American Idol!!

The one I really didn't like last night was Julia. Her dance moves were so grade school, or Brady Bunch,as someone else put it. You know, there is more places to go on the stage then just the very middle. I also didn't like her attitude with Simon once again.

I saw Rickey's mouth moving at the beginning of his song, I too think it was a microphone issue.

Clay was fantastic, except the outfit. I really liked Ruben, Kimberly (blonde), Trenyce and even Carmen. The first Kimberly could have done better, but I still love her voice and her style. I was ROFL at Simons comment about the Burger King commericial though.

My two faves are Josh and Clay. I'm partial to Josh though - gottal go for that Marine.

I think that the blond Kimberly is good and has quite a stage presence, but there's just something about her that rubs me the wrong way.

Charles Grigsby is a goner (or Julia??). . .least pizzazz of the bunch--although I think they all did better than "ok" to coin Simon's fave phrase.

It was a very tough choice for us last night but we went with Clay & Josh although Trenyce and Ricky were also very good--even the songwriter agreed! If Ricky had truly missed his cue, Simon would have been all over him like fleas on a dog. The microphone was clearly malfunctioning--a production vs performance issue.

Blonde Kimberly drives me crazy--is she just arrogant? What's up with her "overprotective" nature toward her "little" sister. . she's not her Mom? I just don't like her. . .not sure why. . .and I'll bet she rubs "America" the wrong way too--don't expect her to end up a winner because of the personality thing.

I really don't get the Ruben craze either? He sounds more as if he's "speaking" the lyrics rather than singing them. My husband and I just look at each other and wonder what the excitement is all about? Ditto Cory--he's not impressed me at any point.

The rest of the group are just a "pack" for me at this point--they don't make much of an impression one way or the other. That could be a good thing--flying under the radar so to speak. Good show last night, can't wait to find out tonight who's getting the heave ho.

I LOVED Clay!!! To tell you the truth, I didn't even noticed what he had on, his stage presence was just overwhelming to me! As the guest judge (sorry, I can't remember his name!) said, he looks like he's been doing this forever! He kind of reminds me of a young Barry Manilow, you know kind of geeky, but what a voice and what an entertainer!! I want him to take it all!!

I also really liked Trenyce and Ruben, I love Trenyce's voice, but her look I don't like sometimes, although I liked her in a hat last night, she looks good in hats, although maybe not that one in particular. I wish Ruben would wear something other than his area code, though!! We've all got the point, Birmingham IS represented!

I also think that Rickey's mike wasn't working at the beginning, it did look like he was singing. And Julia, what is up with that dance? 1-2, 1-2, left, right, left, right.

I thought all the performers really did an excellent job. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Carmen did--glad to see she is improving! Clay was FANTASTIC! He's still my favorite. I also thought Josh and Trenyce did great. The first Kimberly did allright--I just don't think her song was well-suited to showing off her great voice. I hope she makes it to the next round. I don't much care for Julia either, but I can't quite put my finger on why. Ruben did well, and he seems like a really nice, fun guy, but I don't think he was as awesome as the judges seemed to think. I voted for Clay, Josh, and Kimberley #1 (mostly because I want to see more of what she can do).

Does anyone find it odd that Simon tells Josh and Vanessa they have to lose weight, but say nothing to Ruben? After the show, I call my daughter to talk about the show and she made that observation.

I didn't hear anyone mention Vanessa. I love her personality and she did a great job yesterday. I'd like to understand what the difference is between being a great entertainer (as Simon said) and being an American Idol. Not to shabby being compared to Bette Midler, I say.

My favorites are Josh, Vanessa, Clay and Ruben.

everytime he opens his mouth..the singing voice that comes out of it amazes me!!!!!..I was afraid that the MoTown "theme" would throw him off..but it didn't..he has been my favorite since the beginning and I am rooting for him to make it to the final 5..Ruben, Carmen, and Trenyce were also very good last nite..but as far as I am concerned, Ricky, Corey, both Kimberley's..and Charles can get the boot anytime..and there is something I really don't like about Julia..just can't put my finger on it!

I voted for Josh and Clay. I can't stand that blonde Kimberly and Corey isn't that good. I don't see what the judges see.

