American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

:rotfl: We're all entitled to our opinion. I truly cannot stand to watch or listen to Taylor. His "style" is nails on the chalkboard. It's like George Clooney and Joe Cocker mated.

While Katherine has done okay on some songs, the sour look on her face this week and last when she landed in the bottom two just really turned me off. Such a bad sport.

I'm not done with AI, but I'm done for this season. Back to Lost.

I would be upset and probably show a little disgust if I was in the bottom 2 also....I think that shows a competitive side not being a sore loser...just someone not ready to go yet....Its no worse than the face Chris showed when he heard he was gone.....these young people, did I just say young people, Heck i am only 32...LOL....anyway....these people have devoted alot of time and heartache and are trying to win a competition so a little emotion is ok in my book..If she was stomping and pouting then then that would be bad.....I am sure if Kat was voted off she would be right over there like Chris was hugging and congratulating the others....Its a shame they cut him off doing that.....

I am so bummed that Chris is gone. But I know he will move on and continue to sing and we will see him again! As for the final 3.....I just don't know. I like Elliot and Taylor, not Kat as much. I don't really have any desire to watch the show anymore. But I'm sure I will ;)

I agree, dolphindan1!!

I am so sad for Chris......he looked so crushed......

It was kinda awkard to have the audience scream and clap when Ryan said most of American thought he was the next American Idol....only to have Ryan turn around and say he was eliminated...... :sad2:

Here's hoping he gets a record deal real soon and I can buy his album!!!

At least I'll get to see him on the Idol tour!!!! :lovestruc :Pinkbounc

Okay, all you Chris fans can start sending your votes Elliott's way now! :teeth:

NOT! I am a Chris fan, and now that he is gone the only one I will be voting for is Taylor!

I really feel that Kat or Elliott should have been the one going home tonight. But seeing how easy it was for me to vote for Chris last night, I am not really shocked that he went home.

I just hope that Taylor will not be another Clay---my meaning of that is that Clay was never in the bottom of the pack. He was never brought down to the stage for either bottom 3 or 2, yet he did not win his season. Yet, Ruben had been called down to the stage...that is why so many people were shocked at the win that year. Now we have Taylor who has never been in the bottom 3 or 2, I just hope it holds out and he is able to win. Only time will tell. GO TAYLOR!!!

Hmm interesting point!

My first thought when Ryan said Chris was going home was Taylor is a sure win now. But maybe not. :confused3

Plan A: Has always been that I'd be voting for Chris to win (against Taylor) in the final two.

Sheesh, just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone pulls a fast one. Must come up with a new plan. Thinking, thinking... OK, done.

Plan B: looks like I'll be voting for either Elliott or Kat to win.

Sorry about tonight Chris fans. I was stunned right along with ya.

BTW
Having Taylor do Jailhouse Rock tonight was just plain tacky!
I think it got us out of a little bit of the long, drawn out, dramatic announcement (never a bad thing)
But I think it also shortened Chris' goodbye spot. (not a good thing)
Bad form Ryan and AI!

Loved the comment about a possible Elliott/Taylor showdown being "an all geek final." Sorry can't remember who to credit it to and it's too late to go back and look. I try not to be too in your face with my opinions - but that had me :rotfl:

Can you imagine if someone had told Simon that Taylor & Elliott would be in the final three during auditions!?

This is really a watershed moment for AI. I think they've lost the rock audience, permanently now.

I just think even last season that the main audience for the show is not a hard rock audience....I know I am not and as much as I liked Chris did get tired of his type music...I was glad to see him try to soften a bit....But I personally dont think the audience is a taylor type music audience either... I just think he is the most popular contestant right now....he is just fun and really has a great voice

I thought Chris was going to win. Same type of thing happened on the first AI. Can't remember the girl's name but everyone thought she was going to win too. She had a few acting parts and then died out.

I don't get all the love for Elliot. He sounds nasally to me.

I love Kat. I'll be rooting for her.

No reason to watch this show any more. It's clearly NOT about talent.

The audience is not about music. They're all about who makes their little 13 year old hearts go pitter-patter.

My prediction? The final two will be Elliott and Katherine and the winner will be Katherine.

I do believe AI has "jumped the shark" tonight. I know they've lost me.

I agree that it's clearly NOT about talent anymore, and that AI jumped the shark last night (and I hate that phrase, but it is so appropos here). However, I believe that the final two will be Taylor and Elliott.

Whew, I just read thru all the posts from last night and my head is spinning. Well first of all, my condolences to all you Chris fans. I haven't formed an attachment to any of this year's contestants like I did last year
( BO! ) but I can certainly understand your disappointment and agitation.

That being said, I never felt that Chris would win it all. I started off really liking him but week after week he brought nothing new to the table. There were flashes of real talent from time to time but then he would lapse into a scream fest and that's when he lost me.

However.......... it most certainly should have been Katharine that left us last night. I'm not just basing that on her performance of this week but on that and the season. While she's got the voice (for the most part) her onstage demeanor is nearly a zero. Chris may be the same story week in and week out (angry young man with the weight of the world on his shoulders) but at least you see some emotion. Regardless of AI, I do think Chris appeals to a lot of viewers and he will be fine. I imagine there were numerous record producers who had his number on speed dial last night. :thumbsup2

Did I vote for Elliott this week? Yes I did. I think both his songs were amazing. Is he pretty? Not really but I tend to look for pretty a lot less as I've gotten older. Talent wins over pretty any day for me. He brought it all this week while the other three kept the status quo.

I found Taylor's song last night better than what he gave us on Tuesday. They put him on the spot (did you see the shocked look on his face?) but Taylor didn't just fall off the banana boat yesterday. He's a seasoned performer and was able to step up and be just as, if not more, entertaining than he was the other night.

BTW, I also thought Priscilla was preggo.

So who will be the final two? Well Taylor unless he doesn't show up next week. Both Katharine and Elliott can really sing. Now it just depends on which one of them can also perform. If this week is any indication, I think it could be Elliott that joins Taylor center stage in two weeks.

I agree, though it did give me a chance to switch over to ABC and watch Lost for a couple minutes. :teeth:

Really really sorry to see Chris go, he was my 2nd favorite. It should have been Kat.

Did anybody see the look on Simon's face? You could almost read what he was saying:

"Well - America screwed up again."

I admit, I like Kat, but she should have gone last night. None of 3 has a promising career on top 40 radio. Chris, regardless of what happened last night, will be a star.

You said exactly what I was thinking. Sorry that the Chris fans are disappointed, but I'm an Elliott fan. I liked Chris in the beginning, but to me, he seems like a one trick pony, and I lost interest fast. Elliott seems to grow every week, and I respect that in a person. I would like to see an Elliot/Taylor finale. I like em both, and it would be interesting to see which style wins.

Now I don't get the venom when a favorite gets voted off. It's a matter of taste in music and performers, not attached to the level of education that one has recieved. I may find myself booted off this thread, but I comments like that earlier one are not necessary in a discussion.

I thought the exact same thing.

I didn't say the rock audience was all that big. :)

Seriously, this year's ratings were stellar. My point was about how this would affect next year's ratings. We'll see!

Its not just VFTW. Soul Patrol is a huge and devoted fanbase. VFTW has kind of come up with our own take-off of the Soul Patrol name, but I can't post it here, lol.

But yeah, the elimination tonight will definitely get people to talk tomorrow. And that is never a bad thing.

What is VFTW please?
