In Elliott's defense (We live in the same town as him) He was a DJ on a hard core R&B station in town. The only Queen ever played on that station was Latifah. Knowing that station, I'm not surprised that he didn't know that song.

And as long as I'm picking on Taylor (I'll stop after this)...I'm sure another contestant would have loved to do "We Are the Champions" since that is such a popular Queen song, and he kind of screwed (can I say that on the DIS?) someone else out of the chance to do it by switching at the last minute.

Okay...I'm done now.

Happy voting everyone!

Actually I heard the reason that Taylor changed songs was because Ace had already picked We Will Rock You and pretty much those 2 songs go hand in hand (heck, they are practically one song) and he said it wouldn't be fair to Ace because he would feel he was unfairly competing against him. He didn't want the judges comparing the two of them unfairly.

Aww you're a good neighbor to defend him :teeth:. And I really do like Elliott and don't want to see him go (yet). But I'm still amazed that someone with a that much musical experience would not at least somewhat recognize such a well-known Queen song ("Somebody to Love").

Maybe I'm just overly familiar with Queen even though I don't own any of their albums. Or maybe I'm just. . .gulp. . .old :sad2:. Elliott looks as old as me, though :duck:.

Warning.. DH Obi-Wan is NOT HAPPY about Paris tonight!

Expect a huge vent about her butchering that song to come in the morning.

I guess I am waaaaaaaaaaay in the minority; I thought Bucky and Ace were the most entertaining, and I find Taylor painful to watch.

OK, I'm jumping in full force. I haven't been watching AI at all this season. I've heard the hype about Chris and seen bits here and there but tonight was really my first full show.

Bucky - eh ok. Great song choice but something about him is just ok to me.
Ace - not good at all. When the guy who wrote the song tells you that your arrangement won't work, don't try it.
Chris - like the judges I expected great. Horrible song choice. He did the song ok, it was just a bad song.
Taylor - I liked it. It was fun.
Elliott - he was the best guy IMO tonight and from what I've seen in the past I haven't really liked him
Kellie - please tell me that this girl isn't that dumb? Total train wreak.
Paris - decent singer, bad song choice and horrible wig
Katherine - best girl of the night and that isn't saying much.

All and all I think with the exception of Bucky, Taylor and Elliott everyone made terrible song choices. Freddie Mercury is one tough act to follow and tonight proved that none of the contestants were up to the challenge.

My ranks
Elliott
Taylor
Bucky
Katherine
Chris
Paris
Kellie
Ace

and I could easily flop Taylor and Bucky as well as Katherine and Chris.

Did Paris actually annoy him the most tonight? Personally, I heard quite a bit to get annoyed about. :teeth:

But if we look at dialidol we find bucky going back and forth with ace on the bottom. I thought he did better than ace, kellie, and paris? It is weird how we all hear things differently

1st off i will say I know now why I dont own a single queen album....these songs were horrible....just not a queen fan....that being said

Taylor is back and I am glad....he should win this competition hands down

Chris to me gets worse and worse every week...my 9 year old son says dad can I stay up and watch that guy that looks like the guy of the movie Pacifier...I sad sure....soon as he started singing my son looks at me and says he sucks...my 9 year old said "sucks" all I could do is laugh....that being said Chris will be in the top 3...probably final 2 against Taylor

Katherine...Wow she is beautiful but she is getting boring in the opposite way Chris is....but she is my sleeper for the final 2

Kellie....I love her....she actually did well I thought these songs would be way out of her element but she did good....At least you know you will be entertained in some way when she is on...

Paris....is getting better and better each week....she is climbing my favorite list

Bucky was ok...nothing real special....I could care less if he stayed or went home

Ace....I think you will go home but I think Elliott should go ahead of you

Elliott is way overdue to go home....I would rather have Chicken little than elliott...

Bottom 3
Ace
Elliott
Paris maybe Bucky

Ace will be leaving I think

CHARACTER= TAYLOR :hippie:

Some people that I don't really like surprised me tonight: Taylor, Ace, and Paris! I am not a fan of any of them, but tonight I actually enjoyed them!

My daughter voted twice for Chris and I voted about 8 times for Elliott. I was worried about him last week! I love Elliott's voice.

Thumbs down for Bucky, Kelly and Katherine. I think they should be the bottom 3.

