I think you have that backwards. Dogs come in 8's buns in 6's.

Yeah, I'm not reading that as divided (or times for that matter) I'm reading it as the same as 6 12 ounce packages.

After some though I think it is actually 10 dogs and 8 buns. But I don’t buy either more than once maybe twice a year.

I was taught this also; however, I was also taught (way back in the days of being a secretary and using a writing "style" book) that when two numbers are used in the same sentence, you have to be consistent with both of them and not use the two forms together. So either use the numeral form for both or the text form for both. However, that rule was for constructing sentences and not labeling products.
