I work in a pretty demanding business where I work on behalf of clients. I had this one lovely client for whom I worked very hard, to the best of my ability; but unfortunately, things didn't end up the way we had hoped for her in spite of our best efforts. She was very understanding, which I truly appreciated. In addition, I had to tell her the news only one week after she lost her husband. I felt horribly about the situation but there was nothing we could do.
Now two months later, I get a package in the mail. Inside is that little blue box. I was wondering why my dh was sending me a present at my office so close to Christmas. Was it a mistake?
Nope, it was from client thanking me profusely for all my work on her behalf - with a Tiffany necklace in it. It truly brought me to tears. I've never had a client do such a nice thing for me before.
Contrast that with the client for whom I got more than she ever dreamed possible who then screamed at me and complained to my boss because I wouldn't lower the already agreed and contracted for fee for which she signed she was agreeable to at the beginning of our relationship.
All I ever want is a thank you and understanding of the amount of work I do for a client. Today, I truly felt appreciated - and from someone for whom I couldn't get the desired result. In spite of that, she understood it wasn't that I didn't work hard for her; but it was just the way circumstances were.
