I was just wondering if anyone has ever travelled by Amtrak from Buffalo to Orlando. (Kissimmee) I hate flying so I'm thinking of taking the train in August to Disney. I will be traveling solo but I will be meeting up with three girlfriends who will fly out of Maine. (There from the Maritimes) I will be the one who is renting the car and I don't know if there are car rental agencies located at or close to the train station.

Please help.

Even if you travelled from another place to Orlando can you give some info on the train station.

Thanks!

I haven't ever taken the train, but I do know (from everything I've read) that you should get off and on the train in Kissimmee rather than Orlando. Apparently the Orlando station isn't the greatest area.

We take the train every year from Philly to Orlando. The Orlando station is old but the area is fine. It's not in the best part of town (train stations never are) but we have never seen any problems there. Always a lot of people around and Amtrak employees. The Orlando station has a Hertz rent a car booth in the Amtrak station.
pm me if you have a specific questions.

We've used Amtrak for years, traveling from northeastern Ohio, to Kissimmee. Orlando is a large station where everyone going to Disney gets off. This makes this station highly congested. We detrain always in Kissimmee, its closer to WDW, cab fare is 38.00, about a 25 minute ride to the resorts in the MK. People detraining in Kissimmee total usually about 8-10, easy on, easy off, no fuss no muss. We had to leave last October through Orlando station due to hurricane Wilma and the Orlando station was a mad house. Tons of people, and only a 2 person window for info. People traveling coach, total looked to be over a hundred trying to board through the car doors, standing in the hot sun for at least 45 minutes before the train was in station and then waiting for about the same number detraining first. Never again, but we had no choice, glad we had a sleeper returning home, only a few people waiting to board, real quick for us.

As far as rental cars, there are none at the Kissimmee station but a short cab ride ought to get you to one or you can cab to WDW, and rent a car at the Swan and Dolphin. I also belive there are some close companies that will pick you up at the Kissimmee station to get your car.
