American Idol - the US version of Pop Idol..

We saw the American equivalent of Pop Idol with Simon Callow whilst in Canada ( Nigel Lithgoe is a producer or director), it was fascinating!! We were amazed at how nice Simon Callow was to the performers! He gets a lot of stick from the audience as well as one of his fellow judges - and the performers themselves are quite outspoken - but really, we were hoping he'd be more honest and tell people that were singing way beyond their ability that they just wouldn't cut it.

They are at the finalist stage where one person with the lowest phone vote gets the boot each week.

Still! Great fun and a couple of very talented artists - we'll be checking the website for the winners and losers.

Anyone else see it when they went to USA?

We watched this when we were in Orlando in July. I thought that the performers were much more 'up themselves' than the UK lot - they really don't care what the judges say as they all think they are the best anyway.

Simon Cowell was his usual self although alot of his sarcastic comments went over the heads of the Americans - they just don't get sarcasm!! I think he may have notched up the 'Evil Simon' persona for the americans as he seemed to have become a caricature of himself - just being nasty for the effect and publicity in the US without showing that he can be, if not nice, then at least a fair judge.
