American Horror Story: Hotel

I am behind in the show. I just started watching 'Coven' and haven't really had time to binge watch it.
I still watched last night since they're different stories. I'm not sure how I felt. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it.

This is a timely topic for me, I just DVR'd my first ever episode from the premier last night (on the recommendation of a buddy.) Sooo....should I bother to watch it? I'd have no other seasons to compare it to.

I just watched the first episode. It's not really grabbing my attention. I'll give it one more shot before writing it off. I'm not finding the characters interesting. The sets are gorgeous, but if its just going to be about a hotel full of vampires, I don't think I'll make it through the season. I know AHS usually has about 200 story lines going at once, so maybe something interesting will pop up.

Loved season 1, enjoyed Coven until the last few episodes, tolerated the others. Gave this one about half an hour and will not be wasting my time. Ugh. Disgusting. Lost me as a fan.

Recorded last night but haven't watched.
Still working my way through Freak Show.

I watched and think the running theme for hotel is addiction. Iris was addicted to her son who was addicted to drugs. Hypodermic Sally is an addict pushed out the window by Iris. The police officer was addicted to work and completely missed his son being taken from the carousel. The one scene many people thought was so horrific I theorize that was "addiction" terrorizing that one man. Again, the attack stopped when he said he loved Sally because theoretically it takes love and will power to stop using drugs. The part I haven't strung together were the two tourist girls obviously they were to feed the Countess's addiction but didn't seem to have their own like everyone else.

I liked Coven but last season seemed to reach for the shock factor way too often for my taste. I saw some of that in this season's first episode too.

A little shock is fine but a hotel should be creepy too and creepiness comes from at least a little subtlety. I hope that they don't lose sight of that.

I'm about an hour into the episode and I am not liking it at all. I guess Entertainment Weekly was right when they said this season was going to be the most depraved. I don't mind a little depravity but shock value just for the sake of shock value really turns me off, and this premiere has been nonstop. Usually underneath all of the depravity of other AHS seasons there is actually a good show, but I'm not seeing that with this one, just sick for the sake of it. I'll keep watching to see if it gets better but I think this time they might have gone too far.

To continue your theory, during the blender scene, she was telling the girls that she found all of the pills in their luggage and that they needed a detox, that's why she was making the concoction for them to drink.

I get it, I just wish they could have found another way to do it. That scene was horrible.

So far I am not a fan. They're definitely going for the shock value. I hope there will be actual content besides just soft core porn.

I'll give it a fair chance though.

I liked some of it, but yes, Ryan seems to just go for as much shock value as possible, to see how far he can push it and still get it on the air. And he seems like they let him push it farther and farther every season. The scene being discussed was awful! And I could have done with a less graphic scene with the couple from the park.
I did like the how they ended it, cutting it after that phrase in the song.
I also missed Evan Peters and Finn Wittrock, who weren't on yet.
Question, the little monster that the detective saw when he woke up, was actually his son correct? She called him by that name in the game room?
It's very stylish and the hotel is beautiful, I will say that much for it.

I have enjoyed every season except Coven. I think I am going to like this one (think being the key word!) Will keep watching. I love stories about hotels (The Shining, 1408 etc). I agree that the bloodlust and sex was ramped up immensely. Watched a lot of scenes with my mouth hanging open lol!i'm not easily shocked but THAT scene disturbed me too.

As long as everyone else has already mentioned, I will add...
Loved the first season, loved Asylum even more. Detested Coven, couldn't wait for it to end, and almost quit watching. I liked Freak Show, some parts more than others, I wish Twisty would have stayed a lot longer.
We shall see where this season ends up in my list. I was so very excited for it, but if he keeps up the over the top shock, I am not sure I will love this one either.
I will also say, after the explicit scene, and Lady Gaga was clothed again, I was actually really impressed with her.

After all that was in the first episode, I think it will be hard to keep up that momentum.

However, in scenes from future episodes, did anyone else note Twisty the Clown? (yes, I think they really missed the boat last season by not developing his storyline -- I thought he was the scariest part of the show!)

I did see a clown, I wasn't sure if it was Twisty. I was too busy looking for Evan Peters, who I never did see, even in the previews :-(. I just wanted a glimpse :-)

Watched it and am willing to give it a shot, I do agree that addiction will be the main theme this year. Murder House was my favorite season also..speaking of that did anyone recognize who the realtor was? ;) Love how they do try to tie into the other seasons with small things here and there.

I was also looking for Evan and Finn...I think they make an appearance in episode 2.