Gometros, I'm glad you mentioned the weight issue not being mentioned to Ruben. My husband and I talked about that last night. I'm also with many other about the whole Julia thing. She seems fake but there's just something else. Vanessa is starting to slowly annoy me.

Did Ricky (aka Hercules) completely miss the start of his song? None of the judges said anything which really surprised me.

Nope. It was definitely a sound problem. In fact, a second before he started I noticed 2 short lapses in the sound. I was just starting to say, "This isn't good, we need sound", when it came back on.
I was most impressed with Trynyce last night, all though she hasn't been one of my faves. I also loved Clay, Josh, and Carmen. Ricky was very good, followed by Julia (her singing, not her dancing, LOL!), Kimberly, Vanessa (love her but didn't think she was as good last night),and ditto for Reuben. I didn't care for Corey or Charles, but I thought the worst was the 1st Kimberly. She sounded better in the clips they showed before she sang! Her voice is too low for that song, and she didn't have enough range, IMHO. I think either she, Charles or Corey should be voted off.
I also find the Josh/Reuben weight thing very funny. I suspect the judges feel that Reuben's size is part of his presence. That said, I don't know what Simon was talking about. I don't think Josh needs to loose a pound, he looks fine just the way he is!

(I would not know about this personally ) I also was surprised to hear that she had once had sung professionally. I thought this was for novices....

That weight comment always makes me mad. It's types in the business like Simon who keep trying to influence people who look FINE the way they are to lose weight who create the issues "normal" people have with themselves, and send off young girls to anorexia and bulimia. That, together with his "pop stars should be a little wild" comment, just REALLY bugged me. Yeah, good image to show to your young audience. I can deal with his criticism of their singing and presentation, but that other stuff needs to go.

I'm actually surprised he didn't pick on Julia's little side-to-side Brady Bunch stepping. She definitely needed to just let go, but couldn't. She bugs me anyway, so I'll be happy to see her go, along with Corey and the blonde Kimberly, who has a great voice, but I just don't "like" her at all.

I think that could be the case, because I think she is very talented, far and away more talented than most of the contestants. Plus she seems like she has a great personality, I can't figure out what people don't like about her, other than the fact that she seems to have the whole package.

I felt bad for Vanessa when they gave her that obnoxious scripted line. I was so glad when the host pointed out that they made her say it - I had already turned to dh and said "they made her say that - that wasn't her style!" - Didn't like her shirt!

I'm not crazy about Julia either, but she sang well.

I'm glad someone else feels Rueben is speaking. I think he has a great voice but I get really bored with his presentation.

I do think blond Kimberly has an unfair advantage. For those who missed it - she sang in a show in Branson,MO every day for 3 1/2 years. I'm sure most of the contestants have done some performing, but not that amount!

Also noticed the problem with Ricky's mike and saw him singing.

It's so fun having people to dish with about this!

It's true blonde Kimberly Caldwell had performed on stage before, but as the photos showed, it was when she was much, much younger. She then gave up singing for years and now wants to try to start again.

I thought Kimberly Locke (the 1st Kimberly) did not give a good performance and remember this is the first time she did not perform "Over the Rainbow." I guess that's why she only sang that one song, it's her best.

I vote Kimberly Locke goes first or else Charles Grigsby. I like him, but I thought his performance was poor last night.

And, I still have yet to see why all of the judges love Corey.

Still love Clay, Ruben, Vanessa, Trenyce (sp!) and Joshua.

I thought so too, But then remembered she did a knock down duet with Frenchie of Band of Gold. I liked Kimberly and hope she makes it for at least one more week to se if she can raise it back up once more.

Does anyone have any idea which show? I went to college in Branson and saw lots of the shows (we always got in free and would go to them when there was nothing else to do ) and it would probably be around the right time frame. I am curious if I every saw her.

I have to completely disagree about Carmen! I think she's TERRIBLE! My DD and I couldn't believe it when she sang last week after Simon picked her as his wild card pick. She sang a little better than that last night, but not by much. She's flat in a lot of her notes and she's very average.

Clay, as usual, was phenomenal! I hope he goes far in this competition.

Anyone else notice Simon's wardrobe? Why does he always wear those T-shirts? Last night's looked like he had just an undershirt on! You would think he'd have a shirt with a collar from time to time.
