Hi has anyone used this yet .. seems way easier then travelers checks and has no intrest like a Credit card and if you lose it its not from your bank account like a debit card ?? just wondering thinking about trying it for our trip in late Oct/early Nov.. Thanks Michelle

bigsis1970 - I just posted this same topic on the Tips section. Sorry, I'm not quite sure how to post that link in here yet. I think it's still on the first page of the Tips board.

I thought it sounded okay, but $15 just for the card!!! I guess I'd rather have the $15 for an extra souvenir and just use my M/C debit card.

Haev a great time on your trip!

I agree with you. According to their website, there is a fee of $14.95 for the insurance. And, if you need cash, there's an additional fee of $2.50 for each use. Yikes!

Like I said before, I've decided to get AAA travelers checks. They're free with your membership. And, no fees!

Thanks - I think if i were to get it , it would be to use like a credit card just avoiding the interest .. ( i would not use for an ATM at 2.50 per time nor do i ever use my regular debit in DW -its a small hometown back so i have to pay fees) i would be carrying some cash but didn't want goobs of it hanging around .. and I don't have AAA so i can't get the checks for free ( i think if you get them from your bank you still have to pay something ) But Thanks again for the advise and i did find the other link .. Michelle

I think I'll just stick to the traveler's checks and a credit card. Traveler's checks at my credit union are free and with a credit card if it gets stolen I can file a report. It's the same thing as carrying a regular crdedit card without having to pay the $15 fee it seems.

Just an FYI:

If you bank at WellsFargo and your workplace does, also, you CAN get free Travelers' Cheques. First you need to sign up for the account, all I had to do was go into WF, tell them the name of my workplace, and that I would like to get my account updated to show that I had a "company" account or something like that... They should be familiar with it. It gets me free Travelers' Cheques AND interest accrues on my checking account. It is a nice change to see pennies going in instead of coming out!

Check it out,

Be sure to read the fine print on these. THey have some very strange restrictions on them. For instance, on our trip (5 more days!) we're taking a cruise afterwards and the fine print on these specifically states that you can't use them on a cruise. What's up with that? That's just one example.

Here's their list of limitations:
