America's Got Talent Finale

I couldn't hear what he was saying to Jackie when he realized he won, but it LOOKED like he was asking her if she was OK with it. I thought that was absolutely beautiful that he would try to comfort her before taking his spot in the limelight!

America got this right a million times over:love:

I completely agree. I thought PP was boring with a capital B and felt it was fitting for him to come in 4th place last night. Jackie is an extremely talented little girl but the thought of a 10 year old little girl headlining her own Vegas show gave me the creeps. I almost cried when Michael kept asking Jackie if she was okay....shows a lot of character that he put her feelings first.

I'm talking to people who share the same reality that I do. One where the Grim Reaper is an average at best, singer. Since you don't agree I'm not sure what your gaining by continuing to reply to my posts. And that goes for anyone who loves the Grim Reaper.

Then I guess that goes for me too! I loved Michael Grimm and thought the Prince sucked eggs. See? Everyone has different tastes and opinions and has the right to express them just as freely as you do.

Michael Grimm was one of my favorites from the beginning. With that being said, I really didn't want just a singer to win. I really was hoping that a variety act like Micheal? Grasso, Fighting Gravity or Prince Poppycock would.

I wasn't sure what kind of show an Opera singer could have in Vegas - but I think she can sing other songs too, so maybe part of a variety act. I don't think Grimm can carry a whole show on his own either, but he would make a good part of a show too.
Remember Britain's got Talent and Susan Boyle did not win first place? What was the name of the act that did? Were they ever heard from again? She is the one that has had the fame and the recording contracts.:cutie:

I have to respectufully disagree with you about PP. I loved him and was hoping for a PP/Michael showdown. I'd have been happy if he won, but I am THRILLED it was Michael. I liked Jackie, but felt she was far too young and inexperienced yet(her voice was great, but those arms flailing drove me bonky). Give her a few years and she will be amazing. I outright hated Fighting Gravity.

I was pretty happy with the final four.

I thought that Fighting Gravity would be the best as a Vegas act. They've got elements of Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group. I think with some professional choreography and lighting, they can be even better.

I tend to agree with Piers about Poppycock. I liked his act, but I thought the "Nessun Dorma" fell flat. His other acts were goofy and fun, but this was not. And I think his "schtick" can get a little old. I think there is only so much kabuki make-up and flamboyance before it is too much. When he's not playing the part, he seems like a nice guy, so I hope the comments to Piers about being a horse's rear end was just being in character. Better to be a gracious loser than to take pot shots on your way out.

Jackie has an amazing voice, no doubt. But I don't think Vegas is the right venue for opera. And her arm gestures got a bit annoying. But she is young and no doubt has a great future.

Michael Grimm is also a bit limited, but I think he uses what he has well. He's got a smokey, soulful quality to his voice - a bit of Joe Cocker, a bit of Percy Sledge. He had some good song choices too, but I'll admit, I do kind of like that blues and soul genre.

So that's my take. As for Michael Grimm winning it, I'm OK with that. I think he'll do better as a recording artist or in concert, though, than a regular Vegas act.

I am thrilled for Mr. Grimm!:thumbsup2 He is a class act ALL the way!

If I remember correctly, they performed one night on one of the results shows.

What a great season! It really was full of so much amazing talent!

I liked everyone in the final four and would have been happy with any of them winning. Although Jackie was the last person I wanted to see win.

Michael was my favorite from the first time I heard him sing. I have never really been into that type of music but his voice made me sit up and listen. I thought he was a very humble and genuine guy but I can see how that could come off as boring I guess. Even though he was my fav I was actually rooting for somebody else ;)

PoppyCock was such a fun act. Yes he was over the top but that is what made him the prince. He has a great voice and I really hope that he can have a career maybe outside of the Poppycock character on broadway or something.

Jackie was an addition to a season that was so chock full of talent that her coming in late might have hurt her a bit. I don't deny that she had a great voice and a future as an opera singer but I did not think she belonged in Vegas. So 2nd place was a favor to her.

