AA's tickets went up 10.00 for round trips :guilty: Now the price for my family of four is up to 882.80. Does anyone know or seen better airfares from DFW to MCo for May 2005? :moped:

How did you get the prices? From AA? I'd try expedia or cheap tickets... I wish I could tell you more.

You are not in a good market for cheap airfares. Delta is pulling out and the Wright amendment prevents SW from flying from Love Field to Orlando. However, you do have a little time. I would keep watching, but I would not think you will get much below the $200 range.

I would wait and keep checking if I were you. I'm also flying from DFW to MCO in mid-May, but am not buying until about two months before I leave or maybe even later (unless the plane starts filling up). Meanwhile I'm just checking Delta and AA's site every day to get an idea of ticket prices. I'm making a solo trip in May, but am taking my son and GD to WDW Jan 9th-Jan 15th for a Christmas gift. I started checking prices in early Sept, but didn't buy until Nov. 24th. I did check their sites every day though and prices fluctuated from $133.00 to $220.70/person r/t--going down, then up, then down, then up, etc. For both Delta and AA the price usually stayed around $210.70 and then would bounce up or down from there and back again. Unfortunately I missed the $133.00 ticket and even a $167.00 ticket, but did grab three seats on Delta at $176.70 r/t (nonstop). The only reason I bought them in Nov. is because I had found the flight times I wanted and had also been checking the available seats and the return flight was filling up. I'm glad I did, because the next day the prices went back up to $210.90 and since then have only come down to $198.70.

One thing I did notice though during that time. I work night shift (11pm-7am) and it seemed like the tickets would go down after midnight then back up around 8am (which is why I missed the $133.00 tickets-I didn't have my credit card with me at work and they went up by the time I got home). Also the flights seem to go down the most on Wednesday nights. At the time, I mentioned this on another forum and someone said they had heard flights usually go down after midnight on Wednesdays and then back up Thursday by mid-day. I really prefer American, but Delta had the better times, so we're flying Delta in January. For the May trip who knows? Right now Delta isn't showing any nonstop flights from DFW to MCO for May.

I did the same thing for a trip to San Antonio last July and got two tickets that had been averaging around $149.99 for $98.00 apiece r/t. The lady sitting next to us on that flight had paid $176.90 for her seat.

AA has just implemented a $5 per flight ($10 per round trip) price increase. They've tried this a few times before, but have had to back off when none of the other airlines has gone along with them. As a result, there's a chance prices on all RTs will drop by $10 in the next week or so. Still, the observation that DFW is not the best city to get good prices from is correct. At the same time, c. $200 per person to MCO isn't all that bad. I'd hang on a week or two to see if the $10 increase sticks, but if the times are good you might want to book the tix. Otherwise, hold out, shop around and understand that you're taking your chances.

Guess what you were right about the extra 10.00 charge not sticking. I just checked AA's website and the price is back down to 842.80 for 4. But now I really have to wait to book my airfaire because an unexpected expense came up on yesterday. :guilty: but the bright side is at least we're still going! :cool1:

OK, now I feel like a yo-yo. I just check AA's fares and now it is back up to 882.80 for my family of 4. :guilty: What to do, what to do?!?!?!? :earseek:

I booked earlier this week for the first week in Feb and it was 882.00 out of DFW for our family of 4. One connection on the way out and direct flight on the way back. I never could get the 133.00 to pull back for our dates (+ - a day either way).

I checked the fares again today and it's still 882.80 for a family of four. I think I will take aubriee's advice and wait a little longer and hopefully the rates will drop. The flights I want are not half full as of yet. :cool1: :grouphug:

If your dates/times are flexible at all that can help. DS and I both ended up with free tickets, but we had to buy DH's. The pricing for his ticket bounced around depending on which day/time I was looking at. Of course this was complicated tremendously by the fact that most of the flights I wanted were not available with promotional tickets! The flights I originally asked for would have made DH's ticket $240 round trip, but by flying out at 6:40 AM and coming home at 6:55 AM we got the ticket for $210. I don't want to leave the resort at 4:45 AM to go home, but hey! we get to go on a trip we never could have taken otherwise! Good luck!! :cool1:

you will pay more. Sign up for Airtran and get their e mails. This past fall they had a special out of DFW for $59. one way per person. Lately I have seen $79. Some flights are direct and some connect in Atlanta. American could never beat the price of Airtran. Their e mail specials are available to book for a few days only, usually. Sometimes just one day. They are worth a look if you can fly with someone else. If the seats are available, you can upgrade to business class ( like first class) for $59. per direct flight from DFW. That is nice...

Ok, I have checked AA's website today and the tickets are back down to 842.80 for a family of 4. I also signed up at Airtran for specials. I am also checking ITA.com ( a site that list all airlines) on a daily basis. Thanks for your responses! :moped:

I would really consider taking the extra time to go to Austin and flying southwest.

We traveled to disney the 17th-23rd and had a horrible experience with American. We were delayed 25 mins leaving DFW because they had to change a "seat cushin" then it took us over 25 mins to get our luggage once we got to MCO(this was at 12:30am at that). Coming back we were 30 mins delayed taking off because our plane was late arriving. Then we sat on the taxiway for over an hour once we got to DFW waiting on a gate to deboard the plane. We sat there when we saw several gates that would accomadate our plane that were also open. Why they couldn't have given us one of those is beyond me especially when they constantly tell you that gates can change at any time. What really gets me though is the fact that they didn't keep us informed of the situation. We sat there and didn't hear hardly anything from the pilots. To boot our luggage didn't arrive at our final destination with our flight(luckily it arrived on the next flight).

We are approximately two hours from Austin and two and a half hours drive from Dallas(three to three and a half from the airport depending on traffic).

From now on we are going to probably fly SW exclusively.

I have looked at that option also. It's actually a lot more expensive (approximately 400.00) to fly from Austin to Orlando on Southwest and the flights are not what I really want. One of them is not a non-stop. Thanks for the suggestion.

I belong to CITITRAVEL, (we pay a monthly fee, but we use our travel rebates to pay it) and I priced May 2005 out of DFW for our family of 4 at $736.08 nonstop AA. I still check the other sites but I use CT as a guide. I could run your dates for you if you'd like. If you could save $150 it may be worth it.
I agree that we are at a big disadvantage at DfW and after much frustration trying to find decent itineraries and low fares (almost impossible) we gave CT a try.
