Amtrak and Luggage Question

Does anyone know if Im able to lock my luggage when on the train?

Are you asking if you can keep the bag locked or if there is a storage area on the train to lock the bag up?

As to storage on a long ride, I'm not sure.

If you are asking about keeping your bag locked, yes, I have not been asked to unlock it in the past.

I will check two bags and don't want them in my room. Can I lock the bags that are not in my room.

Also since Im in a roomette do I still pay for checked luggage?

There's nothing I can find in the Amtrak policy about locking it. I'm not sure why you would think it couldn't be locked; I'm sure I would lock it if i were checking a bag. If they feel the need to get into it, they can certainly break the lock.

You could call Amtrak. They'd know best.

It's still not clear if you're asking us if you can lock your luggage, or if you can lock up your luggage.

You can place a lock on your checked bags. The TSA has the right to come and inspect baggage on a train but rarely does so. If you want to be absolutely sure use TSA certified locks.

You are also allowed to lock any carry on luggage and should when leaving it alone while you go to a rest room or dining car.

yes, you can lock your bags, and you can also check up to two bags per person as well as bring bags along! they have a very easy baggage policy.

Yes, you can lock your bags if you carry them on or check them, we do this all the time and it is not a problem. If you are on A Viewliner train (east coast trains except the AutoTrain), there is a area in the roomette that extends out over the hallway where you can store to good sized bags, which is why we always carry on when we are on a Viewliner.
