American Products Being Boycotted

Golly gee whillikers those French people are brave in the face of an unarmed McDonald's, aren't they?

I have a feeling the US companies will be able to survive any boycott in France and Germany.

I like to buy American as much as possible....and...I like to go shopping!!!

It's funny that I saw this thread. I headed over to Pier 1 to kill time while getting my oil changed today. I found myself looking to see where the items were made. "Indonesia, nope", "China, nope", etc.......

I didn't buy anything.

I keep wondering though, if we all did what dvcreg did, wouldn't Pier One go out of business, or suffer cutbacks in the form of employees who are American citizens?

Anyone want to bet if they'll boycott our aid when this is over? I just decided to go to McDonald's for lunch tomorrow.

I've heard repeatedly that the govt. has cautioned Americans in Indonesia that they may be at risk. Why on earth would I want to support them?

There are plenty of countries that Pier One or any store can buy from. I sincerely doubt that my not buying a cha-chi is going to shut them down.

I'm simply choosing to not purchase merchandise from countries that do not support mine.

I understand your sentiments. I just wondered about the trickle down effect, that's all....I just wondered.

Yup, It was indeed a brave and daring thing to do. After all, you never know when the Hamburglar or Grimace might turn violent and attack the crowd!!!

Then they could stock their shelves with interesting American and British items. There are 48 countries that support our efforts and are on board. We could sell those items.

What I find amusing is all those companies are locally owned and operated. So, by boycotting them they are hurting only their economy and their friends and neighbors that are emplyed there.

Oh well, is what I say. 6 months from now, it'll be back to normal after all the protesters realize what the Iraqis have had to live with. Iraqis couldn't do protests like this in Iraq without the threat of death.

Life goes on.

It will be interesting to see how long France, Germany, et al can live without their Marlborough's. I think all of Europe smokes.

Remind me not to go there - I kind of like breathing. ;)

How is Japan dealing with all of this? I mean, I don't care if they oppose the war as long as they're not being rude and nasty about it like some other places.

I got rid of my French perfume and found a really great perfume from Japan. Please tell me I can keep it! :D

That's exactly what Wishydoo was asking when she asked her question. Wishydoo, the answer is yes. Same with when people boycott any of the countries in Epcot. It affects Disney, not the countries that host the exhibits there.

I agree with you, Grinningghost. I say, "let them boycott"! We're not as "soft" and "fragile" as many countries think we are. I think when Americans feel an injustice has been done to their country, their resolve is very formidable!

I think they should all uninstall any Microsoft product on their computer! Immediately!

In regards to Pier 1... Their last name is "Imports"

Sometimes you guys are so funny. You certainly can dish it out but you really have a hard time taking it.:p