Fighting Gravity was the best talent/variety act in the show. They had a unique act and consistently put it together week after week. I really wanted them to win as I would have absolutely have paid to see them in Vegas. I hope they get a show on the strip regardless because it will be neat to see what they can do with a bit of professional help and equipment.

I cant wait for next season :thumbsup2

Who would go see Michael Grimm sing in Vegas? Probably about 5 people and they all happen to be on this board right now. Grimm doesn't belong inside a casino, he should be standing in front of one holding his hat out for change.

Wow, you are really taking this hard. Don't worry about Michael...he's going to do just fine. :goodvibes

That's easy Diversity won! Though personally I wanted Stavros Flatley to win haha!

Yes I'm upset.. I wasted a summer watching an average singer win a million bucks.. it's really awful. Pathetic that this guy won.

It's a good thing you're not an entertainment manager or promoter.

BTW..the million is really a $300k one time payment or $25k over 40 years. The real prize is the publicity. If the other finalist are worthy, the "million $$" is chump change.

Really? I thought Skinner winning last year was a joke and I was right.. dude hasn't done anything since. I haven't even heard his name mentioned once in the media.

Getting your big shot...doesn't guarantee squat. There are many factors involved in success. Once you reach, "the big time".. it's tough to stay there. You'd be surprised how many "stars" are struggling. The economy is bad, so live venues have been hit hard and downloads hurt CD sales....won't even get into other merchandise. Many, if not most, most casino tickets are comp. Lack of gambling funds affect show attendance. The hard ticket prices don't come close to paying for the talent. The entertainment industry is hurting and has been for quite a while.

BTW...you keep talking about Skinner. I'm referring to Michael Grimm. Two different people.;)

I keep mentioning Skinner because last year everyone thought he was the next big thing! And I'm willing to bet a few of you who are big Michael Grimm fans LOVED Kevin Skinner as well. They have similar personalities.

Sorry to burst your bubble but nope I do not care for Kevin Skinner. When I don't like an actor, singer or whatever I do not waste my time and energy posting about my hatred about it over and over again like you have done here. You definately take this way too personally. You may want to go talk to someone about your anger issues as that is not very healthy:hug:

I'm not a fan of his, but this is what he's up to.

Which translates into "pretty much nothing." Or stated differently, those making the point about how dismal the track record of the masses is in picking truly noteworthy, breathrough talent are 100% correct.

Shows like AGT exemplify the loss that has come from the death of the A&R (artist and repretory) function that used to exist at the big record companies. A&R staff -- made up of the sharpest scouts and most seasoned producers -- scoured the landscape for budding talent, and when they found it, signed 'em and them spent time -- often years -- letting that "wine" they'd purchased mature before expecting payback.

Those days are long gone. The corporate shells that replaced the labels now focuses on finding fresh young pretty things, rushing 'em into the studio with one or at best two good numbers and then throwing them to the wind, where they quickly perish once the gloss of that one "hit" wears off. There's absolutely no focus anymore on identifying and nurturing real talent. It's all about immediate gratification.

So what? Well let's look at one case history of a fellow named...Bruce Springsteen.

"The Boss" started as an entertaining but rough bar act (e.g., wouldn't have lasted 10 minutes on any sort of AGT type program), but was noticed and picked up by some visionary people in Columbia's A&R group in 1972.

They were patient and invested in letting the scruffy guy from NJ develop in the studio, not blowing a gasket about the fact his first two albums got critical acclaim but went nowhere - because he was growing and getting better as an artist in the process.

Columbia continued being patient as Springsteen recorded his third try at an LP, called "Born To Run," letting him spend six months alone on just the title track (that would NEVER happen today. Repeat, never, never, NEVER).

And on August 25, 1975 Columbia finally got the payoff they'd been waiting for:

Sadly, this sort of thing doesn't happen anymore.

And AGT is not a replacement.
