The headline on one of our local news station's web page is
"KERRY WILL ACCEPT NOMINATION"

No! Really? I would have never guessed that. What a fine example of hard hitting, investigative reporting of the obvious. Whats next guys? "Gravity Still Works"? Or how about a daring weather forecast, "Dark Predicted after Sunset"?

You have to admit it would be much funnier if he didn't accept.

I think he he didn't the people of Boston would have started some sort of riot, since we have had our lives disrupted for the last week (boo to midnight fireworks that are not announced and scare the heck out of people who are trying to sleep on a monday night) for the dem's little party...

One of the world great modern mysteries.........the ability for the media to state the obvious and make it sound utterly stupid.

much better tv ratings! :p

you mean Dennis Kucinich didn't win? Darn... :smooth:

I have to admit being thoroughly confused by the whole thing.

Keep in mind, I'm Canadian and have no idea what the finer points of the US political system are. But... how is it that someone can run/campaign for a position that their party hasn't officially nominated them for yet?

I'm sure I've been seeing Kerry ads for a while now - he HAS been campaigning hasn't he? Or was all that the pre-campaign campaigning?

Amberle3, Kerry has been campaigning for the Democratic party nomination. Each state holds a Democratic (and Republican) primary (or caucus) to select which candidate will represent that party in the national election in November. The convention occurs after the primaries are over. In practical terms, John Kerry already is the nominee and has been for a couple months. But tonight he officially becomes the nominee of the Democratic party. George W. Bush does not officially become the Republican nominee until the Republican convention, although he is unopposed.

I hope that clears it up.

As my DH says, political conventions (either party) are not conventions where things get decided as much as they are pep rallies for the party.

I like to watch snippets of them, to see who's there and what's going on, but I can't watch them for anylength of time, or the baloney that flies around starts to get a little nauseating.
