American Idol Thread

I know what you mean but interchanging Brooke and Jason. He may not be the best singer there but I think he is a wonderful charismatic person. Brooke, I feel, over acts every song she sings. I don't find her believable at all. I guess I just don't like the drama and that is probably why I do like Jason.

Every song has to be so dang emotional for her. The 'I think I'm going to cry' look is wearing on me. :sad2:

I haven't read through everything, so forgive me if this has been discussed....is someone getting kicked off tonight? If I remember, didn't they say last year, oh we can't kick anyone off on this great night of giving, and just total the two weeks of votes?
Maybe I am totally off, just can't remember...thanks

No one will be kicked off tonight. Tomorrow night will be elimination night.

They did do that last year, but this year they have said the elimination will happen on Thursday.

I just want to start off by saying I loved Jason last night - that arrangement of Somewhere over the Rainbow is awesome.I knew I had heard it on a commercial but didn't remember which one. Thanks. I don't think it would have been right for him to sing it the original way. I was not able to get through on his number though - hopefully that is a good sign that his line was jammed with voters. (can't believe we have to wait another night to find out who is going home)

As far as David Cook - he is DH's favorite but last night was not a good night for him - the song choice was not great. And David A. - can't say I like him. Last night was just mediocre and the judges fell all over him - like it was the most awesome performance ever. I just don't understand it all.

And for those that keep saying Carly should cover up her arm - why??? She has just as much right to wear a sleeveless shirt as anyone else. So why she should be covered up because she has a tattoo - are other's offended by it??
Isn't that what this country is about - freedom and I think that would include freedom to have tattoos and show them off and as long as she isn't showing off her private parts she should be free to do as she pleases. And for what its worth - that is not a FULL sleeve - a full sleeve would be her whole arm not just her upper arm.

Thank you TiggerPiglet & elgerber! I figured I had missed something. I will have to check the time on Thursday...The Office is BACK! :thumbsup2

I think David Cook chose that song because in some of the lyrics it says, "I wish there was no such thing as cancer"...and given what his family is going through, that may have been part of his "inspiration"...I agree it was not his greatest night, but I also thought his mike was a little off. He is my fave...hope he does well!

I'm surprised at how many people aren't familiar with Jason's ukelele version of somewhere over the rainbow.
I think I remember hearing it as part of a television commercial... :confused3

They should be fair to all the contestants and give them equal time!
Arguably, letting contestants talk after the judges speak is a detriment to the contestants. Not letting contestants speak would therefore be the advantage.

I think, at this point, people would read too much negatively into Carly wearing sleeves. Her tattoo is truly part of her, evidently in more than just one way. For Carly to cover the tattoos up would be like Kristy singing heavy metal.

That's what I thought also...singing the song for his brother maybe? The sound system did seem off during his song. I got about 50 votes in for him. I sure hope he's not in the bottom 3.

Was anyone else waiting for Paula to pop right out of her dress last night? :rotfl2: I'm thinking 'the girls" were feeling like this :crowded:

Okay, I just got to watch last night's show! I've missed the last two weeks!:sad1:

Anyway, I thought it was a really good show. I thought I was in an alternate universe because I actually like Kristy Lee Cook's performance better than David Cook's. I think Jason was my favorite, and Syesha was my least favorite. Overall, I think everyone was did a good job!

I'm also surprised at how many aren't familiar with Iz K.'s version of "Over the Rainbow". It's been on commercials, Meet Joe Black, and it's the song that played at the end of the ER episode when Dr. Green dies. It's also the song we played during the slideshow at my son's memorial service. The song is near and dear to me, and while Iz's version will always be my favorite, I loved Jason's version too! The thing with Jason is that he doesn't seem very comfortable speaking or getting critiqued (good or bad). He seems more at ease in front of the microphone, and then as soon as he's done performing it's like he wants to just slink off the stage. I think that's what's hurting his popularity. He's a bit of an oddball, but so are lots of famous singers!

What's the deal with everyone hating on Carly's tattoos? I don't even notice them, but it's who she is. I love her voice, but she always looks so angry when she sings.

Brooke - love her voice too, but what's the deal with being teary eyed after every performance? Good grief.

David C. - did not like his performance last night. Loved the scruff on his face though!

MJ - I liked his performance and he's still my favorite to win! Out of all the contestants, I think he looks the most comfortable on stage.

David A. - I really like this guy, but the constant squinting and aw shucks look on his face is starting to grate on my nerves!

Syesha - this girl can sing anything, but she needs to stop smiling so huge through her songs so much. I think that's what bugs me about her. And lose the neck scarves already!

Kristy - not a big fan. "Anyway" by Martina is one of my favorite songs, and while she sang it good, it was just ok. It would have been nice for her to put her own spin on it instead of singing it exactly like Martina. There's not anything super memorable about her!

No kidding! I told my DH "that *has* to hurt"!! :confused3

:confused3 It was a sincere question, the way you posted about how wonderful she was I thought that maybe you knew her personally. Not sure why you responded like that.
Sorry but I believe the way I took it was the way it was meant. My mistake was I should have said Brooke seems very nice. I don't think any real harm was done. My reply was just meant to be funny.

Agree with everything you said...

Man, Steph, everytime you mention your son I just cry... I, too, buried a son and I wish no one knew that pain. And you never forget the song that was sung, what a beautiful song to play for him.

My son's song was Amazing Grace, but NOT by Kristy Lee Cook...:scared: Everytime I hear it, I cry....
