American Idol Season 10: Official Thread!!

I bet they moved it to avoid messing with Glee.
Partially. However, even more than that, they moved AI because of the vacuum created by CBS' move of Survivor to Wednesday. Thursday is the most lucrative night of television. Even though more people watch television on Sunday night, Thursday is not only #2, but advertisers will pay a big premium for Thursday over Sunday, because it is right before the weekend, when people generally go shopping and entertain themselves. Fox saw an opportunity to move in on all that money CBS left sitting on the table. AI stands to make a lot more money, even with lower ratings, by this move to Thursday.

Am I the only person who doesn't care for Glee? I have tried watching it but I don't get it. The songs sound like silly karaoke covers to me.

Oh me too. I hated the show when it first started, but the kids watched and it grew on me...just like Idol did way back when. Now I love Glee just like Idol...maybe more.

...ditto!

Yup, it's basically just you. :)

They're not. Very often, the vocal performances exceed the originals in several ways. These aren't hacks, or amateurs (or wannabees, like on AI) - the leads of the show (at least) are exceedingly talented vocalists, and the program has exceedingly high production values, often far in excess of that which the original recordings of the songs could benefit from.

I know there aren't "theme" weeks anymore. But I would find a GLEE week hysterical! they could have the cast and Ryan Murphy be their mentors and have to chose a song that has aired on the show!

....:scratchin:idea: a cover of a cover....that's so crazy, it might just work!

I would watch AI any night of the week. I do admit last year was kind of boring and not too excited about the winner but this year with Steven Tyler and JLo it has been great. I love them both and they have added some much to the show. I like Ellen but not on AI. It wasn't a good fit. The two new judges were made to be there. Also, I did like Glee last year but this year it just doesn't do it for me. Probably why they are bringing on guest stars to make it more interesting.

I am also a huge fan of GLEE! I can't decide which show my family enjoys watching more... AI or Glee.

and tonight would be a REALLY good night to park it and watch 2 hours !

I was thinking the same thing last night, in fact I thought it was on because Tuesday has always been "Idol night".
LOL, I have to get used to the wednesday/thursday thing.

'Idol’ Producers To Issue Apology for Steven Tyler’s ‘Outrageous’ Behavior

After much chatter about Steven Tyler‘s loose lips and wandering eyes on “American Idol,” Ryan exclusively confirmed on his radio show Wednesday that producers plan to issue an apology to viewers.

“There’s a black card that starts the show tonight,” Ryan explained of the episode featuring auditions in Austin, TX. “It starts with, ‘American Idol would like to apologize for last week’s outrageous behavior by Steven Tyler…’”

What the rest of the apology says, we’ll find out tonight, but Ryan insisted viewers watch the entire hour because, “it will all add up and make sense.”

When asked by co-host Ellen K. if Tyler would keep his job, Ryan exclaimed, “I hope so!”

Outrageous behavior from a Rock Star? No way! Too bad they are toning him down even more. I get that its a 'family' show but I don't think he has done or said anything worse that the crap that is on other shows. Oh well, at least I get to see him, thats enough for me.

So is the apology for something we already saw or something that will air tonight? Steven is SO flipping funny I hope they don't squash his personality.

I agree...

When you ask Tyler onto your show, you know what you are getting. It's not like he pretends to be something different and then acted like this on the show. They knew his personality... so it seems dumb to me for them to "apologize" for it.

I am personally glad that he isn't toning it down. If he did, he would be a fake.

I doubt that they are apologizing because they believe that there is something to apologize for, but rather they are apologizing because apologizing is better than not apologizing. The nature of the American audience is such that placating certain quarters with apologies and warnings and such is a small price to pay for presenting what should be presented.
