Hi all! Long time lurker here.
Mine will be a "light" planning journal, as I am usually brief (I think - unless I get over-excited!!!!)
About us:
Yuri and I met in August of 2011. I had previously been engaged to someone who I had a 7 year on-off relationship with. We were only engaged 3 months before he freaked out about getting married.
He literally disappeared and stopped calling me... anyway - this is relevant because I waited a couple of months for him to ask me for the ring back, but he literally didn't contact me at all, and I sold the ring. I literally met Yuri the very next day! I had to let go in order to meet him!
Yuri knew what he wanted, and I was very hesitant (understandably!) He wore me down and by late September, I agreed to date him exclusively. One of the things I worried about was that he works offshore, so he is home a month and gone a month. (I have since realized that, while I miss him, I also like my time to do "me" stuff!) I had a "premonition" I guess one day, and told a friend that I suddenly knew I would marry him!
Anyway... fast forward... Yuri proposed in November that year. Yes, November! His parents met and married within 4 months, and have been married for 46 years! I said yes, but was nervous. He was ready to get married right away. I told him I wanted to be together for a year first. He understood, even though he was ready.
Sometimes, a man just knows!!!
I should back up and mention he is originally from Holland - lived there until he was 12. His parents moved with him to the US then. I, however, am from JERSEY!
Interesting mix!!!! I have my MBA and sell large power contracts. Yuri works offshore in Africa on an oil rig. We are kinda different but both LOVE Disney, and share the same moral values. This is key!
So anyway... I have always loved Disney. I started taking my son (now 19) when he was 4. Yuri has always loved Disney. The first movie he ever saw was Pinnochio. He had been to Disneyland, as his family first lived in California. He had never been to Disneyworld! We talked about it and we took our first big trip together, with John (my awesome son), to DisneyWorld in December 2010. We all loved that trip. We rented DVC points and stayed at AKV in a large one bedroom (2 baths). We briefly discussed getting married there. My son enjoyed as well and really really loves Yuri (he hated my ex, so that means a lot!)
Fast forward again - we went through growing pains. He is a very "do everything together" person and I am very independent. I pushed back like a child on a lot of stuff.
Anyway, we got through that stuff.
We booked another trip to the World for October 2011, I had never been to the Food and Wine festival, and we wanted to look at wedding locations. We had a great time (just he and I this time - John had college classes) and we both liked SBP! Being from the Jersey shore and my nostalgia regarding the boardwalk at "home", it was perfect! One thing - we enjoyed food and wine, but we prefer Christmas at Disney! I am glad we had the experience, but we won't be dying to go back to food and wine!
While there, we also bought into DVC!!!!
Since then, I got a new job (also
) and have been trying to plan! We started small, but we wanted a nice reception - not crazy DJ type reception - but relaxed and private. I got a bug up my butt about the Attic after seeing Carrie's pics! I bought her book and everything!
So now, we have tentatively planned a dessert party the evening prior! We don't need a rehearsal dinner - there will be 12-15 people. We have the wedding at 10:00 am, and a reception lunch immediately following at the Attic!!!!!
Oh, and he surprised me with Cinderella's Coach!!!! I am so lucky!
I just went to try on my dress today... more on that!
I don't know how to post pics - otherwise I would!
More later....
