I can fly either airline at the same times and for the same money. Any preference between the two airlines? I would have to pay for seats on Airtran, but I think American assigns seats when you book from the looks of it, and you don't pay extra. I think I am leaning toward American for that reason, but don't know anything else about the two airlines. Do either offer snacks for no fee? Any opinions out there??????????:goodvibes

Both airlines get the job accomplished. I would look at the times that they fly to and from your city and make the decision accordingly.

What is your city pair?

AirTran would be my choice. If they change flight times even just a few minutes after you book, they give you a chance to rebook another flight of your choice at a different time. Also, we upgrade to business class most of the time on Airtran when we check in. That means first class service for not much more than the cost of coach.

It's not that much difference but, Air Tran charges $20.00 for the first checked bag, whereas American Airlines charges $25.00. Air Tran also allows a bigger carry on. I usually fly whichever is cheaper, but really prefer Air Tran because of their liberal policies. If they change the flight time by even a few minutes, they allow you to move to another flight for free (even on a different day) or even get a refund. If the price of your flight goes down, you can call and they'll give you a credit that you can use later for either luggage fees or for another flight. Both serve a little snack (usually soda or juice and then pretzels or biscotti).
