Planning big family trip for October 2015. This last march took Amatrak for 1st time - new hubby doesn't enjoy flying so train was good option. we booked train last minute and paid a pretty penny. Anyone know how to save on amtrak? we did the sleeping accomdations - since it's 19+ hours (coming from Phillly)

promotional codes? discounts? etc any way to save would be helpful.

hi! I have an amtrak thread on here with loads of info-check it out:thumbsup2
there really aren't many 'deals' for the train. It cost more than flying with the rooms-no way around it.It keeps us on the ground though:)
The amtrak credit card will help you a bit.Read about it online and if you are one to use a card to pay bills and such, you can earn pts for free travel. It will take a lot of points for free room but it can be done!

Open a sapphire preferred account. The fee is waived the first year, you get 40,000 pts after spending $3,000. The points transfer one to one to your Amtrak Guest Rewards Account. We also do some shopping through the Amtrak shopping portal to gain extra points. We've gotten one-way free in a bedroom from Boston to Orlando and have another two zone bedroom trip this fall booked with points.
