American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

They split the idols into a high group and a low group and asked Taylor to choose the high group. He walks over to Chris, Paris, and Ace (low group) shakes Chris' hand then walks over to high group. :confused3

Alot of Chris lovers here may have taken offense to that?

I don't think he had the option to stand in the middle. Remember there was a commercial break. He was on the couch when they left and standing in the middle when they came back.

When Ryan asked him to go stand with the group that was safe he walked over by Chris. Then before he even got there Ryan said "I'm sorry Taylor" at which point Taylor shook Chris' hand and walked over to the other group at which point Ryan finished "you picked the right group" (or something like that).

Then all 4 of the safe contestants stopped by those on the bottom three for hugs etc.

I don't think anything Taylor did was disrespectful.

I don't think Taylor was disrespectful in any way. I think he was shaking Chris' hand because he knew he shouldn't be in the bottom three. But he knew Ace had to be because when hasn't he? Personally, I HATE it when AI puts anyone in that position. Taylor is my favorite, but I voted for Elliott this time around. I wasn't ready to see him go yet.

Kellie will DIE on the Bocelli--especially if they do songs from Bocellis new Amore CD!

Katherine will do well, Elliott will do well. Paris may do well. Taylor is in the Iffy catergory. Chris is also in the iffy catergory.

A few ramblings about last night:

I wasn't surprised that Ace went home.

I was surprised that Kellie wasn't in the bottom three.

I was surprised that Paris was in the bottom three.

I now think that this is nothing more than a popularity contest with little to no regards to the individuals singing ability.

I hate when they make a contestant choose the group that is in the bottom three. So juvenile!

I do like Kellie and I do think she can sing but, based on her performance Tuesday, she should have been eliminated last night.

I won't be checking DialIdol any more if I want to be surprised.

Because of last night's results, I honestly doubt I will hear Chris actually sing another note the rest of this season.

Because I think this has turned into a popularity contest I think the remaining six will be eliminated as follows.

Paris

Elliott

Katharine

Chris

The top two will be Taylor and Kellie.

As always... JMHO!

I think I have now lost faith in the voting system. I think it is fixed. I voted for Chris from the time the lines opened till they closed. I could not get ONE vote in for him. His line was busy the whole time. For him to be in the bottom three something is really wrong!!!!!! This is when I start getting disgusted in these voting shows. Kelli is still on the show??? That says it all.

You know, I've never watched AI before this year and this time my entire family has watched from the beginning. I REALLY want to know how it happens that of the final 12 I only did not already "know" Elliott because they did video clips with personal stories of the others during auditions.(maybe they even did Elliott but I have no memory). I know those screening people can tell the talented ones, but really... makes me wonder! I only vote once or twice for my three favorites, but I had REAL trouble getting through for Chris. Kellie????? Ick. By the way, Chris handled the situation well last night but I thought his wife would pass out!

Taylor.....totally classless. I have never seen anyone on the show before with that low of class and bad taste.

I don't care if anyone else shares my opinion...I was disgusted...had to vent.

During the commercial my husband and I kept saying "Don't pick a group, don't pick a group" :worship: I thought he should have gone and sat with the judges. We both thought that was rotten of Idol to do that to him.

Again, they are NOT doing HIS songs, I believe. He is coaching them to do LOVE songs.

wow, dialidol was right on. and i'm glad, becos i love me some elliott :lovestruc & taylor  though i could really do without kathrine and kellie. i think the above poster who said paris, then elliott would be eliminated next with kellie & taylor ending up in the finale was dead on. i DO get the kellie attraction - she is funny - but it's not for me. i don't think elliott will win but i want him to stick around as long as possible, because i enjoy his performances each week so much.

All I see when I look at Kellie is a Dolly Parton want to be. Except she is missing the stacked top, singing abilty and brains. Hoping she is gone soon.

Wow.... now that you mention it, I do see her AS Dolly Parton too! But I don't think very much of Dolly Parton. She acts dumb too, right? She can sometimes sing and sometimes not. She just has a bigger chest than Kellie.... Great analogy, even though you see it differently than I do.

I will be voting next week. I think this show is fixed!!! How in the heck was Chris in the bottom 2 :sad2: ? Are people nuts!!! I'm also disapointed how they put Taylor in the middle making him choose sides. I've seen American Idol do this before on past shows and the person just stands in the middle. I was a tad disappointed that Taylor chose a side.

I also felt Kellie should've been in the bottom 3 at least. She did horrible Tuesday night. Don't get me wrong, I like Kellie, but she didn't do good. Honestly I like Kellie better than Katherine for some reason (personality wise) :confused3 but Kellie should've been in the bottom 2 last night.

I'm not a big Kellie fan as far as her singing, I don't dislike her at all, (I think she's sweet) but I'm really surprised that she wasn't in the bottom 3. SHe deserved to be there, Chris didn't.

I'm very very happy that Elliott wasn't in the bottom 3! It just proves that his fan base is growing!!

I couldn't watch last night. What in the world did Taylor do that was so classless and disgusting?

Sorry...should have read further. I didn't see it but I can't imagine Taylor being disrespectful in anyway. Please remember that A. this show is scripted (somewhat) and they probably told him he HAD to pick a side. and B. these contestants KNOW each other...they know what's going on...they have computer access. They probably knew that Ace was going home and had discussed it long before they got on that stage. I'm sure no one blamed Taylor for his choice...as if he had one.

I've got to defend Dolly here - she's one of the smartest people in show business, IMO. She's very down to earth, and knows how to appeal to all kinds of people, which sometimes might make her approach seem "simple", but dumb? Never.

Does this mean I always enjoy her music and have all her albums - no. I'm not a fan of most country music, so I don't. However, I have a lot of respect for Dolly, and when Kellie's been around and had the kind of career that Dolly's had, then we can come back and talk about whether her dumb comments were an act or not.

I was hoping he would stand in the middle but I have a feeling that was not an option this year...

::yes:: i think you're right...bo did that last year, i don't think taylor could have gotten away with that again.
if it were me i would have stayed planted next to ryan seacrest and said "well, i know YOU'LL be here next week" :rotfl:
i appreciated that taylor shook chris's hand...really, what an ugly situation. other than being a bo copycat, there's no way to look good in that situation. it's just a lousy thing for them to ask him to do.

I saw Ryan on an interview and Ryan said he is the only one who knows whose going home the night of elimination. Not even the judges know or the contestants. So Taylor picked a side. On past idols shows the contestant just stood in the middle, they didn't pick a side. I think that's the smart thing to do. Just to keep the peace.

if memory serves, this is the 3rd year they've asked the contestants to do this (pick a side). i don't remember who it was the first year, but they picked the WRONG side - went and stood with latoya and jennifer hudson, and that was the bottom 3 (i think jennifer went home that night). bo stood in the middle last year, and then taylor chose the correct side this year.

Philadisney is correct. It was George Huff who chose the wrong side.
