American Idol Season 14 Official Thread

I don't think he is a Kanye wannabe at all. He isn't saying that HE shouldn't go home or that HIS abilities are more than anyone else's. Kanye is a whole 'nother breed of hog.

Quentin obviously cares very much about his friends and he and Joey must be close. Last week he saw Quassim go home, another good friend. He wasn't saying the competition is "whack" he was just saying that he feels its "whack" that Joey and Trayvon may go home. He didn't say that he thought either of them were better than the others, he just seems to feel bad for his friends. I truly feel that his comments said out of emotion were taken differently than he meant them. If you listen to what he says to Harry, he says very clearly that he meant no disrespect to the competition.

The folks seem to get very close during the weeks of AI. They are bound to have mixed feelings every week they see someone they care about go home. I mean, how many people watch this show and get attached to one of the contestants and get frustrated when they go home. I don't see Quentin's frustration as any different. Maybe he wears his emotions on his sleeve but I just don't think he has the ego anywhere near what Kanye has. JMHO
Kanye's arrogance is not always about him saying his music is better. Hie disrespect for both Taylor Swift and Beck was about him thinking others - Beyonce - deserved awards instead. I think Quentin was doing the exact same thing. He obviously thought Joey was better than one of the other six and it was rude of him to say so. I see no difference in their behaviors. Just because his taste in music is different than the majority does not make the decisions and talent of others "whack".

Rude is rude.

American Classics.....Top 7 Show

Two songs each. *sigh*
We're about to enter the Twilight Zone period of Idol where it seems like such a long time to get to the final 3 and the producers drag it out for the heck of it. Here's hoping that we have some proper American Classics chosen tonight.

  • Tyanna – She was one of my top 2 last week. And it's a song from the '50s to start. Why do Fools pick a song from the 50's? Isn't it outside the standard demographics of the Idol viewing public? Anyway....except for that last note, she did a solid job. Not stellar; but it was 'safe'.
  • Clark – Another one of my top 2 last week. From the 70's songbook. So far, we definitely have two American classic tunes. Another commendable performance from Clark. If he wins this competition, I hope he finds songwriters willing to write some original bluesy-rock tunes for him.
  • Jax – OMG. I want/love her fringe shoulders. Fringe is so 'in' right now, right??? I think she really did a good version of this song, even with the wind machine. Fringe and Rock. One of the two is always 'in'.
  • Nick – Another song from the 70's songbook. So far, so good. Looks like everyone is singing well with the songs chosen tonight. Great effort and relaxed energy, Nick. You made me look up tonight and watch you.
  • Quentin – So far, the only song from the 90's. Theatrically well done as always. Wait....what? What’s with that attitude? Poorly done, Quentin. So....did YOU want to be in the bottom two??? Wait till next week. I bet you'll have the opportunity.

Bottom two time.

  • Joey – I've been a Joey fan. I love her quirky individuality and her singing style (and I know I’m in the minority) but I've always known she was never going to win. She's too left-field for the mainstream viewing public. Based on last week's performance, she deserves to go home. Based on My Funny Valentine, I think she's going home. Sadly, there was nothing 'Joey-style special' about this rendition of an American jazz classic!
  • Rayvon – I've lost track of how many times he’s been in the bottom two. Another solid elevator music performance, Rayvon. Pleasant, but nothing special.

Second round. Ding! Ding! Will Quentin and Harry get in a fist fight? Let's find out.

  • Clark – O.M.G. I love Moon River and Breakfast at Tiffany's. Clark was always on a winner here with me. Add the piano, black suit and mood lighting and I'm definitely going your way! Can I just say that based on the two performances tonight, if Clark wins and puts out an album, I'd buy it? I can't say that I've been able to say that of some of the more recent Idol winners in the last few years.
  • Tyanna – Wheelhouse time for Tyanna. Even with the inevitable comparisons against CCR and Tina, this was actually pretty well done. It's moments like this that you can see her as a potential Idol winner.
  • Nick – As good as the first song was, I liked this one even better. At LAST!!! I think you’ve truly demonstrated the potential for being an Idol winner we could all see was there from the start tonight with performances that reflect how good you are.
  • Quentin – Such as shame you didn't exercise the Sound of Silence earlier. As much as this was a good performance, I just couldn't get past seeing you standing over HCJ earlier. And you really need to lose the nose ring for TV close-ups.
  • Jax – She's such a little rocker! Not the best singing but such a fun electric performance to watch.

Bottom 2 time, second time round.

  • Rayvon – Another solid vocal performance in the bottom 2. Despite that, sadly, he's not always on my mind. He just doesn't connect with me!
  • Joey – I love you! As fantastic as I thought that performance is, I don't think you're going to be around next week with that performance. I'm truly going to miss you. I hope that I get to see you again and that you really do have a career in the business. I would pay to see you live in cabaret!

For the first time in forever, my top performer tonight was Nick. I also loved Clark and Tyanna.
With Joey gone, I think next week might see Rayvon and Quentin in the bottom two.

I don't know about you, but thank goodness I record the show so that I can hit the fast forward button. 2 hours is way too long on these intermediate countdown shows. The blessing about tonight's show? The songs were truly American Classics and I enjoyed every single song!
Just be glad that you can't hear me singing along on the Dis!

Princessinoz I don't know if it's on iTunes or what not where you live but Clark has two original eps on there.

Yes to iTunes and yes to Clark Beckham being listed for sale (10 listings). I tried to change country on iTunes and I *think* what's listed on the Australian side is the same for the US side of iTunes listing as well. Thanks. :thumbsup2

You are right, Kanye's arrogance is about a number of things. And when Quentin first spoke up, I thought the same thing. But when he explained himself I saw it differently. Two of the judges and Ryan did also, you can hear them helping him explain. To be fair, h3 never said anyone's talent is whack, just the going home part.

I don't believe he was saying someone else should go home. I think he was just upset one of them was going home.

I do think it may come back to bite him. If the show was truly about talent that won't happen but thats not completely what it is. But you know, too many times the wrong person really does go home. Daughtrey and Adam come to mind. Judges themselves have been upset over outcomes. But thats not just on AI of course. Simon Cowell has been upset on AI and on the other shows he has done. A judge on the show from Britian walked off crying because of who went home. People get attached and I am sure its hard to see their attachment leave.

but he had no business walking over to the table....it seemed very threatening at first. I wasn;t sure if he was going to throw a punch, pull a gun or what!

Yikes

Okay going by Itunes....
Clark is just love. Midtempo I'd call it but not slow for sure.
Jax is going to annoy me with at least one song this week.
Nick is good, curious to hear it live. Midtempo as well
Quentin's sounding similar to his other songs, mid tempo.
Rayvon pass the pillow, he sings more slow songs then Clark
Tyanna actually sounds good on this but holy stuck in my head now

I listened to the snippets on iTunes and I liked all but Jax. I know the live versions may not be exactly the same but I really thought everyone else sounded very good.

Enjoy the show tonight. It sounds like it may be a good one but I will have to catch it later and post my comments then. My husband surprised me with tickets to The Wrecking Crew. It is a documentary about the real studio musicians behind a lot of the recordings from the sixties. Apparently the labels preferred to use these same skilled musicians on many of the big songs instead of just relying on the acts themselves.
