Me too. I'm a lot bored with the seaon,the judges,and the boring auditions. This used to be my favorite part,the auditions. I'm sure next week will be much better....I hope!

I think tonight is just random auditions that they haven't shown yet. Probably since now that Hollywood week is filmed, they can go back in and make sure they show some of the ones that made an impact/advanced that previously weren't shown is my guess.

Hadn't thought of that, but *of course*, it makes so much sense!

It sounds like they keep promoting the best singers. So we watched all these weeks for the worst and the so-so singers?

The worst of the worst, they wasted so much time. I like the old format better.

No, you're right, it was boring and not because they showed so much of the good singers, but to me because the viewers didn't get any sense of continuity. It was a mish-mash, clearly jumping from one city to another, with a completely different set of judges...felt very odd to me. I wish they would have shown many more of the people who went through (with my personal exception of The General, of course...can't get enough of "Pants on the Ground".)

I can't believe I am actually saying this, but Posh kind of grew on me the last two nights. I think her role as an image consultant for the contestants might actually be a good fit. I do think she is way too skeletal but her clothes are usually nice. And she seems like a really loving and cool mom once you get through the stony British exterior. I can't believe I am writing this....... ...

Yeah, in the previous auditions, Mrs. Beckham was pretty much of a non-entity, wasn't she? I liked that she talked about the performers' appearance. AI likes to pretend that the competition is all about pure raw talent but it isn't... A LOT of it is about if the contestants look the part, Posh is just the first judge to stay on that subject consistently.

181 made it to Hollywood...there is no reason why we couldn't have seen the auditions for ALL 181 who made it. I hate that.

I don't think it is a matter of there being a reason for that or for not doing that, but rather that the objective is to create the best television program for broadcast, and their perspective is obviously that doing as they did achieves that objective better than slaving themselves to unnecessary criteria, such as presenting all 181 auditions of those who made it to Hollywood.

OK, the 6'8" 17 year old with the falsetto voice: could he have a pituitary problem? That voice just seemed out of place. He just didn't seem comfortable (watching him was a real "wincer".)

Yes yes...but they could have shown us the 181 who made it while still giving the "train wreck" folk enough air time to make it interesting.

Nothing really shocking there, Lilly. I think what we're talking about here is a difference between what someone would like, versus what "they" should have done. It's a bit like Survivor... they could show folks doing myriad different activities on the island, but they choose to focus mostly on the competitions and conflicts, because it makes better television overall.

Personally, I would prefer it if AI started with Hollywood Week, leaving the auditions unbroadcast. Heck, they could spent a full week's worth, 4 hours of broadcast time, on each day of Hollywood Week, and I'd be happier than I am as things are now. However, that's just my personal preference.

Thinking about it a bit more, I think I'd be happier if AI took more hints from Survivor... showing more of the experience of going through Hollywood Week (like Survivor shows scenes from the camps, etc.) and perhaps even through the whole competition (how do the contestants live, while performing as finalists; show us the process where they choose their songs each week; rehersals; calling home to let family know how things are going; how do meals work; even show the spats between roommates).

I'd like that a lot. However, again, that's just my personal preference.

Well, ratings have been down....but I don't expect the format to ever change....

I think part of the problem with some of the format changes I would like to see is that they'd really need to cut out the underage contestants. Even though they don't show anything overly-compromising or -salacious on Survivor, essentially putting people on Candid Camera 24/7 for five months is really stressful, and would be inappropriate to subject underage contestants to that sort of thing.