Okay, I need to go ahead and get my opinions of tonight's performances off my chest so I can go to sleep.

First, the good --

Taylor did great with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". He's a lively performer and it's a lively song. Good mix and good song choice. His best performance? Probably not, but still loved it.

Bucky surprised me. He managed to adapt "Fat Bottomed Girls" to his southern rock style without butchering it. Probably the best performance of his I've seen.

Elliott also did well with "Somebody To Love." Not spectacular, but I'll be surprised if he goes tomorrow night.

The bad --

Ace's version of "We Will Rock You" actually sounded well at first but it fell apart on the chorus.

Chris. Chris, Chris, Chris. So much promise tonight. You could have rocked out and ruled tonight with a different song.

The ugly --

Kellie --- well, it was pretty much what I expected. There's no way to do that song justice in a minute and a half, especially when the singer has a heavy country twang. And yes, Kellie, you have an accent. I grew up in northwest GA around people with southern accents and even I think you have a really strong accent.

Katherine also squandered so much promise. When I heard she was doing "Who Wants To Live Forever", I thought it would be one of the highlights. Instead, she was nasally, but what I found annoying was her smiling. The song is NOT -- I repeat, NOT -- a happy song. It's about an immortal who sees everyone he knows and loves grow old and die while he never ages, and the loneliness that goes with that existence.

Paris --- I can't type how I really feel about her performance because it would burn out the word filter on the DIS. Read the lyrics to the song. It was written when Brian was going through marital problems and Freddie was dying. In fact, it came out not long before Freddie passed away. To me, the song has always sounded like Freddie's last will and testament -- he knew he was dying and this was his farewell to his fans and his bandmates, asking them to go on and continue without him, and not to let the band and the music die with him.

Paris comes out there like Tina Turner in Thunderdome like she's trying to pump everyone up. She did not do the song justice. She did not do Freddie or Queen justice.

The celebrity coaches this year have been saying to the contestants that they need to "feel" the music and connect with it. Katharine and Paris were so far detatched from their songs that they would need a GPS to find it. Katharine was just disappointing. Paris was insulting.

(Listing to my some of my Queen CD's as I type this. :thumbsup2 )

Here is what I thought of tonight:

Bucky - I thought he did very good job with his song choice of "Fat Bottom Girls." Though I was laughing a little during his performance, I was not laughing at him, I was laughing at the fact some one actually picked that song. But with this song choice I had hoped that the others too would pick other less known Queen songs...Wrong! But Bucky got my vote tonight.

Ace - Not great, but not that bad. This is one of the songs I was hoping that they would stay away from. But it was not to be. But I just could not get over him trying have them basically re-write the song just for him. Like he knew how to do things better than them...NOT! But I still gave him some votes, because their are others I would like to see go before him.

Kellie - CAN SHE GO HOME NOW!! Who ever told her she could sing that song, should be taken out back and have to tar beat out of them! I kept waiting for the big hook to come out from stage right and pull her off the stage, but it never happened. I WANT HER TO GO HOME! This song was another one that I was hoping that no one would pick tonight.

Chris - Now as a Queen fan, I have to say I don't think I have ever heard the song that Chris sang tonight. Or maybe he sang it in such a way, the original never popped up in my head. I will have to agree with Simon, that this should have been Chris' night to shine, but he didn't really pick the right song to do it. But at least no one can claim that he did a cover of a band who also did a cover of that song. I still like the voice, and still want him around, so he got my vote tonight.

Katharine - Another one of my all time favorite songs. And I didn't think she did too bad of a job with it. Did she hit all the notes right on their heads...No. But no one can really do that but Freddie. So she also had some votes thrown her way by me.

Elliott - Now as some one who is not an Elliott fan; I have to say that I thought he did a pretty good job tonight. Did he get any votes from me? Nope.

Taylor - TAYLOR IS BACK!!! I for one am quite happy that he changed his mind and didn't sing his original choice, it was one of the songs I was hoping that they would stay away from. But during the whole performance I had a smile on my face. I loved every bit of it. Though it was quite hard, I was able to throw some votes his way.

