American Idol Season 13 Official Thread

I was actually pretty happy with the 10 that America voted into the top 13. The girls are a combination of talented singers and appealingly quirky personalities who can sing if that makes sense. They'll certainly contribute to an interesting mix in the early goings. The boys look less diverse but I think each one will add dimension to the picture as the voting season begins.

The judges' picks were more interesting. I was very happy about Jena and thought she was really the only one of the wildcard candidates who truly gave them a reason to select her. I was also pretty certain that CJ would make it in based on the fact that pretty much every other male is a WGWG so, on the surface at least, he brings a bit of diversity to the mix.

On the other hand, the selection of Kristin just has me shaking my head. Her performance tonight hurt my ears and Keith basically told her she was off-key the entire song. I really hope she sounded better in the theatre. Personally, I would have selected Spencer over Kristin but because America had already chosen to put through 5 WGWG with their votes, he needed to kill his wildcard performance in order for the judges to justify adding another one to the mix. And while I didn't hate his performance, he didn't do enough to force the judges to select him.

2 bad song choices in a row sunk Spencer. He still should have beaten out Kristen though. Why they chose her to sing again anyway is anyone's guess.

In the end though, nobody went home that I'll miss.

I'm befuddled over many of these, I sure hope some of them change my mind. Right now all I see is strange girls and MK, Caleb and a bunch of doughy guys. Ugh...

Well as long as we have kimmar we'll have some "entertainment"...

My son was in the next room and screamed out "send the whole BUNCH home"... I tend to agree.

Who knows? The Facebook crowd is LIVID but it doesn't take much to tick them off. I don't think AI pays much attention to social media and that's a big mistake, they need to get an idea of what the masses are looking for. It's a better criteria than just the numbers or the reviews. They did pay attention when it came to the format and the judges but the format took a dive when they started bussing people off and leaving good people on the stage while showcasing so so singers. There were better singers in the auditions!! Heck, there are better singers in my bathroom... but I digress...

They definitely cut some better songs especially in the girls. My guess is they felt like some of the girls may have been threat or did opposite of last year. Weak girls to favor the guys. Where as you have what three country type guys in the top 13, one rocker type and two singer/songwriter types in the guys.

I don't know if it was a joke but one of the complainers mentioned that he would have brought diversity because part of his heritage is Asian (Thai). I would never get that from looking at him. Maybe Hispanic but he doesn't look Asian.

Yes, there's a lot of Spencer whiners and the Spencer haters, too. He would've been another Tim Urban, a subject of what I call "pretty prejudice". The "you only like him because he's cute" and "I don't think he's all that cute" crowd will be fighting the entire time he's up there.

What I will NEVER get is KOC...WTH???

The whole Asian thing brings back memories of all of the rabid Philipine supporters of Jessica Sanchez. I know they are not the same countries but there appears to be a need for maybe a Pacific Basin idol show.
