Amy & Yuri's Escape Wedding SBP/The Attic 5/18/2012 - Changes at < 1 month!

I know I have not been on here in forever... Kind of trucking along...

My would be mother-in-law passed away on Sunday. I am so very sad! I was looking forward to her being my MIL! She battled cancer since 2009. On Monday the 20th, she was given 30 days to live. She lasted 6 days. She was all there mentally - so we were very surprised that it went so quick!

In other news, the local job fell through for Yuri. :( So until he gets something in Houston (important still bc his dad is all alone and also has cancer).

We had arranged for a videographer and a live video stream so his parents could see the wedding. We are actually hoping now that his dad will be able to attend the wedding.

I am supposed to get the invitations this week! I will scan one and put it up once we receive them.

We need to pick our cake, minister (recommendations), start alterations, and work on floral. For the floral, I plan to use the same flowers as we are for Yuri's mom's funeral to honor and remember her. I am going to take a picture of the flowers at the service so I can get it right. We have requested white roses and lavender mini-carnations (they may have to use something else for the lavender), so I guess that's a start! I just want to make sure to get that right.

That's all for now... Will post some pics as we progress!

Amy

What sad news, I'm so very sorry for you and Yuri and family. It is never easy to lose a loved one. :sad2:

It would be nice then if his Dad were able to attend the event! Otherwise I think the film is a wonderful option.

Your dress is simply stunning! You're going to be such a beautiful bride!

Love the idea of using Mom's flowers as homage at the wedding, everything always comes full circle. Hugs and prayers for you all!:flower3:

Your dress is so beautiful!

I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL. That is far too quick and terribly sad. I wish you both well.

Hi Amy, I'm new to the Disboards and just read through your PJ... following! popcorn:: I'm really sorry to hear about your future MIL, I will be praying for you guys

Sooo...

First - thank you everyone for the kind words about Yuri's mom.

Yuri started working 2 weeks on/off in Pennsylvania. His dad called him 6 days in and asked him to come home. He was not feeling well after his last round of chemo. Well, Yuri got home and immediately went to his dad's. His dad had not been eating or drinking! He took his dad to the oncologist in the morning (he didn't want to go to the hospital). Well, when he got to the dr, the nurses freaked out! His BP was 40/80 with a heart rate at 172!!!!! He was severely dehydrated. It was affecting his heart. The oncologist came in, started and IV, and demanded Hans go to the ER in an ambulance! Hans ended up in the hospital for 2 days. 7 bags of fluids the first 8 hours!!!! It was all the dehydration and not eating that caused the heart issues. Yuri has been staying with him since - he can't drive because the chemo affects his vision. He is tired all the time. My worry is that a lot of this is depression (understandably)after losing his wife of 46 years. We are really hoping he can make it to the wedding. I think it would be nice for him. In any case, it's hard to be an hour away from each other every day!!!!

So - good news - today I confirmed with Jack Day that he can officiate our ceremony!!!!! He sounded like the sweetest little old man on the phone! We are so excited!

I spoke with Rosie on Monday, and I am expecting some quotes from her soon. I am carrying white roses and lavender mini carnations in honor of Ilona, Yuri's mom. I want SBP decorated with the same flowers. She is very accommodating and I enjoyed the conversation!

My coordinator, Danny, has been so helpful and understanding. I am a little late on getting my packet back to him. Yuri and I are picking music this weekend. I will get the packet back to him Monday. I promised!

Danny contacted the Boardwalk bakery because I am gluten sensitive. Our cake will be elegant scrolls. Yuri loves lemon cake (his grandmother used to make it for him), so the main cake will be lemon with white buttercream filling. Danny has arranged for a cake to be made separate that will be just like the top, but gluten free chocolate. In his words "the bride WILL have cake on her wedding day". LOL! :yay: Danny is also requesting some gluten free options for the dessert party the evening prior to the wedding.

We are going with a guitarist instead of violinist. Since I want to walk to The Princess Bride Theme, it will sound much better.

On the dress front, I started doing Insanity. I have gotten smaller/tighter. I have pushed the first fitting to April 7th so alterations won't have to be repeated too much! The dress shop is trying to find a smaller size at the same time. If any brides are trying to slim down, I highly recommend this program. I can't follow the diet plan bc I have to eat gluten and egg free, however it is intense, about 45 minutes 6 times a week, and WORKS!

I am trying to decide on shoes.... So I usually wear Choo's or Louboutins.... I am trying to decide if I should buy designer shoes that I can wear again or an inexpensive pair specifically for this??? Any suggestions?

Also, anyone have suggestions on hair and makeup people? I have read that beauty speciale is good???

I *think* that's it for the moment. So much going on!!!!!

:dance3:

Keep your head up :thumbsup2 the cake sounds delicious! :lovestruc I am using beauty speciale 4 my vow renewal.. Keep us posted popcorn::

Ok - so for various reasons, we are down to 5 guests (7 people total with Yuri and I). I am kinda bummed, but I understand that some of my friends who originally said they could come are now backing out because they can't afford it. I wish they had told me before, but it is what it is...

