American Idol, is it just me

or does the background singers seem louder than normal? When they sing,I can barely hear the voices of the AI contestants.

Yes, you can hardly hear them singing sometimes.
Especially with one each of Rueben and Kimberly's songs tonight.
It's too bad because it drowns out there voices.

Sometimes I think it throws them off as well because all of a sudden they'll be off key and looking rather confused.

I thought the background vocals ruined Kimberly's songs. They weren't my favorites to begin with but sometimes she sounded out of tune due to the backgrounds.

It did seem unusually loud tonight. And distracting in some parts. The only place it worked was with Clay's voice, probably because he has the strongest voice of the 4 and can drown out the backup voices.

I agree about Kimberly tonight.

And I actually VOTED for the first time tonight. CLAY!!!

I thought they were done with themes. I really do not care for the Bee Gees. Don't hold that against me, Judi!

I have heard that, too. I have also heard that it is no longer true, since she started working with tamara Moskvina (sp?) as a coach.

I like the BeeGees, but hated most of the songs done tonight. They just didn't fit. I felt so bad for Kim and to a lesser extent, Clay. I just don't think they were comfortable with the song choices. I voted for the first time tonight too.

LOVED Clay again tonight - he's a great entertainer (if people laughed at Grease - hey - they were entertained!)

I was hoping Kim would do "Run to Me" or another song she could belt out. Bad choices for her, after she had a few stunning weeks.

Ruben is Ruben - smooth, wonderful voice, but boring performance.

Josh - Jive Talking didn't do anything for me. I thought it took guts for him to do the same song as Clay, and he did a good job.

If all goes as it has been so far, Josh should go, since Kim's the one who had the bad week.

And yes, the background vocals were way too loud - I don't know what the sound engineer was thinking...

I think that Kimberly singing ruined Kimberly's songs....I still don't like her and really hope her and Josh are in the bottom two.

Clay sang awesome the first song. I felt a little embarrassed for him trying to dance the second song, and had to laugh.

Ruben did good also. I forgot to vote though!

I didn't really notice the background vocals being over the top--I had the Bose entertainment system on and didn't catch it. Admittedly, I was more than a bit distracted with family duties going on around me. I had taped the program and caught the last 1/2 live. I'll have to watch the entire program through again and see if I notice.

Anyway, Kimberly was definitely the weak link last night. My husband--a recent convert to the program--said she can say Good-Night! He's the singer/musician in the family.

Ruben--standard Studdard performance. I don't get "Brilliant" though--good yes. . .over the top "Brilliant", .

Josh--liked it. Jive Talkin' was a bit lame, but then again--it's a pretty lame song. His second performance was good though and doing the same song as Clay took real guts! It was a completely different performance from Clay's though and I enjoyed it.

Clay--wonderful initial performance. He never ceases to impress. Grease, while not my favorite song, was done well and I found it kind of fun and frivolous. A bit of entertainment in a bunch of otherwise soulful, serious themed ballads. Guess you could say the same thing about Jive Talkin' and Josh--Clay just did his "fun & frivolity" better.

Great show though. I'm looking for Josh & Kim in the bottom with Kim gone.

It seemed louder yesterday than ever before and we all noticed it!

I loved Clay for both songs...Grease is a hard song to sing!

But I wish he wouldn't beg so much at the end for votes...but I still love him regardless!

i just posted that on a diffent thread, but yes,background vocals too loud....i think kim was bad last night but i dont think the producers will let that happen,it might be a big surprise tonight and ruben might be the one to go.....

I thought Josh rebounded greatly last night - over last week. I still feel he'll be in the bottom two, along with Kimberly. She did not impress me at all last night, and I'm hoping she's the one to go.

Even though I have a soft spot in my heart for Josh, and Rueben is such a sweetie, I believe Clay should win it.
