To be fair, the /s slang kind of became more of a Gen Z thing than Gen Y. Most of my Gen Y friends think the /s thing is kind of dumb. If you are being sarcastic, just write out the word. Just my opinion.

Just write out the word "sarcastic"? The whole reason for using /s was so that people could use sarcasm without having to write out that they were being sarcastic. The /s notation is still used on every board that I frequent. If you have to directly tell somebody you are being sarcastic then your words lose some of the edge they would have had. I don't even know what that would look like.

Why would you want to write something longer? Do you also choose to write "minutes" instead of "mins." or "kilometres/kilometers" instead of "km" or sister-in-law in place of SIL?

So, just to be clear, you do not use abbreviations for things, so if you were writing about the weather, you would use Fahrenheit in full, lest somebody get confused and think you meant fluoride instead?

Not all abbreviations. Just things that are subjective to not being cut and dry clear. Some abbreviations have double meanings that weren’t a thing 10-20 years ago.

Hey, don't spoof on the Jamaican bobsledders (or Eddy the Eagle). I left home at 19 and moved to Calgary all those years ago specifically to be part of the Winter '88 scene and it was like nothing any Olympics has delivered, before or since. Those memories are precious to all of us here.

What are you "yaying" about? I thought you loved winter? And comparing your current conditions to ours with the humidity, I'm feeling your damp chill down into my bones just thinking about it. Same thing with heat in the summer - I'd rather "air fry" than "steam bake".

You made me (laugh out loud) twice at 6:30am!!!

You make a good point. When I read stuff like this, " With MLS starting soon..." the first "MLS" that pops into my brain every time is "Multiple Listing Service" from real estate. Perhaps spelling this stuff out every single time so people don't have to use context clues to infer what is being discussed would be worth it.

Fair warning...a mated (I assume) pair of Canadian geese flew over our house honking this morning, heading NORTH!!! They are either very optimistic geese or they know something we don't know about winter being over. Forget the groundhog. Geese heading north is the indicator I watch.

Total change of topic, but isn't animal migration fascinating?!? For me, one of the most amazing is Monarch butterflies coming to Canada (all regions of Canada, too) from their birthplaces in Mexico.

Now you’ve returned the favour by making me laugh and the early hour of 1:10 PM

WELL, it was more than a squeak than a laugh. I have avoided colds since Covid started but I now have an awful one. I’ve tested, and it’s negative, so that’s a positive.

I’m having surgery in two weeks so I guess it’s good I am getting it now, and should be over it by then. Yesterday my throat was so, so scratchy and sore. Today, no sore throat but my voice is gone, gone, gone, hence the squeak for a laugh.
