My daughter would like to have an American Girl Doll. :cutie: She wants one of the “My American Girls” that she can create to look like her. I saw that QVC will have the AG dolls on this Saturday, but they will not offer these dolls. Will AG put out any sort of discount closer to Christmas? If so, what is their norm? I figure it is just free shipping. How far in advance would I have to purchase a doll, in order to receive it by Christmas?

Do you know of any EBay sellers who make clothes that do not cost an arm and a leg?

Would anyone out there like to sell me their clothes that their daughter no longer plays with? (Moderator, if I am not allowed to ask that, please delete the comment) :thumbsup2

This will be our first AG doll :woohoo:

In the past AG has offered free shipping in the fall, but there's nothing out right now. Check out the forums at www.agplaythings.com, they usually post any discount codes as they come out.

Also check out the Sale section on the AG website. The "Spotlight Sales" change weekly, and often there are several outfits on sale there.

A lot of people also report that the Target "Our Generation" stuff works with AG dolls. (I haven't bought any of it personally, so can't say 100%.) The fit of the clothes can be iffy, but the large accessories are supposedly really good (the horse, bathtub, etc) and a lot cheaper than similar items from AG.

Check out Dollie & Me clothes if you think your daughter wants an outfit to match her dolls. They are available at Sears and Kohls. The quality is good, and you can get a dress for your girl and her doll for about the price of just one AG doll outfit.

I've never seen any discounts on the dolls but I know they occasionally do free shipping. I love the Our Generation accessories from Target but find that the outfits are a bit snug on the AG dolls, we even have the princess dresses for the My Disney Girl and those are snug as well. But the accessories are great at Target, my daughter has quite a few things and is getting more for Christmas, you can't beat the prices!

I got a pretty good package deal on Julie the year she came out, I think I got a outfit free. Not usually many discounts so I would jump at the free shipping. If you watch the sales at AG you can get some clothes that don't cost too much. DD never liked the Our Generation clothes, but we had quite a bit. She did like the bed, bean bag chair and that sort of thing from Target.

I think the dolls themselves are rarely if ever discounted.

The clothes at Target are less expensive, but they are also lower quality than AG brand, at least the items we've bought. They're still great, just don't expect them to be as good as AG. The accessories and furniture are great. We just bought the Target storage chest and saved a ton over AG's similar products! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for your help!

The Dollie and Me clothes are really cute. Thank you for the suggestion.

I will have to check out the our generation things at Target.

Kmart had a whole wall of matching girl/doll dress sets when I was there a few weeks ago for around $20-25. I keep meaning to swing by and see if any had gone on sale or clearance.

American Girl dolls are never discounted-at least not in the 9 years I've been buying them! You usually can get a code for free shipping around the holidays. In order to have the doll by Christmas I would order a couple weeks ahead at least. The Am Girl website will tell you as it gets closer to Christmas what the last days are to order and get the items by Dec 24 depending on your shipping method.

The clothing is never on sale either, ecept for the spotlight sale items they have every month. It's usually always something we have or items my DD doesn't want though. I've never lucked out with them.

I have never used clothing other American Girl, so I can't comment on that. I do know that Target sells dolls the same size as American Girl, so I imagine that they would fit.

If you check the sales on the site you sometimes can get good deals. I had found a cute outfit a month or so ago for 10 down from 30! they do have stuff on the spotlight sales and things like that. the past few years they have done a good cyber monday sale. I remember they had some really good prices for that!

Is the "spotlight" sale different than the "sale" tab?

Do you remember what they offered on cyber Monday?

I was in the QVC Store in West Chester Pa today and they had the 8 dolls that they had on air and online there. They are no longer available online, not sure if you called them directly. They had Julie, Lanie, Kaya, Josefina, Kit, Rebecca, Ruthie, Ivy. I would be happy to pick up the dolls and ship them to you ( if they still have them in stock). All of the dolls come as package deals that are cheaper than buying them individually at the AG store.
These will probably not last long!

Welcome to the world of an American Girl Doll Mom. Be aware that you are not going to be satisfied with any other dolls after this :)

The target Our Generation accessories are great, and the clothes do work, although a bit snug, and not nearly as well made as the AG ones. You can often find outfits on Ebay and if you surf the web, you can find pages of people who make clothing for the dolls. A friend of mine found a pattern for Felicity, and she has made my daughter a couple of outfits. We currently have Felicity, Elizabeth, and Laney...and my DD is asking for one of the like her ones for Christmas this year...I am just trying to figure out how to do it when they dont have her combination in looks!

I have read that Toys R Us has some stuff too, but haven't got over there to check it out yet.

Agree with this poster, that this brand is awesome and so cute. My daughter got a set from sears from grammy and she loves it! :goodvibes cheaper than AG:lovestruc

We went to a craft show in our area yesterday and got a cute outfit (skirt, top, jacket, hair bow) for around $20 - check out local craft shows! :thumbsup2

Anyone know where to get either a bunch of doll stands or something similar? How do you store the dolls and all the accessories so they aren't on the floor? :confused3

My graddaughter will be 6 in Jan and I have been waiting and waiting for her to discover AG...and she has!!! I bought the QVC Julie with the bike and extra outfit when they had it for 3 easy payments. It is beautiful. I found on ebay some people who sell AG clothing they must find at an AG outlet. Wish I lived near there. We went to the AG store in NYC and it is so beautiful. BIG money there...so many people buying and buying lots of stuff. It is just so nice. I am going to see how my granddaughter does with her doll before I buy her the furniture etc. I think that she will probably have friends who have AG soon. That will be the big thing the if her friends have them! Love having a granddaughter!!!
