Being a foodie, I can't help but be disappointed by the sad offerings at Epcot's American pavilion.
:confused3 Can't they do better than burgers, hotdogs, turkey legs, funnel cakes or chicken strips?

I'd love to see an awesome restaurant in Epcot, that would make us American food lovers proud, like the California Grill. Even the MK has the Liberty Tree Tavern, if you are looking for good old American meat & potatoes. Even a great barbeque restaurant would be nice.

Anybody have any good ideas for a really good representation of American food?
Canada has the steakhouse, Coral Reef has the seafood.
Maybe a menu with selections from all over America would be nice. ::yes::

i have often thought of a themed "truck stop" with comfort foods.

I pity the fool who doesn't like funnel cake! Seriously though, you have a really good point!

Oh, I'm not saying they should take away the funnel cake! I'm just saying that they should have some fancy-schmancy American food, too!;)

That would be fun! :goodvibes
Meatloaf, pot pie, fried chicken?
Wait a second, that's the 50's Prime Time Cafe at DHS (MGM)!

What about an across America restaurant - NE Clam Chowder, Peach Cobbler, BBQ, Southwest, Louisianna Creole, Avacado Salads and sandwhiches, salmon. I see big old American cars (like Sci-Fi) with maps on the walls and ceilings, car license plates and state flags. Or little themed rooms - The Northeast, the South, the Southwest, west and Middle American rooms. Each decorated to be from those areas. There are tons of things. :)

Now you're talkin'!!!

It would have to have a great bar with a bartender in a tux making martinis. Maybe with a panorama of NYC behind him!

It may be because most of the rest of the restaurants in WDW are American, so why eat American in the World Showcase? I think it also serves as a nice central location for picky eaters stuck in an area full of internation cuisine.

Good ideas though!

I'm kinda thinking for the foreign visitors?
They should keep the counter service for burgers & hotdogs, though!

I agree that there should be better food options at the American Pavilion --- but don't take away those funnel cakes! :teeth: I haven't had one is so long but I think that is going on my "must do" list for next month.

Also, how many WDW visitors may not get the chance to try authentic creole from Louisianna or Southwest cuisine. We may get BBQ in NY but I can assure you it is different than what may be served in Texas. I would love a place that researches the food and I could try authentic dishes from around the country.

To fit the colonial theme, you'd have to feature something similar to LTT. However, if you wanted to go with true colonial era food, most folks wouldn't like it (mutton, deer, wild turkey, buffalo, roasted or in a variety of soups, stews, sausages or pies). :scared:

How about American favorites of today, that aren't already done (or aren't done well) at WDW?

What about an upscale food court type situation themed after so many of our fantastic city markets? There could be different areas for different parts of the country so it would be easy to sample many different things.

That way they could also hire lots of different cooks/chefs who specialized in their regional cuisine. Instead of a restaurant where basically one team would have to create many different types of food.

The Colonial era food sounds fascinating to me, but I guess they have to appeal to a wide range of people, so I doubt WDW would take on the unusual meats.

I really like the regional cuisine concept. It seems like that would be a nice menu that would appeal to most diners.

I noticed the counter service place in the USA in EPCOT added a BBQ sandwich last time I went.It was pretty decent, not amazing but at least I was glad to see a new offering there after they changed the chicken strips.

I have to agree that the what the American Pavilion sells is pretty sad over all. How about good regional food, Chicago deep dish pizza, Philly cheesesteaks, Cajun food, some fish dish from San Francisco, there are lots of good regional things that even us Americans would love to try.
They also need to get rid of the junk they try to sell in the regular shop. Compared to the products of the other nations we look like a low end flea market. Years ago they had uniquely American musical instruments, autographs, tapes of traditional music and other items that you wouldnt classivy as junk.

It's not as interesting as the rest of the world showcase, but I think they planned it that way. When little 5yro Johnny starts throwing a tantrum cause he wants lunch NOW not in 25 minutes while we walk back to the Land or the Electric Umbrella, I don't think he wants couscous or bratwurst. It is sad that the rest of the world showcase food gets dumbed down a bit to accommodate plain taste buds, but they need to offer something even blander for those who are really not adventurous.
