American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

haven't watched today's show yet, I am waiting for it to finish recording here on the West Coast so I can just fast forward through the commercials, but yesterday's show wasn't anything great. I thought the Navy guy was cute. Hope he'll make it through the next round! I am a sucker for those military guys! Other than that, I wish they wouldn't drag out the auditions for sooooo loooooong! It gets kinda old after a while!

whyyyyyy is Brenna singing???????

she seriously gives all of us Ace fans a bad name.

i've said it before and i'll say it again.

"omg Ace is my favorite and he drew this heart for me and then i went and got it tattooed on my wrist" ......*cue creepy axe murderer music*

seriously Ace, run far far away from her if you ever see her again!!

honestly, i sing better than half of these people(and that's actually pretty sad) i feel like going on there once. just to see how far i'd make it.

I think the brother and sister should get their own sitcom or something. Too cute. :)

I actually hate this part of AI. I tape them and fast forward through the people humiliating themselves in the hopes that I will get to catch a glimpse of the next AI in their first audition. Nobody has caught my eye yet (no goosebumps) but I do love the show once it's the actual competition.

That's what I thought too!:rotfl2: I was staring at the TV, openmouthed, going "OMG..if you have girls that big, you MUST MUST MUST wear a bra! Always!". When Ryan asked her what her look was and she said it was sexy, I wanted to cry. Oh girl..that was not sexy. Not even close.

Okay I was in the bathroom when she first came on and my mom was screaming "where is her bra?" I came out and started laughing. The girl was so tone deaf and she was wow...I can not believe someone would dress and act that way on national tv.. but then again she was not really mad at the end..

Simon: "What the bloody hell was that!?"
kid: "that was me"

I laughed so hard when Simon said that.. but wow..

So what do you guys think of Randy? I think he has been kind of mean.. Like last night but wow.. I would not have the guts to say some of the things said lol.

Red wow.. that is all I can say what was with him.? that was sad.

also that guy from the Salt Lake area... he scared me.. the look on his face was so scary lol.

The girl who was 6'7 that would be hard to go into something knowing that you are that tall and people make jokes. But I am glad she made it

This season is going to be very intresting.

The brother and sister were so cute! I hope that one of them or both make it far.. I hope that Idol doesn't split them and make them hate each other.

OK - I finally finished watching the show - I REALLY wish I could watch it "with" the rest of you.

Well I wished that they had some REALLY good people on tonite to get me hyped up about the show, but so far, nothing!

Since I'm 6 feet, I was really crossing my fingers that the tall girl wouldnt suck. She wasnt great, but at least she did well!

Hopefully next week they will have some great singers on, and hopefully, an Ace-like contestant. (ahhhhhhh . . . . .:cloud9: )

Eh, I didn't think last night was much worse than the night before. There was even one pleasant surprise.

I guess it was clear that once it started with the "I Shot The Sheriff" guy, we couldn't expect too much. I thought he was last year's funniest bad audition. :rotfl:

Then we got Jennifer the witch who really didn't want to hear the word NO and Misha with her mom who was just down right scary. Various other weirdos fill my "where did they come from?" list but you all saw them and there's no need to rehash that tragedy. :sad2:

So on to the good stuff.

I liked Thomas the gas attendant, Anna the tall girl (she needs to tone it down a bit), Jordan, the 16 yo girl (she was screechy but has some promise) and the sister in the couple from India. Blake, the beat boxer, was OK; A bit strange but unique and Aldopho who sang Open Arms might be this year's
Ace/Constantine.

This leaves us with the first and only contestant I've seen so far who gives me some hope that there really is talent out there. The brother of the brother/sister duo from India. We now know he can nail Stevie Wonder. I can't wait to see if he can sing other songs as well.

The judges had me :rotfl: I thought Paula was OK and, honestly, there wasn't one thing they said that I wasn't thinking.

I hope they've crossed Seattle off the list of places to audition. However, next week is looking good. Get me to the deep south for a hot bed of gifted performers! :thumbsup2

I was so annoyed with Simon calling her a giraffe and then Paula making jokes about her height. I am really sick of the trio of them "joking" about the way people look.....if they want to dis someone's singing, fine, it is a talent competition. A beauty contest its not. He annoyed me so much tonight with not just the tall lady but several others, and last year I think the way he treated Mandisa was despicible.

