American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

I get what you're saying, but....

I'm personally whining because last year's first show produced the very very best performances of the whole season. Set the bar for me.

We talked about this a few pages back, but the first show had Taylor doing "Levon" (which wowed the heck out of me) and Chris doing "Wanted" as well as many more stellar performances (Shout out to Figment for taking and keeping great notes!)

And I know we're all busy, but I'm not used to watching a whole lot of tv. 4 hours was a lot for me to devote to such mediocrity, at best. After gagging through endless weeks of auditions, I'm ready for some entertainment. Real, quality entertainment.

And these are supposed to be the 24 BEST of ...how many? I mean, they showed us those packed stadiums enough times. And we're supposed to believe these are the best?

Eeek, I sound like I have anger issues. I had better give it a break for a week or 2 huh?:lmao:

I'm with you, ckay. NEVER have I seen the bar lowered so low.

I've watched since Season 1 and I knew from the start who I liked.... only blew ONE year, can you say "Underwhelm"???? bo.....

I think AI has taken it's audience for granted this year. I heard the other day that if they lost HALF their audience they will still be in first place in the ratings. I'm in this business so I know what this equates to.... mucho dinero.

They have started caring less about the audience and now are catering more to the advertisers. Sex sells... no kidding, but for those of us who like MUSIC... it's a joke.

People like Sundance and Antonella who messed up horrendously during Hollywood week make us go :confused3 as to why so many highly talented individuals were told to go home and they were asked to stay. Are they setting them up to fail or do they have another agenda? It's surely not for entertainment purposes, that's for sure.

That being said I will probably, like most of us, stick with it HOPING for the best. The execs behind JR records already know that. Did they put up the best singers and performers to sign them up? No.. they put up who THEY want and a bunch of losers for us to wade through.

No year made this more obvious.

I mentioned last night that she needs to stop hunching up her shoulders (I think it is a nervous habit) and the jacket she was wearing was way too small for her. PLUS why put a jacket with shoulder pads in it on when you always hunch up your shoulders? I found it annoying to watch, so I stopped watching the screen and just listened...much better.
Is she hunching her shoulders or could it be that she just doesn't have much of a neck? That's what it looks like to me.

I havent wathced but 2 seasons of Idol from start to finish, but why are you guys all ready whinning about the talent
This was only the 1st week of the 24.
Good golly, it took me a while to find a favorite.
I remember liking Taylor from his audition last year, but I dont remember being WOWED from the 1st night.
Give the people a chance.
IMO you guys are being way tooo critical for the 1st night
I did think that Sundance killed his song, but thats all Ive said about this so far.

::yes:: I agree with you, Elliott was my favorite last year but it wasn't until the third week or so that I really started paying attention to him. I'm already a fan of Blake but I'm sure more people will grow on me as the contest progresses!

For any of you who buy into dialidol.com, the projected results are really scary and prove how much AI is about popularity and not talent. WIthout disclosing results, The second leading female contestant in votes and the two leadingm male contestants in votes should be going home instead.

Amen...

They were very reliable last year, hopefully NOT this year. I understand they're only counting THEIR system, which most people do not use but we'll see.

Wow, it's funny how different people like different things...that's what makes the world go 'round. I thought last season was AWFUL. It was nothing compared to Season 4 which is by far my favorite. Not one performance last year blew me away...not one. This year I think that there are a few people who I like and am actually excited and looking forward to some good entertainment. Last year I was frankly bored. I think LeKisha's performance was better than anything we saw all last year.

Hope you get into this year a little more, you seem to ejoy Idol.

hate to break it to you buddy, but most people on this thread will disagree with you. lots of us liked last season. that was the first time i even bothered with AI. i'm beginning to think i'm going to stop watching, i'm so bored with the show this season.

There is no chance of that happening this year. Based on last night's performance the '07 final four should all be women of color. All the skinny, look-alike white chicks can just pack their bags and go right now. Truly, with the possible exception of Gina Glocksen, they're all running together in my mind. That may not be very PC, but it's the truth IMO.

if that's the case, then someone's gonna chime in that it's racist and sexist. you know it's gonna happen.

speak for yourself. my favorite Idol "wowed" me as soon as he walked in the door for auditions last season. :beach:

I agree... I loved last season. I miss Ace, Chris, Bucky... heck even Chicken Little could be in the top 3 with this group of guys. I am in season 5 withdrawl.

I really hope some of them really bring it next week and WOW me. :confused3

*cries* two of my favorites!! man, i'd even take Bucky this season!!

I wonder what the deal is with Simon and Ryan. I'm used to their normal bantering back and forth, but during the last two nights it's gotten to the point of being distracting. There seems to be some real nastiness brewing between those two, and you can tell that both are genuinely p'od.

yeah the flirting between those two needs to be toned down a bit.

Didn't a girl get kicked off for something similar a couple of seasons ago? Or were hers worse??

Frenchies were topless I think...these are just as bad since they are not posed...but what she does in her down time! they look like Myspace pics!

The thing that happened on guy night was really weird. I think Simon was po'd at Ryan for interrupting during the judges' critique. And then Ryan went bananas at Simon calling him "sweetheart" - possibly because it belittles Ryan's contribution to the show. There is also a persistent rumor that Ryan is deeply in the closet...

Anyway, I am just tired of Ryan baiting the contestants to talk back to the judges. It's not necessary, it never helps the contestant, and it just puts a damper on the whole show.

i just don't peg Ryan as gay. i know it's just a "rumor" but still, i just don't see it.

the sweetheart comment was a bit odd, wasn't it?
