DAY 3: Sunday, May 4th

Joe and I got up and walked over to the Pepper Market to get some breakfast. I had some fruit and cereal and he had a bagel and pastry. We met Mel and Justin at the bus stop at 8:30 and we were on our way to the Animal Kingdom!

ANIMAL KINGDOM

The bus ride was fairly quick and we got to see Blizzard Beach from the highway. I loved that our bus stops always seems really close to the entrance. AK didn’t open for about 15 minutes, but the lines weren’t that bad. We went into a shop to see if we could find a battery for Mel’s camera. Unfortunately they didn’t have one. We heard the music for awakening, but weren’t close enough too see anything.

Once we got through the gates we headed with everyone else to the safari. Mel went to look for batteries in a couple other shop and we went to get a Fast Passes for the safari. We decided to do the walking tour in Africa first, then come back and do the ride. I love watching the gorillas and could have stayed there for hours. We did spend a bit of time there, but had to head back for our FP time. The safari was nice, but there weren’t as many animals as I remember. We only saw one giraffe!

We decided to head to Asia to see the tigers and cool off on the raft ride. It was early, but already hot. I spotted the vine lady and we stopped to check her out. We also took some pictures of the tree of life. There is a spot in between Asia and Africa with great views. There was no line for the Kali River Rapids so we hopped right on. Joe got soaked! The rest of us barely got splashed, so we went on again. This time Justin and Joe got soaked. I managed to keep dry! We did the jungle trek and then made our way to Dinoland for lunch. We stopped at Dinosaur for fast passes and then ate at Restaurantosaurus (burgers and fries). We made it back to Dinosaur just in time. I’m not sure it was a great idea to do this ride right after lunch, but we all loved it!

It was really hot by now and we needed to cool off back at the pool. On the way out we spotting Baloo and Joe got his picture taken with his favorite character! We hopped on the bus and decided to meet at the quiet pool. We had put beer on ice that morning, so we would be all set. We planned to eat at Italy that night and I called to make a PS before heading out.

EPCOT

We met at the bus stop at 4:00 and we’re on our way to EPCOT. This ride was really quick! Mel dropped off her digital film at a camera shop near the entrance. We wouldn’t be able to pick it up that night, so we would have to come back tomorrow. We walked over to test track first, but all the fast passes were gone and the wait was 45 minutes. We decided to skip it for now. We wandered through the Ice Cool Station and had a few free soda samples. I laughed when Joe and Mel tested Beverly! Next, we saw “Honey, I shrunk the audience”. Joe wanted to check out the dolphins and sharks at the living Seas, so we spent some time in there. Actually, we lost track of time in there and were a bit late for our PS at Italy (and it was a long walk from the Living Seas.)

I love World Showcase. It almost feels like you are really visiting all these countries, but you are just at Disney! The lobby at Alfredo’s was crowded, but we only waited about ten minutes before being seated. Our waiter was from Italy and it was a bit hard to hear since the restaurant was really loud, but he spent some time talking with us about the menu and where he came from. I LOVE the fettuccini alfredo here. I wound up splitting and order with Mel since it is so big. Justin tried the Italian beer and the rest of us shared a bottle of wine. It took a while to get our food and by the time we got the check we were already late for our illuminations cruise. We all tried to run, but after that huge meal it just wasn’t happening. I hoped our drive would wait for us!

ILLUMINATION CRUISE

We were close to 30 minutes late, but our boat and driver were waiting at the boardwalk dock for us. I was so happy he didn’t ditch us. I wish we had had time to stop at the Boardwalk store and pick up some drinks and munchies, but we were too late. We all got in and took a tour of the waterway. Our driver gave us lots interesting tidbits of information (most of which I had already heard at the DIS.) I asked if we could get a spot a bit early, but he told me they line the boats up side by side now, so no one has a better view. We got our spot and relaxed to watch the show. I really miss the Tapestry parade. It is something I’ll never forget and EPCOT/illuminations really isn’t as powerful without it.

After the show we cruised back to the dock. We were planning on spending some time at Jelly Rolls, but we were all pretty tired, so we took a cab back to Coronado Springs. Justin got some cold beer from the store and we all met at the Dig Site. We sat in the hot tub for a while. The hot tub at CSR was huge and very quiet. I don’t think I saw one child ever go in it. I wound up getting too hot so I went for a swim in the big pool. After we polished off the beer we all went to bed. We didn’t really have plans for the next day…….

Glad you were able to catch your Illuminations cruise - I love doing this and not having to worry about the crowds - thanks for posting!
