I havent flown them in a while until last Thursday. I just wanted to comment that everything is very smooth. From check in to landing, everyone I encountered was very customer orriented. Both my flights (DFW connection) took off earlier then scheduled and luggage was on the belt when I reached Puerto Vallarta. I have nothing but good things to say about American and I just wanted to give everyone an honest opinion :cool1:

BTW, the new Terminal D at DFW, is by far the nicest terminal in North America. The terminal looks like a mall rather then an airport. Also, the new train is very efficent and easy to use!!!

Thanks for the heads up. We are flying out of DFW next month on AA.

That's very good to hear. I haven't flown American in years. But, we are flying them in 17 days also out of DFW.

Thanks so much for the report! :thumbsup2 I have 2 flights on American this summer, going through DFW too. Haven't flown through there since they remodeled. One flight is tight timewise and I was able to search the airport's website and found the layout and the train stops. It said the whole loop was under 10 min. Very reassuring when you have less than an hour to catch a flight in another terminal... :tink:here's hoping we're on time!
I bet Puerto Vallarta was wonderful! :sunny:

I am looking into booking a December trip from DTW to MCO on AA, I will have 2 young kids and I was curious what the in-flight entertainment on these planes are. Also, do you know if I buy and my price goes down (how unlikely) can I get a credit voucher with AA?

Thanks!

Dawn

Me again...I was just on AA and put a hold on some tickets, I was wondering though it says we will be on a McDonnell Douglas Super MD-80 for the flight down - how are these planes? What can I expect for my 4 & 5 year old? What can I bring for them to do? Thanks for any help on this...probably silly questions to most but with this being our first flight I want it to be as great for them as possible...at that age the flight is a "ride" in itself. :~)

Dawn,

Two things. First off, I would really recommend if you have small children flying with any of the airlines inside the Smith Terminal (ALL airlines except Northwest, Delta, Continental) because although the terminal is extremly old, it is very easy to navagate. Americans aircraft do not have any type of in seat entertainment, but they do have DC adaptors (Cigarette style) so you can charge your divice while in flight. All of the MD-80's and 737's have these installed (the only aircraft that fly from DTW) so go to www.seatguru.com to find the seats that have the power ports. American will issue a voucher, but you must pay the change fee (depending on your fare rules between $25 and $100 per ticket). One thing that did suprise me though (I knew that United had started this) was that American is now charging $2 per bag to curbside check. Not a big problem if you are just carrying on luggage, or you are willing to stand in a short line inside the terminal. One last thing for DTW flyers, the Smith Terminal (American's terminal) is directly connected with the Big Blue Deck economy parking, avoiding any type of shuttle usage...Hope this helps

Yes. There is no in-seat video on American's domestic narrow-body aircraft, but some aircraft have in-flight entertainment.

American does not have any in-flight entertainment on their "Super 80" (M80) aircraft. However, American has audio and video installed on the rest of their mainline fleet (not on smaller American Eagle regional jets). So if you're on a 757 or 737-800 (738), there are headphone mini-jacks at every seat and video monitors above the aisle. The video is recycled CBS content, such as 60 Minutes segments, David Letterman segments, and a sitcom. (Longer flights, such as cross-country flights, also have a movie.) There are over a half dozen audio channels. You can bring your own headphones, or you buy earbuds onboard for $2, which you are allowed to keep and reuse on future flights.

The advice about going to SeatGuru is good if you have a portable DVD player or laptop with a cigarette lighter adaptor. Some rows in economy have powerports, and others do not.

Yes. And that $2 per bag fee doesn't include the tip for skycap.

Thats good to hear. Our flight for our upcoming trip is with American. I head some bad things and it is good to hear something good for a change. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the tips...especially on DTW in particular - having never flown before it really does help. I'll probably go ahead and book these tickets and then try not to look (yah right) and see if I miss a deal...:~)

Love to hear more tips for AA or just first time flying in general.

Ok guys, just got back from DTW (on our returning Mexico leg) and everything went smooth as can be. My connecting flight in DFW took off 5 minutes before secduled and got me in to Detroit around 12:30 am. An update to my last review, I just booked another flight (to Ft Myers in November) with American connecting in Miami. Rates are crazy cheap out of DTW at that time, but i havent looked at Orlando either.... Yes, the Smith Terminal at DTW is horribly old . Both segments, the terminal was filthy and smells like a dirty foot. They (the airport) seems to have let the maintanince go seeing the terminal will be demolished in another 14 mths or so...
