American Idol Season 9

Aaron Kelly – “Fly me to the Moon”
Casey James – “Blue Skies” – Was really good! – Wasn’t quite sure what to do with his hands.
Crystal Bowersox – “Summer Wind” – Amazing, beautiful outfit
Mike Lynche – “The Way You Look Tonight”
Lee DeWyze – “That’s Life” – Starts off sitting on a stool – REALLY COOL

Harry is on stage with them playing piano and conducting the band. He’s funny–great with the kids
Everyone dressed up, wearing ties. Mike was wearing a rocker chain. Casey and Mike sit with Ryan.
Everything is in big band style, but kids manage to make the songs their own. Didn’t here any pitch issues.

I just saw the spoilers on mjsbigblog too, and I came on here to weigh in on what I think of them.


I'll mix the order up so I won't spoil it for anyone else lol.


Casey - his choice, I haven't actually heard this one before. I listened to it on youtube, and afterwards, I think he might be alright with it. Depends on how he handles his nerves since APPARENTLY no guitars are allowed this week.

Lee - I like this song, ESPECIALLY the ending, and I hope he does a little extra with it. Changing the notes at the end to make it more epic would be PERFECT IMO, and he could pull it off for sure. I just hope he doesn't do that thing where he steps away from the mic long before he finishes singing. He tends to do that A LOT!

Crystal - I only hope she doesn't make this song boring. Last week she did that her song choice, and IMO she's been that way lately PERIOD, and with this song, she could easily do it again. If she nails it, it'll be a great performance by a great performer, and I won't be so bitter at her anymore.

Aaron - Oh boy, this song is a fave with many people, and it's hard for me to see how Aaron can differentiate himself from the THOUSANDS of renditions of this song. (even if there aren't many renditions, it's a VERY popular song). Let's hope he does something good with it.

Mike - again, another fan favorite, and I get the feeling he's going to put a soulful spin on it. While it's a song that can work with that, I'm getting a little bored with him trying so hard....he's just not doing it for me. Maybe he'll change up this song drastically....in a good way?

is that really a rule?? that's awesome lol. i guess the judges and producers were getting sick of the same 'ole same 'ole with them using guitars every week.

Yup. LA Times reported it, and Siobhan said it was the rule when she was on that "If I Can Dream" show. It wasn't the producers' idea though. Apparently Harry Connick Jr. wanted it that way....it's a big-band thing I think.

So yeah, no instruments at all....I keep thinking back to 'guitar' though. It's been used WAYYYYYY too much this season, and I'm starting to think it's becoming a crutch for some contestants.

Yup. LA Times reported it, and Siobhan said it was the rule when she was on that "If I Can Dream" show. It wasn't the producers' idea though. Apparently Harry Connick Jr. wanted it that way....it's a big-band thing I think.

So yeah, no instruments at all....I keep thinking back to 'guitar' though. It's been used WAYYYYYY too much this season, and I'm starting to think it's becoming a crutch for some contestants.

yeah it really has been. i think the piano was only used....once?? and the guitar has been used every week this season. that's gotta be a record or something.

I wish I could be.....the closest tour stop he has is in AC, and with the cost of gas, the tickets (which would be over $130 plus tax for 2 of us), and the travel, we just can't afford it. We were lucky to afford Disney this year!
