cloud9: Ah, I am looking forward to the next two months!

The ash is only above 6000 meters, so below that it is still ok. So it is mainly a problem for commercial jet aircraft. Smaller propeller planes and helicopters can still fly. Also jets if they fly below 6000 meters, but then they have to do a "visual flight". They have been moving around a few empty planes during the weekend which had been diverted when the closures began in order to have them where they are supposed to be to start using them asap once this is over. And those were fine. The airlines are really getting rather angry about this and claim that the precautions are too extensive and not necessary. It is estimated that the European airlines are losing 200 million $ a day at the moment. :scared1:

Now it looks like that the weather is changing and starting to blow some of the ashes towards north eastern Canada... Ironically Iceland's airtraffic is not affected by this!!

But I can tell you that Iceland really isn't very popular here in Europe at the moment. First the European Union bailed out Iceland during the financial crisis (and many people lost quite a lot of money they had invested there) and now they send us all their volcanic ashes... :sad2:;)

EEK! :scared: It doesn't get any better, does it? :sad2:

Nope. Now we need to fix our pipe (again) and then the can try once again.

Mmmm... that's sounds SUPER great! Unfortunately, we can't get it at all here! I just ran across the very first avocado I've ever seen here last week. If it hadn't have been so squishy, I'd have bought it. :sad2:

That makes sense! Now I get it.

PHEW!! This will really set them all back for a very LONG time!! How awful!

Ironic, for sure!

Yeah, I can see that, but I'm sure they didn't plan it this way. :rotfl2:

Oh wow, are you? I'm in Albany, NY. About a 7 hour drive away! That would be a lot of fun!

I will be in Albany at a self advocacy conference in October !! When I have details maybe you can visit me !! I can't leave as am rsponsible for all the consumers !!!

It'd be great if you two could get together!! How fun!

Wow! Hardly any chatter all weekend and now several pages overnight! Geez guys - making me read the chatter instead of working is not helping my productivity! ;)

I think is the last answer I needed in the game. . .

4) How many times will we ride EE? Toy Story? Soarin’? and Splash Mountain?
EE - 1, TSM - 3, Soarin - 4, Splash - 1

Speaking of the DC meet, are the final details worked out yet? PM me when they are.

Love the plan for Day 7! Sounds long but great! Jordan and I did an AK EMH on our trip in October and really enjoyed it! We rode EE twice in a row with a wait of a few minutes.

This volcanic ash thing is crazy! It is affecting so many people. I can't imagine being stranded in a foreign country with no way to get home and in a lot of cases with limited financial resources to make the wait comfortable or to find alternate transportation. One of my co-workers has friends stranded in Paris that are paying $2800 per ticket to try to get out. :scared1:

It was VERY quiet over the weekend! Lots of folks just busy, busy.

Still trying to figure out the best way to record everyone's answers....

I can't wait to see AK at night! A lot of people think it's the prettiest park at night.

It IS wild!!! I'm sure it's becoming VERY expensive for a lot of poeple!!

Gotta get back to work :headache: but maybe a spreadsheet for everyone's answers?

Lots to catch up on here. Puking, sewer issues, hot-tub induced maladies.

Asparagus is great grilled, that's how we usually fix them.

Why isn't there a smily on a swing???

Yeah, that's what I was thinking! Hmmm.... DH might go camping this weekend with the kiddos, so that'd be a good time to do that.

LOVE the smilie! Thanks!! Where does everyone find those fun ones??

Yeah, this thread always seems to go those directions. Funny, but in my line of work, all of those are actually common topics of conversation. We deal with this stuff FAR too often! :sad2:

Grilled like outside on the Barby??

I am not sure this works with the white asparagus... And my oven doesn't have a grill. :confused3 I would love to try it though...

Thanks you!!!

Doesn't white asparagus tend to be more tender than green??

That was fun!

I'm so glad you enjoyed that!! I think I'm almost as excited for the answers as you are!!

Photobucket. Just go to the "search images" window in the upper right and type what you're looking for.

Grilled like outside on the Barby??

Yep. Now, you're going to think I steered the conversation in this direction to sell some product, but I assure you I did not. Anyway, Judy has a PChef grill basket that we use on the outdoor grill...mostly for asparagus, but also fish or other things that might fall through the grill grate. In the wintertime she uses a PChef grill pan on the stove. It's kind of like a square-shaped non-stick frying pan, but it has some raised ridges to give grill marks.

Great tip!! Thanks! Half the time, the smilies here are all messed up,and I cant' even see half of them.

I'd never accuse you of that!! :goodvibes

But, so what are you saying?? That it's the same as using a frying pan, but give the illusion of grilling by putting a few marks on whatever's being cooked?? :confused3 Do things taste different??

:rotfl: I hope you're getting some sort of reward...:thumbsup2

he gets the most expensive free trip ever. ;)

everyone sure has been chatty! I like the new game, but I hate waiting until September (or later) for answers. I am not a very patient person you know. But anyway, I will be back at some point with answers. I need to think about it. :scratchin

Not likely.

Exactly!

I don't know what I'm saying! It's more than "illusion", but yet it is like using a frying pan. Judy uses it for hamburgers, I think she likes that they're not just sitting down in the grease. You can also get a grill press, which is a heavy metal plate with similar ridges and with a handle. You put it on the food to press it down. You can use it to make panini's (no single-use tools/machines!) and things like that, but she uses it just with hamburgers to hold the heat in and help them cook faster.

The grill basket on the barbecue is the way to go though!

The game loos cool. I'll hopefully play along soon. Been a crazy 5 weeks here. I thought we were going to catch a break until I heard we have plans AGAIN this Sat. :headache:
