American Express Gift Checks

My mother received a Am Ex gift check for a gift from a coworker. Also, I saw a lady in line in front of me at American Eagle use one to pay for her purchase. I am not really familiar with these. I was thinking about giving these to my niece and nephew for Christmas, since I have to send them the gift through the mail. I thought this would offer some protection??? Anyway, does it cost a fee to get them? Does it cost a fee to use them? We have a credit union and we can get traveler's checks free, not sure about the gift checks.

Hi Maggie,

I asked about these at my bank last week, the teller told me that they are $2.50 per card and they are accepted everywhere (just as travelers cheques).

I don't believe places charge anything to use them. I believe I am doing the same for my Nieces & Nephews.
