Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

I feel it is our duty as the Queen's loyal subjects, to discuss her death. Godspeed Elizabeth Regina. :littleangel:

She visited Canada many times. Have any of us ever actually seen her in person? I have not, although she visited Alberta, specifically Edmonton and Calgary, quite a few times and even once went to the remote, northern city nearest to my hometown.

I actually have and even spoke with her! She came to Ottawa in 1982 and my sister and I waited for hours at Parliament Hill to see her. When she walked by, she asked us if we had been waiting very long and when we told her that we had been there for a few hours she said “You’ve waited that long to see me? How lovely!”

I was 10 at the time and still remember it so clearly.

First off, thanks for stealing my question lol

I saw the Queen from quite a distance when she visited Winnipeg back in 1884.

When the Pope came, around the same time frame I remember waiting in a parade route to see him. We waited forever but we got to see him in his Popemobile lol

How old are you…1884….lol

Never saw the Queen in person but she did visit our town .

I remember visiting a stone where the Pope did a mass? When on vacation one year out West. My daughter is very religious and my husband found this for her. Have a picture somewhere of this .2333E47D-C360-4B40-A0F9-54939B13154A.jpeg

She was pretty old, but not that old. :scratchin And it seems you've been playing coy on some of Buzz's early American history posts. Since you were probably there, maybe you could tell us all about it. :rotfl:

I saw her once. I was in a school choir. We sang for her and Prince Phillip. It was quite a memory for me. Very special opportunity.

She lived a long life and I feel like she tried to do her best in a rapidly changing world in a role that she was thrust into. I'm glad she ruled up to her last day and didn't have to step down. May she rest in peace.

I did not meet the Queen in person, however she did come to visit a farm that was super close to where I grew up (as in, you could see it from our road). It was before I was born, but the daughter of the woman who hosted her and Phillip wrote an article all about it and it was published in Reader's Digest. The tea set with wheat sheaves and the (unwashed) cup the Queen used, held a place of prominence in their home. I saw it once when visiting there, but they have since donated it to the museum in Moose Jaw, where everyone can view it in the exhibit of Moose Jaw's history. They also keep a supply of the Reader's Digest article in a holder next to it, which people can take home to read.

The Queen is Coming to Tea!

Looks like they enjoyed visiting farms - I *love* picture of them sitting in lawn chairs.

36 minutes til Saturday! Will my question be one for the ages? Wait and see….
Nudge Nudge Nudge...

"@prairie_girl? Are you up??? It's Saturday!!! Can we have our question now??"

(If it were me, I would have been stressing all week about what I was going to write, still not had anything definite at midnight, gone to sleep, hoping a really amazing question would reveal itself to me in a dream, tossed and turned as my brain worked on the problem, only to wake up disappointed when a superior question did not miraculously pop into my head by morning, and then figured that Saturday is 24 hours and the people can just wait a little longer.)

You’re definitely on the right path.
