My wife recently watched a video of the Kids Club/Oceaneers Club on the Disney Fantasy and she noted that there seemed to be a lot of screens for movies and games. While we are not completely anti-screen time, we would just feel bad having them to go to the kids club just to watch tv essentially. How much non screen entertainment is there?

Our kids are 5 and 3, so I assume they would be separate as 5-7 year olds are grouped together and 3-4 year olds are grouped together.

This is the video she watched:

DS was 7 on our first Disney cruise. We allowed very limited screen time at home. I would notice when we picked him up for meals or shows, etc. that we would find him in an area with screens. I would ask the counselors when I dropped him off if they could suggest to him some other things if they noticed he had been at a screen for a long time. A few days in, I realized that this was his vacation, too, and if he wanted to make a rollercoaster on a screen for hours, then he could.

When my kids went on the Wish at ages 6 and 9, it sounded like there weren't so much age groupings as there were different activities to choose from that appealed to different age groups. I just learned from the video that there was a distinct 3 and 4 age group, so I am not sure about their activities, but here's what I know about the 5 and up group....

My 9 year old spent a lot of time in the Star Wars area and said he got to the last level in the Marvel area, while my 6 year old brought home crafts, told about listening to stories with Belle, and was disappointed when we picked her up for dinner when a Disney Junior dance party was bout to begin. She did enjoy playing in the Marvel area, too, though, so it sounded like everything was more driven by kids' interest than specific age after age 5.

My older daughter (turned 9 on board our most recent cruise) lived in the marvel room and made roller coasters. My 4 year old was with the 3 and 4 year olds and they move as a group through the different rooms.

The screens are there most, if not all, of the time. However there are plenty of other activities offered as well. Some will be noted in your Navigator, others are simply available. Your 5-yr-old will be able to do what interests them; there is no particular 5-7 "group" though some activities are geared more towards that age range. There's coloring, crafts, dress-up, imaginative play, interactive play. On the Fantasy there is Andy's Room from Toy Story with a climbing structure and slide, Pixie Hollow which is Tinkerbell themed, Star Wars Command Post and Marvel Academy. It's unlikely they'll be encouraged to "just watch tv" though movies are an option. Also know that the Club is geared towards the younger set but is connected to the Lab and the kids can walk freely between the 2 spaces (as long as one isn't in Open House mode).

Your 3-yr-old will be kept with a preschool-aged group and they rotate through different rooms/activities.

I've heard that the orientation day in the kids club is all open and all the kids can go everything regardless of age but the younger kids might be disappointed because they can't go to the areas where they could for the orientation?

The first afternoon is all "open house" and parents, children, adults are all allowed to check out what is offered. I wouldn't really call it "orientation" though parents are welcome to ask the CMs any questions they may have. There may be activities running (the dance floor is one in particular) that don't always run during regular programming. That type of activity should be mentioned in the Navigator.

Again, the kids 5-10 can go anywhere within the Club/Lab at all times except if there is an open house in one. Open House times are offered at least once per day in each space, allowing parents to go with their kids or kids of any age to visit the space.
