Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

Do Canadians eat moose meat or is that just a myth? We eat deer in the USA so that’s why I ask.

The average American hockey fan can. We hear it enough 😀. Heck, a huge number can even sing it in French.

Yes! Reminds me of my friend from Boston, thick accent and all. Thanks to hockey games he can sing the Canadian national anthem and he does that one French verse with perfection lol. I complimented him on his perfect French enunciation and he said "Yeah, too bad I don't know what the **** I'm saying". :rotfl2:

Do Canadians take offense to Weird Al’s Canadian Idiot song or just laugh it off? Green Day’s American Idiot song mostly gets laughs from Americans.

No, we don’t take offence.

Not in the Toronto area.. but there is one in Vancouver

And The Earl of Sandwich.. only 2 locations - Winnipeg and Edmonton 🙁

We have an Earl of Sandwich? Shows how much I pay attention lol

Do most Canadians often say “Eh” a lot or is that a stereotype?

We say it, but not as much as you’d think

I’m actually surprised Canadians seem to have less questions for Americans in this thread than the Americans do for Canadians. Interesting. 🤔🙂🇺🇸🤝🇨🇦

Oh, I have a ton of questions, but they’d get me major points, if not banned. So, I’m playing nice.

Oh I know what they are they just weren't that good to us personally but since we have none in our region and they were talked about a lot we had to try them. Not knocking the place itself, it's like other places sometimes you really like the place sometimes you don't

There are places that have a great reputation for more than just the food. The way they treat their employees at In-N-Out is well known. Another place with a similar reputation is Dick's Drive-In in and around Seattle. They have this stellar reputation for offer decent wages with benefits, along with educational opportunities like scholarships. And the first time I went to one the prices were ridiculously low - as in cheaper than McDonald's. But I had it and it was frankly meh. But it was cheap, and that goes a long way. But I've been there more recently and I'm wondering what happened to the prices.

Are most of your questions political/policy based or just how our government system works?

I enjoy going to the Canadian pavilion but I’m curious if Canadians enjoy the American pavilion as well (or the Hall of Presidents)?

Yep

It's been addressed several times already, but I also wanted to chime in to say you are wrong. Sometimes, it's good to listen to those of us who actually know.
Exactly what my cousins say when I send them a link to a DIS thread on Canada. I will say the ones living in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan just laugh it off, but two in Ottawa kind of question some of the "Canadian" responses.

I love the Hall of Presidents/American Pavilion/Voices of Liberty. :)
I mostly bypass the Canadian Pavillon. It’s my least favourite country in WS.

They are political as in how could you....... which would be a waste of time and would definitely cause things to go off track. Plus, I'm changing no ones mind and no one is changing mine, so no point rehashing the same old conversations.

Who exactly are you accusing of not being Canadian while claiming to be. When you make an accusation, its necessary to provide proof or at least back it up somehow. I'm very curious as whom you deem are fake Canadians.

Somebody on a previous page mentioned BBQ chains in the US. There's no worthwhile national American BBQ chain in the US. BBQ in the US is often very regional. For example, Texas BBQ is different from Kansas City BBQ, which is different from Carolina BBQ.

Wherever you happen to be in the US, just do an Internet search for the best BBQ joint in whichever city you want and then go there...and the chances are that it'll be better than any chain BBQ place.

Do you guys have Hooters up there? That's a wonderful family treat the whole family, especially dad, can enjoy!!

Great chicken wings.

Do most Canadians often say “Eh” a lot or is that a stereotype?

Very much a stereotype but used more in the west than east.

Moose, deer, beer, caribou and elk.

Again, that says something about your relatives.

Sure I love Voices of Liberty or whatever the singing group is called.

we use to have a great local BBQ place here but it closed. Only chain ones now.
