American Girl Dolls

I    American Girls! I discovered the books at the library when I was 8 years old and have been hooked ever since! I got my Samantha on my 9th birthday and next week I'll be getting Elizabeth (the newest one, Felicity's friend) for my 24th birthday. :) I also have Kit, Josefina, Nellie, Felicity, and an AG of Today. My collection is my pride and joy, and my dolls probably have as much clothes as I do if not more. Samantha is still my favorite.

I had a Samantha themed birthday party when I was 10.

My youngest daughter 7 wants Marisol for Christmas. My oldest almost 9 has said she has outgrown them. I think they are cute.

:goodvibes My DD and niece have been very fortunate. Each birthday they received an AG doll with the book series from my Mom.They have the complete series. The girls fell in love with the stories and dolls.DD is now 12 and she still pulls them out from time to time if a friend is over and is an AG lover.I love how they learn history, learn about living in different eras.Around Thanksgiving they are coming out with another American Girl movie Felicity. You may remember last year was Samantha on WB.I just wish they had similar books geared towards boys.
Also a GREAT book is the "care and keeping of you" from AG.It is the best book to explain life's changes on girls.Everything from shaving to menstrual cycles.Everything gives just enough information that a girl 10 and up would need.I have recomended it to every Mom of a daughter. And they all thank me.

Each of my daughters has the girl of today that looks like them, my oldest also has Samantha and Bitty Baby, and my youngest has Kit and Bitty Baby.

I am embarassed to admit that we have a 5 foot tall hand-painted armoire filled with pretty much every outfit you can think of. We also have all of the books and a lot of the furniture and accessories. My oldest is now 16 and hasn't played with them for years, but my 9 year old still plays with all of it.

We are fortunte enough to be able to visit AG Place in Chicago quite often since we live fairly close. Definitely saves on the shipping costs if nothi,g else.

I got my daughter the Mini Molly doll.

She wants Molly, but she also really wants baby Annabell from Zapf Creations. I compromised. She will get Annabell, and a Molly Mini.

Brittany has Hallie & Nellie. Plus lots of clothes, etc. We love going to the store on 5th Avenue. :cloud9:

Your daughter will LOVE this place! My DD6 (she was there at the age of 4 and 5) was in heaven. She loved the store, could have spent the entire day there! In the cafe for lunch and afternoon tea, she felt like such a princess....they really treat the little girls great there! Make sure your daughters bring their dolls with them to eat in the cafe...they have a seat and place setting for each doll at the table!!! It is so darn cute.
she is upset because we are going the Rockettes in November...and I couldn't get lunch reservations there again this year..... oh well, there is always next time!!

I just spent the weekend in Chicago with my Dsis, Dniece Samantha, and her cousin and her mother for Samantha's birthday at the American Girl Place and it was so nice! I just am thankful that I have a boy!!

For the entire 4 hour trip up to the city, Dniece and her cousin had their dolls, Samantha (naturally) and Kirsten riding shotgun...they even had to watch the Samantha movie with the girls. It really was too cute!

My Dsis had made reservations for a birthday dinner party at the AGP and the girls (all of us) really enjoyed it! Dniece received a button as birthday girl, napkin rings were hair scrunchies to keep, the birthday cake was so pretty...all white with the hot pink ribbon frosting just like a gift box and tasty, too! Each person at the party received a nice gift bag containing a lip gloss, pen, notepad shaped like an AGP tshirt, key chain/notepad, stickers, and another hair scrunchie. The girls went through every nook and cranny of the store practically...need to get their dolls hair done, but didn't have time, so the bought the hair care kits. Between the two girls they spent almost $300 on accessories for their dolls...they both have an AG doll and Bitty baby each and want to add more to their collection.

I overheard a couple of dads talking while waiting for the girls to check out who said, they (AGP) had the marketing down for the stores....located all the cashier stands at the back of the store (on each floor) so you had to wade trough the entire place to get there. I said, "Heck, even Sam Walton didn't figure out that one..."

I assume the one in NY is the same as Chicago, where they had a theater to see the AG productions (live shows), a portrait studio, all the merchandise you can imagine for the dolls (AG, itty bitty, hopalong somethings, and the one you chose the eye, hair and skin color), clothing for the young ladies to match their dolls, a hair styling salon for the dolls, and a doll hospital where they repair injured dolls.

Like I said, after spending several hours in the AGP this weekend, I was so thankful I had a son, cause I could see how the dolls could practically bankrupt a parent. But, IF I did have a daughter I'd have to buy her Molly...I just think she's so spunky! I also like Nellie after seeing the Samantha movie on the road to Chicago...fiesty little girl.

DD10 loves her AG dolls. Grandma feeds her habit. She has Molly, Kailey, Kit, one other big one that I can't remember the name and then both sets of bitty twins, the blonde and brown haired ones. She hasn't played with them as much lately, but she is busy playing outside. She might be out growing them. Who knows.

DD did this for her 7th bday- and until her 8th (at WDW) it's all she could talk about -s he was in heaven!! She wants to go back next tiem we take her to NY -

She has Samantha, Kit, Kirsten and one of today - her older sister, now 17, has Molly, Samantha, Felicity, Kirsten and one of today-she played with them for years. Even now, while she doesn't play with them, she has them on a shelf in her room and they are one of the few items she won't give to younger daugher and wants to keep. (which is great!) She also had just as much fun at AG Place, btw - just looking at everything, going to the show, having brunch. They also went to a hairstyling seminar - they both enjoyed it alot!

Younger dd - favorite thing is to dress in matching outfits with her doll. it's kind of sad b/c the smallest size is 7, and they are still big on her (ok, they fall off. :rotfl: ) but she's just so happy in those matching outfits and thinks she's very cool. LOL

I would say for those on the fence about the dolls, they've been worth every penny to me. Very wholesome, some educational value, high quality and long play life - you get your money's worth if your daughter plays with it for 4-6 years.

Oh - my dd-7 also has the American Girl Club - she loves it! It's a safe place for her to go online (makes her feel like she's 17, too. :rotfl: ) She can make friends and email, play games, earn points for free stuff. Email - you can set it so that a parent approves all incoming and outgoing messages (which is how we have it set) and it's anonymous - so very safe.

DD8 has Molly. We went to the NYC AG store in July and had the birthday lunch in the cafe and then Molly had her hair done in the salon. It was a great experience!

The amount of detail in the doll accessories is amazing.

After reviewing the summer catalogue--my girls decided they both want biddy babies b/c they want the swim suit.

I hate to get them the exact same thing--anyone with multiple girls that this has been an issue? What do you do?

Not exactly the same issue because our girls are 9 years apart. LOL but they have some of the same dolls. (including bitty baby! LOL) Our older daughter still keeps her American Girl dolls - so it's nice that they each have their own, even though we did have to buy the same doll twice. I debated it at first (for about 10 seconds. LOL) then saw how much older dd wanted to keep hers. So they each have their own collection.

I'm so glad all your girls enjoyed the AG store so much. Yes the NYC AG store must be the same as the Chicago store, they have a cafe, play, hair styling for dolls etc.

I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one willing to spend all this money on dolls (although I am so glad that the youngest is a boy!). My friend think I'm crazy. Of course they think we're crazy for going to Disney every year so - oh well.

We're just venturing into the AG dolls but even I was drooling over all the accessories.