I had to kick my son out on Easter Sunday (due to a ton of disrespect). It was a huge argument which hit the peak when his gf's dad showed up at my house calling me a "crazy b*tch" and a "wh*re" and telling me his daughter is a good girl and I have never worked hard in my life. I had never met this man before, and he doesn't know my life story (as in had my son at 18, supported myself and worked my way through school while raising my child, earning my MBA at 26). Anyway, it was at that point that I told John it was time for him to go. He caused this man to come to my house and did not say a word as he was yelling at me. He is 19 and thinks he can take care of himself - then do it! I have not heard from him since.

My brother is taking a new job and just can't come - which I understand (and is much less dramatic than my son...

So - we have Canada Overlook for the DP and The Attic for our reception lunch. Our coordinator, Danny, was worried about our party size, and he suggested other options to save us money since we have 7 people. He has reserved Bonsai Terrace for us (anyone familiar with it???) for the DP. The venue fee is less, as is the minimum for the f&b. We have the choice of either.

I really really wanted to keep the Attic. Danny called the chef and found that he CAN do the buffet for 7 people, and we can make up the difference for the food and beverage minimum with wine! we can just order bottles and bring them with us if not opened. We will be there for a week following the wedding, so we could use a couple of bottles in our room! Our buffet price is $78pp, so the total will be $546, leaving room for some good wines! :cheer2:

While I am disappointed that we won't have everyone there, I am so happy that Danny worked this out for us! He has been so helpful! I don't know if anyone else has Danny, but I am sure he is wonderful for all his brides! :cheer2:

Given how small our group is, I suggested to Yuri that we cancel Cinderella's Coach. He had surprised me with it as a Christmas gift. He got upset with me and is insisting I keep it! It just seems like so much money.... But he says the wedding is about us, and it would not matter if it was even just the 2 of us. So I guess I am keeping it... :confused3

3 weeks and 1 day.... whew! Soooo much going on!

Oh yeah - not happy at work so I am changing jobs right after the wedding. Waiting for my offer letter and will start at a competitor company June 1st! I can't do anything simply... lol!

Hi Amy :wave2:

I've read through your whole PJ and subscribed today popcorn::

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened with your son! I hope he will realize he needs to respect you more and will apologize to you and get back in contact. It sounds like you've done a whole lot for him!

I'm sorry as well that you're down to 5 guests, but think how sweet and intimate that will be :goodvibes you'll be able to have some real quality time with your guests too. Unless you have your heart set on Canada for your DP, Bonsai Terrace I think would be awesome! If I'm thinking of the right place, that's the "stage" in Japan where the drummers play. It would be awesome to have a DP in a place where few brides get to have one! (Because the capacity is 10 I believe for that location). It would be really special and I'm sure the view's great too :cutie:

I think it's super sweet of Yuri to insist you keep the carriage! I agree with him, it is about the two of you and it's your day to be a princess!

Coming out of lurkdom here..

First of all, your dress is beautiful, and you look gorgeous in it! I might be a little biased though, since mine was a Maggie Sottero.;)

Second, I'm going to see if I can get DH to stalk your wedding with me, if you don't mind. We had a SBP/Attic wedding in 1/10, and are now bringing our little girl back for her 1st birthday. I'd love to see another bride and groom have their moment there too! So if you see a tall redhead with leftover baby weight and man with a shaved head and a baby watching from the bushes, it's us!

Have a wonderful day though, and don't let the reduction in guests get you down. Enjoy!

LOL! Feel free to stalk. We are now down to 4 guests as Yuri's dad is in too much pain to make it to the wedding. :( We are just now canceling his reservations.

It's kind of upsetting that we have so few people. But this is really supposed to be about us anyway. :thumbsup2

So sorry to hear about your fiance's parents and guests backing out. Regardless it's going to be beautiful! Not sure if I saw it or not...but will your future father-in-law be able to watch the webcast of your ceremony?

Hi Amy :wave2:

I am more of a DisBoard reader than a poster  ...but I just wanted to say that you look amazing in your dress!

You seem to have gone through a lot during this planning process, and I am very sorry for your loss. I truly believe that this wedding will be amazing and you have kept such high spirits (or so it seems in your PJ). Your DF is right, you should cherish this day, be there 50 or 2 people at your wedding and enjoy Cindy's coach :goodvibes!

I know I will be stalking your PJ for pictures and updates after your wedding as I am having my Escape DFTW at SBP/Attic/Morocco

Cheers,

Melissa

Thank you both! We are really looking forward to the trip. Honestly, with Yuri's dad at home and watching via live video, we will be able to focus on our trip a bit more. :) Everything Disney is very US, and while we enjoy every moment, his dad is very impatient and complains a lot (due to health issues causing pain). So we are trying to look at the brighter side - we get more time to ourselves! :cool1: We can eat and play wherever we want!

I must say that Dannt and DFTW have been amazing to us, and regardless of the guest count, this will be a wonderful day!

4 more days!

I'm sorry to hear that you've had to face so many disappointments and struggles over the last few months...but hopefully, the worst is behind you and your wedding trip will be intimate and magical and beautiful.

You look beautiful and I'm sure your day will be amazing.

Can't wait to hear all about it.

Brooke
