For those who might have a loyalist ancestor (in America we call them Tory/Tories):

They are lineage organizations based on events in the 17th and 18th centuries.I don’t even know what that means so it’s not a big deal to me.
Well my ancestors are technically “Canadian” as my paternal grandmother’s & grandfather’s families were among the first “Cajuns” to come to Louisiana from Nova ScotiaFor those who are French Canadian might find this interesting:

So I just heard NHL is removing themselves from the Olympics![]()
Completely shut down until the New Year as of yesterday’s news. They are having A LOT of Covid issues in the NHL right now.
Correct, I mentioned that in my other comment. Just a shame because they weren't in the 2018 one. But it does start to get on people's minds the other athletes and IOC regarding their plan. They are having A LOT of Covid issues in the NHL right now.
Actually in America, we learn about it. But it should also be said that many in the northern 13 colonies were opposed to slavery. There were free blacks who fought in the American army and also some some slaves in the northern colonies that were granted freedom for their service. Some of the southern slaves were granted freedom as well. One example is James Armistead (though delayed). Virginia put a law in place for blacks who fought for the Americans in place to free them. https://edu.lva.virginia.gov/dbva/files/original/966df4eb19ba50f6c7af6e1e798eebd0.jpgIf anyone is interested in a beautiful piece of our shared history, I urge you to look up a TV mini-series called the Book of Negroes.
It is a little known fact that King Georg’s army enlisted every runaway slave they could find to fight for the British in the Revolutionary War. They were promised emancipation upon England’s victory. Well, that didn’t happen and when the British were expelled after the Paris treaties, the British scrambled feverishly to get as many former slaves out of America as possible. Few made it all the way back to England and then on to Africa, but thousands were deposited in British colonies in Nova Scotia. Their descendants are a large population there to this day.![]()
Have you done genealogy from those bloodlines? I would think that must be very interesting history to explore.Well my ancestors are technically “Canadian” as my paternal grandmother’s & grandfather’s families were among the first “Cajuns” to come to Louisiana from Nova Scotia.
Is that based on the Lawrence Hill book?If anyone is interested in a beautiful piece of our shared history, I urge you to look up a TV mini-series called the Book of Negroes.

Yes. What a wonderful piece; and although I'm only assuming it's historical accuracy, it was new and very interesting information to me.Is that based on the Lawrence Hill book?

I’m good at genealogy. If you would like some tips, let me know. Ancestry.com has some great resources when it comes to Acadian/French-Spanish Louisiana historical ancestry.Yeah my sister started some. Kinda hit a dead end after a few generations.

Better health. Certainly covid is part of that. But 2021 was a year I lost a lot of friends who literally just didn't wake up in the morning. No known health issues. None of them from covid. What are Canadians/Americans hopes for their country going into 2022?
