Amusement rides - riding again without getting off

I’ve done this a few times where the rules are that one can ride again without getting back in line if there are available seats. Sometimes we have to find a new seat if someone wants our seats, but sometimes we don’t have to move.

In HS we went on a “Physics Day” field trip to Great America in Santa Clara. We had a presentation from the park’s director of engineering. We made some crude measuring devices but mostly didn’t use them. But the big thing was the “Double Dare the Ride” passes that allowed one to stay on a ride without getting off. All students got 5. Our teacher had a stack of extras. On the bus ride back he said that he used them maybe a dozen straight times on the most popular ride in the park. It was also where the main line separated into individual lines for each row, and he said that with one train operating that the same people were waiting without getting on. It was also open to the public, and from what I heard many guests weren’t too happy about it. I saw stories about these events in future years, and they closed off the park to the general public.

Never managed it at Disneyland though. Maybe on the Disneyland Railroad.

We went on Kali River Rapids a couple of years ago when Animal Kingdom was open late. It was maybe 45 minutes to an hour before closing, and we were the only party on the ride. We rode it 3 times in a row. We could have ridden it more, but by that time we were ready to go.

My boys got to stay on the Alien saucers as many times as they wanted in October. It was during morning EMH. I think they rode 3 times before we headed over to TSM without a wait.

Once at Animal Kingdom it was very uncrowded in the last half hour before closing. I rode the Tri-whatever Topspin (Dinosaur Dumbo) and about 3 other dinosaurs were occupied. When the ride was over no one was waiting in line. The CM said we could ride again if we wanted to. The others left and I had the whole ride to myself.

The same thing happened at Pirates of the Caribbean but we declined to ride again. We already rode it 2 or 3 times earlier in the day.

Six Flags usually lets you re-ride a coaster when no one is waiting for your seat. Sea World made us exit Manta even though there were only about 10 riders waiting for a 32 or 36 capacity train.

Hmmm...

At Disney, we've stayed on the Goofy Barnstormer (during the Christmas party) and Tomorrowland Transit Authority (because there was no line.)

We've stayed on roller coasters at our local zoo (no line), Busch Gardens (no line), and Six Flags in St. Louis (as part of a special event).

At Six Flags Great Adventure they allow and encourage re-rides when there are no lines. I really like that they have the policy since it such a waste of time to have to exit and walk through the empty queue each time when so many seats are going out empty on each coaster train. Some coasters like Superman Ultimate Flight can take close to 10 minutes to walk from the station, through the path to the exit and have to walk through the empty queue again to get back to the station and that can really add up to a lot of time over a day.

I have found Cedar Fair parks to be much more strict about it. At Dorney Park there can be literally not a single person in the coaster station and you still aren't allowed to re-ride.

I've had the same experience at Cedar Point. Pretty frustrating.

We got to do it before closing on Thunder Mountain at DL years ago...I think we rode three or four times before we had to get off. We also had the option to do it on Grizzly Rapids or whatever its called...it was a cool day though so not a lot of people were wanting to ride it. Only rode it once again before we got off but could have kept going.

We were at WDW in 2017 just before Irma hit. We got to stay on for The Barnstormer 4x, the Little Mermaid 2x, and Winnie the Pooh 2x. The CMs didn’t suggest it but when we would come around and notice no one else in line, we would ask and they always said yes. I’m sure other rides would have had no line as well, but my kids were ages 1 and 3 at the time, so those were the rides we were checking out. Buzz Lightyear was a walk-on and I think we could have stayed on and rode again but we didn’t want to. There was a 5 min wait for Peter Pan (we had to rush through the interactive queue and we were sad!) And there was no line to meet Anastasia and Drizella so they climbed on to the carousel (also a walk-on) and goofed around, cat-calling a little girl dressed as Cinderella walking by. Through it all though, somehow 7DMT stayed at a 90 min wait!

I think it depends on the ride - I do know that the more intense coasters are required to make you get off and at least walk the exit and entrance queues so you have some recovery time.

We have had re-rides on Pirates, Barnstormer and people mover at WDW several years ago.

Fond memories of riding Disneyland Space Mountain 4 times back in high school around 1980 or 81, the CM only made us run up and spin the turnstile to count for everyone riding.

We stayed on the People Mover for two loops during regular park hours in the past, and but otherwise I've only been able to re-ride without leaving the ride vehicle during extra hour events.

We've had numerous instances of getting off and getting immediately back on, though, which always seems so silly. 😄

Back when Disneyland was still open until 1 am everyday during the summer the Midnight to 1 am time was prime for stepping off a ride and right back on. I think our record was riding the Matterhorn Bobsleds 6 times in an hour.

During After Hours we have stayed on Splash Mountain and the Barnstormer. On our trip at the beginning of January this year we went on Dinosaur right after park opening and when we got back to the exit/entrance they asked if we wanted to ride again. We all said yes (except the 8 year old and his mom who did not like it, apparently). It was fun to be asked!

We were able to stay on Kraken and Mako at Sea World for multiple rides. They even let us change rows.

At animal kingdom there’s been a few times they asked us if we wanted to stay on. The roller coaster that spins you around and the dino ride the one that’s like dumbo.

A few years back we were at my at late night EMH (open until 1am) we rode Buzz several times in a row trying to beat each other’s score. Total blast the CMs were cheering us on