I must admit that it did hurt when he called her a giraffe, because that's what kids used to call me! But, I love what Mandissa did last year: she told Simon that she forgave him, making him feel like dirt! I loved it!

How many times does Simon say "I have to say, and I'm not being rude, I've seen some weird (strange, bad) performances but that was the weirdest (strangest, worst) performance I have ever seen."

He said it last night to someone, I think it was Red. While Red wasn't good, they're been several ones in the past that were really bizarre & I'm just talking about the singing not the costumes or acts.

Maybe they need to hire Don Rickles to write them some new insults. Or maybe they figure they'll have Randy be the insulting one this year & that'll change things up.

So far it's been pretty ho-hum but then I did miss some last night. DVR was acting up & I missed the mother/daughter & the sister/brother & a few others in the middle. Did I miss much by missing them?

Is it possible that Fox could work in any more commercials during AI? I couldn't believe how many commercials they had.

I think the brother and sister should get their own sitcom or something. Too cute. :)

I thought the same thing because they reminded me a little of Donny and Marie in the 70s. The brother's hair was like Donny's back then.

Did you hear Simon's interview on Oprah yesterday? He said that one guy stands out this year, but he doesn't look like "an American Idol." I wonder if it could be this guy?

BTW, the guy that sang Open Arms gave me chills!!!!!!! I was waiting for Paula to cry or something.

And another wasted two hours!! I'm actually falling asleep about 15 mins before the show ends now..happened both nights!! Looks like I'm going to have to go and check out the 'red' guy.
But, the thing I wish for the most??? I wish the judges would stop with the snickering, outright laughter, and insults. Is there anyone out there, in tv viewing land that actually enjoys that stuff? Yes, I realize that there are people out there who are put through for the 'I can't believe they are doing this on national tv' factor. Fine, but don't make comments about people's physical attributes, or lack thereof. I think the public has proven that they don't always think that someone who is overweight or grey haired in not 'Idol' material.
I just think there are better ways of 'critiqueing' people than insulting their looks, or even their voices. There are some people auditioning that may have less than steller voices, but for some reason think they are 'okay'. Please, let them down gently.

I agree with you. Another DISer posted yesterday about the laughing, too. It is really rude to laugh while the person is auditioning!!!!!!!! It is just cruel!!!!!

I "kind of" agree--but honestly...after 5 years..I am guessing they just didn't think it could get any worse.

It leaves me to wonder if the crew is giggling and losing it as well.

I have no sympathy for the contestants or the planted contestants who become belligerant with the judges.

My question is, what is in the water out in Seattle?????

My word, I am sure AI went out of it's way to not only find the people who can't sing, but to find "unusual" looking people also.

IMO, some people are asking for it. They go in there, I know it is a TV show wanting ratings, but they waste the judges time by saying they are the NEXT American Idol, only to make a fool of themselves on purpose just to get on TV.

I feel 90% of the bad singer know they can't sing. Simon calling the guy a monkey was cruel. If it were me, I would of walked out of there and had nothing else to do with the show. The camers could kiss my behind. But he mugged it up for the camera afterwards, he did a speech on how he feels about Simon. So, he got his 5 minutes of fame. I am sure he didn't mind at all, it got him on TV.

For all we know, some of this could be scripted.

It seemed to me that the judges were being nicer last night, at least at the beginning of the show. But by the end, whew. They got down right nasty with some of the contestants.

But honestly, do some of these people really think they can carry a tune? Have they never listened to themselves squawk?

As for the potty-mouth stuff. I really think it's unnecessary for the editors to leave that stuff in with the idol logo in front of their mouths. And it seems they show more and more of that each year - though last year with that girl in the tiny white dress that they let go on for what seemed like hours...

Yes, I do agree that a lot of them are asking for it. However, there are those that are bad but are really trying. You can tell by watching that they are serious and trying. They give it all that they can. Those are the ones that I feel so badly for. I think the judges are mean to laugh at them! Also, the mean comments about physical appearance are rude. Well, people that go in dressed up, like the flag outfits, are asking for comments. However, the guy that Simon said looks like a monkey was not dressed in costume and asking for a comment.

It took me awhile to figure out who the guy with the big creepy eyes reminded me of, other than Gollum.

It's this guy (who was also the inspiration for the face/voice of Boo-Berry, the cereal ghost):