Paris - Another one who needs to go home. And she should be ashamed of herself. That song has a special place in my heart and she just butchered it. It's not a party hardy song, and that is how she made it out to be. I don't really remember it being in Moulan Rouge, but if that was the cover she was trying to sing, it is just as well. The way I remember that song was as Freddie's good-bye to his fans. To this day the video makes be cry, specially when you take in to fact that we lost such a great talent shortly after the song was released. Since this is the song she wanted to choose to sing, then she should have sung the song with the right emotions that go with the song, and she didn't. I have never been a fan of Paris, and tonight just cemented my dislike of the girl. She has never gotten a vote from me and she never will.

Now for me, I was able to get in 41 times tonight for Ace, 10 each for Bucky, Chris and Taylor and 7 times for Katharine. For Taylor, I wasn't able to get those votes in until 15 minutes before the lines were shut down.

Who I think will be in the bottom three:
Ace
Kellie
Paris

Who I would like to go home: Kellie

So, you can read DialIdol a few different ways today. Based on the totals, Ace, Paris and Kellie are the bottom three. Based on percentages, Ace, Bucky and Chris. Based on busy signals is Ace, Paris and Bucky.

It's time for Ace to go home, eh?

I watched. I'm still trying to figure out what was so wrong with Ace's performace. I wouldn't pick him to win, but I really liked how he mixed it up in the middle.

Thanks for the warning. I agree with Obi-Wan. Watching her makde me crazy, as I could not get past the feeling that she was playing "dress up". The whole thing was freaky.

I thought it would be a massacre but instead I was actually mildly entertained. Here’s my take on the top 8.

Bucky: Queen was popular just a bit after my time so the song Fat Bottom Girls was a new experience for me. Whether or not it was suppose to sound the way Bucky presented it, I don’t know. I do know that I liked his version, a surprise as I thought he would absolutely murder music by Queen. Animated and with a super fine look for the evening (ya gotta love that leather on the man), Bucky gets an 8.

Ace: Ace gave us We Will Rock You and while it certainly didn’t have the pulsating drama of the original, it was still fun to watch and listen to. I actually found his version more melodious.
Ace looked comfortable and poised doing this song which brought him a few extra points from me. This is the Queen Anthem. He scores an 8 for his performance.

Kellie: She pretty much lost me from the Night of the Living Dead look. BoRap is NOT a song that should be sung by a woman. It just doesn’t work on so many levels. Besides, we had Constantine do this last year and pretty much nail down the version all others will be compared to. When Kellie finished up, I was left muttering Huh? over and over and over.
She gets a 5 but this morning I’m wondering why I went that high with the score.

Chris: I have to say that after last night I’ve pretty much given up on Chris. Here’s probably the only guy who might have rocked out a Queen song. So what does he do? Picks one full of screaming, dons his angry young man look again and bores me to tears. I think the song was called Innuendo. Little to no melody and a beat I just couldn’t figure out, it really was a mess.
I hate to diss Chris but I’m done with him. He gets a 4.

Katharine: There must have been a glitch in the cable signal because the gushing judges and us here in the house certainly were not listening to the same performance. Singing Who Wants to Live Forever, I wanted to open a vein and end it all after a couple of bars of off key screaming. I guess the AI producer took my advice and did nail her to the floor and that was the only good thing about her performance.
Just dreadful, she gets a 4.

Elliott: My goodness, this guy certainly has amazing control of his voice. Singing Somebody To Love, which probably had more words in it than all the other songs done last night, he made everyone else look amateurish. The finale of the song was amazing. Glad to see Elliott back and smokin!... He gets a 9.

Taylor: I have a few favorite Queen songs and Taylor’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love is one of them. Finally looking like he was having a good time, my husband declared his performance the first real bit of entertainment of the night. I found him just busy enough to be interesting and the vocals were really fine. Oh, and I loved the missed mic kick. LOL!
Just fun, fun, fun, it was nice to see the original Taylor back. He gets a 10. And Simon, you’re an old poop sometimes.

Paris: Surprisingly I thought Paris’ tough biker chick look worked pretty well on her. Doing The Show Must Go On didn’t work as well. Paris has a fairly strong voice but that song was definitely bigger than she is. With her new look and attitude, had she chosen a song a bit less demanding, her score would be higher. As it was, she’s only getting a 7.

Who I voted for or tried to vote for. I was unable to get through for anyone!
Taylor
Elliott
Bucky

Who I want to go home:
Katharine
Chris
Paris

Who I think will go home:
Paris
Katharine
Bucky
