AMEX Discounts

The AMEX discounts look comparable to the AAA discounts. I've seen it 2 ways - to get the AMEX discounts you have to pay for your WHOLE room on the card or I've also seen you can pay 2 nights accomodations on your card. Which is it? Thanks

I think it is just a couple of nights to get the "white glove treatment", which is basically a tote bag, a pin & lanyard and discounts in a trillion places that you have to look up before you go.
